That's the best guess I can come up with...I didn't catch his name however. Perhaps someone else did and can help shed some light here.

The announcers said he was a Sephian named Zzok.

Curious as to why Winema didn't phase out of the Empress's grip....isn't that a natural ability possessed by those from Bgtzl?

It said Drake Burroughs on that board? I had wanted to know what it said, but was too tired to register it until it was already over. Good to know.

So much to like in this ep, and so many questions raised. Before I forget, I just want to compliment the writers' and animators' use of PG's powers in a fight. I hope Barry and Mark are taking notes.

Could every Bgztlian Phase? in the preboot? in the reboot? Didn't it vary by version?

I know the the WaK version is unique amongst her people.

Though I do have one issue with the logic of Mekt being the guy that openned the gates.

If the Empress was in the viewing stand the entire time couldn't she just have easily pushed the button? Could your average 8-10 year old discern this plot illogic.

Well, my 10 year old enjoyed the show so much, he didn't care.

I was just glad to see Jo and Tenzil woo hoo!

Jo's introduction, while very welcome was a bit odd. We know from the monitor board that he and Tenzil are already Legionnaires, but it was a bit odd that there was no mention of it and that they weren't seen talking to their team members before the games at all. And Tinya (which by the way, is apparently pronouced "TIN'-ya" to end that debate) definitely didn't seem to know him. Could the Legion be so spread out that they don't even necessarily know one another?

And what was with the "Batman Lives" sign? Interesting...

What else was on the Interlac signs? Anybody catch it?

Did the Ultra symbol appear on the monitor board in the show itself or only in the intro. I think the title sequence isn't the status quo at the beginning of the first season but is what we'll see by the end.

Jo and Tenz aren't team members yet, but will be inducted to face a huge crisis because they helped the Legion here. The only members so far are the ones we've seen and the photos at Brin's swearing in.

Tamp,it seems to me that you have it right. From the onset the series has visually referenced a larger team and, in the TW debut, neither Jo nor Tenzil flashed by as active members in the background vid panels. I wished this episode had concluded with another swearing-in ceremony but I bet parents of a certain age of kid fans had wished the show concluded with an admonishment to the audience NOT to eat their crayons or axe handles as ONLY a Legionnaire can do that!

IMO, this episode was a let-down compared to Phantoms, and isn't Mekt supposed to have lighting powers too? They could of had made Mekt more evil and had a big fight scene between him and Lightning Lad! That, and Phantom girls facial expressions were REALLY WEIRD when she was making fun of Superman.
And about Jo Nah, shouldn't he have said ULTRA-STRENGTH? After all, he is ULTRA BOY And did he have ice breath in the comics? I don't think he did.

Whatever, hopefully next weeks episode will cheer me up.

I agree with Awesomegirl. This one didn't meet my expectations.

And I have a strong feeling that next week features Chameleon Boy's debut, but I could be wrong.

I found this episode to be a delight.

I thought Phantom Girl poking fun at Superman and her issues with her mother were funny and endearing. Winema seems much more like a mom here than she ever did in the reboot.

Mekt's introduction seemed appropriate too. He's not a full-blown villain yet, but clearly is self-centered and well on his way to making tons of trouble for Garth and the Legion. How Garth dealt with Mekt's antagonism was a credit to his character. Perhaps his sabotaging the shield was necessary because participants have a less stringent security procedure, though it truly didn't trouble me that much.

What troubled me more was that no other spectators recognized the fatal five at the times when they were visible before the final confrontation. But, I didn't get hung-up on it.

Seeing Tenz was a treat, but some dialogue would have been nice from him. Even Jo (and Tinya's interest in him) was handled well, IMO, given that he's not my favorite character. That he isn't calling his powers "ultra" this or that is explained by him not yet being a legionnaire yet. Timberwolf's oath was when he took on his "legion" name, so Jo probably won't be "Ultra Boy" until he is sworn in.

I've been a bit perplexed that so far we haven't really seen a "legion" of Legionnaires, just the same central characters. After today's episode, I guess I can look at the series as depicting the early days of the group, since Ultra Boy and Matter-Eater Lad were shown as not yet being members (though after the honor ceremony, it seems that they're thought of as Legionnaires). I suppose this approach allows viewers unfamilar with the group time to get acquainted before adding new faces, but it's a little frustrating for long-time fans. Perhaps by the time of the second season we'll see a wider range of members that reflects the mission board icons in the opening credits.

LOVE that Mekt and Jo and Tenz and Winema have parts in this series!! Hope to see further development of all of them, but maybe not as much Winema as in the reboot comic series.
I'm on the list with those who approve of Mekt's portrayal as a jerk, maybe not full-on baddy. He looked great. Looks like a potential story still to come.

JO was AWESOME in action! Whew! TENZ in action!!! Fanboy thrills galore! I noticed it was an all male competition. Where are the women?

I kinda wish it wasn't the Fatal Five going after the President. I mean, I get that they'd want to do it in front of all those sentients, but I thought going undercover at a big sporting event was so not them. I also dislike the five minute wrap up. I don't want to sit through 25 minutes of mindless action, but maybe a different plotline?

I do applaud all the cool looking aliens they're consistently showing in this series. Keeps things very sci-fi and diverse. I can't get enough!

For some reason I thought Jo was on one of the screens during T-Wolf's swearing in, but looking back, I guess not. It makes more sense now seeing it as Tenzil and Jo's introduction.

Mekt did have one of his eyebrows in the shape of lightning. I did like the episode, especially Tenzil vs the Persuader. There were plot holes as have been mentioned. Further plot hole. I think Phantom Girl said that the crowd would have paniced if the SP were brought in to handle the Fatal Five, and yet the crowd didn't panic when the Fatal Five revealed themselves.

I enjoyed CHAMPIONS quite a bit. I've always wanted to read/see a LSH at the Olympics story. I only wish we could've seen what all 12(?) of the events of the competition we saw here. (Was it
'dodecathalon' or something like that?)

I'd hope that at least a *couple* of the events dating back to the early Greek Olympics would still be included.

Winema is *much* easier to stomach than her former comic book self. Was it stated that she's the president of the United Planets? Or just of Bgztl? Or even Earth?

Loved seeing a likeable Jo Nah and Tenzil Kem show up! Wonder if one or both of them will be at the upcoming episode featuring tryouts?

I'm much more interested in Mekt's voyage as a character than either of the possibly recurring antagonists outside of the Fatal 5 (Drax and Alexis). I wonder if he has the lightning-casting power yet? And no mention at all of Ayla? Hmmmm.

I hope we don't see the Fatal 5 again for a few episodes. It might be fun if each 5er takes on the LSH in solo outings...

I wanted to know more about the bug-looking yellowish guy with extra arms (something I usually don't enjoy, but did here). Did he get named?

The alien that *did* get named was a tad too goofy-looking, to me. I hope we *don't* see him again.

Did anyone notice the Brain-Globe of Rambat ambassador? ( *could've* been a G'ildan, I suppose...)

I think the animated version is my favorite ever depiction of a LSH HQ. I hope the cartoon's popular enough to get a toy-version made someday.

I think she meant that if the SP came in and shut everything down and told everyone to leave quickly, there'd be panic, whereas the Fatal Five squaring off against some of the contestants just seemed like just more action to watch (especially with the announcers' play-by-play, complete with sponsor endorsements).

I liked him too, one of the cooler aliens so far; his name was hard to catch, but it was something like, "Karl Magrek".
