Can someone please tell me why we're on the grand tour of the multiverse? How exactly is this helping us find Vee?

They do appear to be happening quicker. I told the Eye to help us get to where we need to go and it seems it is speeding us up on whatever path we are on. As to why....that I can not explain.

If I'm right, and it's the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense, we're not actually searching for Vee. Vee is most likely inside the Variable Realm at this point...

It is almost time. He will overreach his ability soon. Then the master will become the servant. For that is the way of the Variable Realm. I must be ready for that moment and I pray/hope/believe that my cadre of avatars will be ready as well. They think they search for me but it has all been a ruse/lie/misdirection. So much depends on them....

*Pol rasies his arm as if to grab something with his magnetic powers. Suddenly, the Eye goes completely dark as if all the energy inside it had been spent. Worse still, Condo, Cobie, and Rex all staggered and fall to their knees!
At the same moment, the sphere in which they were traveling completely disappeared from around them and the four companions are unceremoniuosly dropped above a small, desolate asteroid circling a bright shining star.

It is as reported earlier. This sentinent has been changed. No longer does he wield the forces of magnetism although they still are a part of what he does. He is now like an energy sponge. He is able to draw or drain energy from power sources in his vicinity and make use of it as he wishes.
