I read the book in 2 days flat. That really says something to me! Lots of great art (pro & fan), lots of great interviews (including that raving egomaniac Mort Weisinger, and a previously-unpublished one from 25 years ago with Keith Giffen). Loads of "speculative" articles dealing with explaining various Legion mysteries (several of which wound up in the actual comics later on-- and not always for the better). It's a terrific package.
For anyone unfamiliar, the LEGION OUTPOST gang, from what I gather, evolved into INTERLAC, a Legion Amatreur Press Alliance. APAs are "fan-clubs-by-mail". Every 2 months you send in a "zine" with art, stories, articles, comments. A "Central Mailer" collates all the packages and each member gets back a "Mailing" containing a copy of EACH member's zines. What a wild, crazy way to communicate, share your love for things, and even make friends.
I should know-- I've been in the OTHER Legion APA since 1991-- KLORDNY. There's only a few mentions of it in the book (understandable), but I got a kick out of the fact that the ONE Klordny member who was mentioned by name (and had his comments included) was Kevin Hawkins, who joined the same time as I did, and who I spend every other weekend on the phone with in marathon B.S. sessions. Far out!
