Saturn Girl...

Over the years, I have made it well-known that I could not stand the character of Saturn Girl.

All the comments of "shameless hussy" and "panel hog" were all echoed in sentiment by me. I even killed her off-panel (!) in Mysterious Ways, the fanfic I wrote years ago.

But that has all changed. For some reason, I fell in love with her in Legion #1. I don't know how Paul did it this time, but I actually felt for Imra for the first time ever.

Now THAT is good writing.

Love live Saturn Girl!

FINALLY.

Now you can go back and reread every Legionnaire-expelling, medallion-making, comatose teammate-molesting, Proty-boinking, Brainy-hugging panel she hogged with joy!!

IMRA IS LOVE.

Well, to be fair, it was GARTH she boinked. WIth Proty's life essence animating his dead corpse.

That sounds better, right...?

And it was cool how Imra boinked Ultra Boy telepathically to keep him from going kookoo back during LEGION LOST.

And let's not forget about the other time she was lost and boinked Timber Wolf!

She was always such a paragon of virtue. But no matter, I love her now and won't be swayed...

By the way, I LOVE that word!

BOINK!

Just to be clear, I am in no way trying to dissuade your newfound love for Imra, just showing you how much fun she's been all along!

P.S.-

I've always thought Imra was ten kinds of fabulous. I'm kinda' glad I wasn't reading during the Garth-is-Proty era, though. I probably would've thrown the comic across the room and not spoken to anyone for a month. I'll accept a certain level of "WTF?!11" in my cheezy sci-fi superhero plots, but that was just too damn much.

Me, I thought it kinda sent a powerful message about one or all of the following: a person's ability to fool themselves, a person's ability to ignore the truth, a person's ability to hide the truth from the public because things are now the way she previously secretly wished they were.

See, Imra loved Garth... but the original Garth was a hothead and a dangerous choice at best for a love interest.

Then along came Proty reanimating Garth's dead body with his... "e-word" and whatnot.

So, Imra got the body she craved with a sweeter disposition that was now an all-around excellent choice for a love interest.

For me, the whole scenario completely humanized our miss Imra Ardeen Ranzz.

I'm okay with Proty-Garth, as long as Garth is still in there somewhere (ala Mon-El/Eltro).

It's awesome that Imra's been around since 1958.

Of currently active female heroes, only Wonder Woman has been around longer (1941), and her earlier adventures have been re-envisioned as those of her mother!

Supergirl came out a year later, but has been replaced by two different characters with the same name since then.

Of Marvels 'first four' female characters, the Invisible Woman, Jean Grey, the Wasp and the Scarlet Witch, only one in four is still active in super-heroing!

And old Ironbutt keeps on kicking ass and taking names!

Kudos also to Lu and Tinya, for being in it for the long haul, as well!

I still don't think that Jim Lee cover really captures her. I mean, it's technically very nice but that's just some random mannequin wearing Imra's old costume. The stance, the expression... just so not Imra at all.

Cinar's take is much more the SG I fell in love with all those years ago.

I initially agreed with cleome, but eventually came around to appreciate the idea, for a lot of the reasons you say.

and it gives more meaning to the original LSH death than just an 8-month subplot.

my first appreciation for Imra was when she was consoling Tinya at a time when Jo was thought dead. She reacts to Tinya calling her cold, but then puts it aside and helps her anyway, showing class and compassion.

^Love that scene.

Matt, its about time you let the Imra-love overtake you. The best part is, you can always go back to disliking her years later, as for all you know, she's mind-controlling you right now. In fact, you may even end up marrying her!
