I've decided this title has enough of a Legion connection to warrant talking about it in the main forum. Especially since Legion Lost is now defunct.

So, what do you guys think? I've got mixed feelings on it so far. I'm not really a big fan of these rebooted characters who have, at best, a tenuous connection to the originals upon which they are based. On the other hand, the storyline is not bad at all, if not particularly original at this point. And I'm kind of digging the Larfleeze back-up so far.

I had to skip buying this month's issue to save money but I'm gonna try and pick it up next week.

I look forward to seeing what Keith Giffen may do with LEGION.

I'm actually feeling pretty negative about it and dropped it. I'm one of those rare people who loves the early Silver Age DC space characters, particularly Star Hawkins and Space Ranger. Seeing them reimagined / rebooted is a real bummer for me--enough that I'm immediately taken out of the story from the get-go.

Compiled on that is yet another GL-connection and a pretty by-the-numbers approach that mirrors the Hunger Games (which feels about as lame as when comics try to mirror Twilight). While I love Giff, his difficult to follow story-telling style is not working with the artist IMO, and all the other things I just mentioned make me not want to put the effort into trying to follow the story.

So yeah. Didn't like it and I'm done.

Hmm... I almost completely agree with you, except I'm finding the actual story decent enough to give it at least a couple of more issues.

I like it well enough after the first issue to keep going (haven't got #2 yet). The Hunger Games/reality show model - not so much, but there's enough going on in the story to balance that. Also, I'm not so familiar with the original characters that their re-imagining bothers me. Like Stealth is just named Stealth, she's not the L.E.G.I.O.N. character we knew.

It's a fairly dense book, not hard to follow, but lots to look at - a whole different world (well, city) with strange sentients. Not bwa-ha-ha funny, but funny moments and a few not very subtle digs at media.

I'm sticking with it for now. I'm also a big fan of those old DC space characters - I have every Star Hawkins, Space Cabby and Star Rovers comic published, and I've even written fanfic about them - and I do sympathize with not wanting to see them re-imagined. But I'm just glad to see that those characters not being totally ignored in the new 52. Do you realize that Brother Power the Geek and Prez have appeared in published DC Comics more recently than these guys? Seriously, think about that.

Unless it turns really terrible, or twist them too badly (e.g., the Twilight series - that seriously sucked) I'll buy it. And to top it all off - new 52 Captain Carrot! I'm all over that, man.

One thing that kind of annoys me is the collapsing of all of these characters into the present day. Back in the old days, these characters kind of helped fill the gap on what happened between the present and the Legion's time. So, you had Chris Kl-99, Tommy Tomorrow, and Star Hawkins all in the 21st century, the Space Rovers, Space Ranger, and Space Cabbie all in the 22nds century, the Knight of the Galaxy and the Space Museum in the 25th century.

EDE, I agree that that's a bit of a bummer...also, the fact that they aren't Earthmen anymore (or are they? Homer and Rick of the Star Rovers still have Earth-human names, and in the lead-in story in Green Lantern New Guardians Annual # 1, Karel is spelling her name in English for Carol Ferris). Still, better to see some attempt to use them than none. And being able to tie them into the present-day DCU will probably help get readers interested better than keeping them in their own little corner.

Heck even the Jonah Hex title is tied into Batman these days.

I'm very upset that I have missed these, especially since I was just at the shop Wednesday. But it was kinda crowded so I didn't get to scan the shelves as intensely as I normally do. Plus I thought I had already added this to my pull list.

I'll try to get back down there this weekend, my shop is pretty good about stocking up.

My shop sold out of #1 so I got the digital. Must be a lot of Giff fans here.

I wonder If these old characters are being used but re-imagined (some with different spelling), if that does anything to protect the rights to the characters.

It's funny, I don't have as strong of a connection with these characters (the only characters in this book that I really know/have an affinity for are Blue Beetle and Larfleeze), so I'm just enjoying this as a weird, quirky sci-fi book.

I think I got one of the best laughs of the week where K'Rot first encounters Jaime, because it kind-of epitomizes superhero comics in general: you get a character explaining to himself (and, therefore, the reader) who he is and where he's been, and there's an internal logic that makes sense--and then suddenly a walking, talking rabbit with robot limbs kicks him in the face.

I did not like no. 1, but got no. 2 anyway...

I read it, not expecting to like it, but was kinda drawn in, so I'm a'gonna give it a few more issues ... Yay!

I believe the sales are notably low, a la Sword of Sorcery, so I wonder if the recent announcement about the GL line (there is going to be a Larfleeze book written by Giffen) is also telling us that Threshold (in which Larfleeze appears as a backup story) is not long for this market.

Also, I need to re-read the first couple issues... I see the name Stealth, but didn't catch anything indicating whether she might be related to that other Stealth.

Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!

I finally read 1-2 last night! I most enjoyed that they actually took some TIME to read... this was not a book you could breeze through in 5 minutes.

That said, I am not 100 percent sold. This "feels" like a title that won't last too long, but I will stay onboard for awhile.

The Larfleeze backups are amusing but this character seems 1-note and Lobo-esque. I'll be interested to see where this goes.

If you enjoyed 1-2 then you will love 3 as it is easily the best issue yet chock full of Giffen banter and really moves the plot along.

If it continues in this way I think it has a chance to be true successor to the sci-fi work Giffen and DnA did at Marvel.

Unfortunately though, baring a miracle, this book will be gone by Christmas especially if the sales figures are anything to go by.

Near 40% drop between issue 1 and 2 cannot be good.

I've decided to just make this one thread an ongoing Threshold discussion thread.

I'm still in the "mixed feelings" camp. The first page of the latest issue was pretty sweet, and there are a lot of moments throughout the book to love, but then there's the side of me that keeps stopping and saying stuff like, "How the hell did we get from Peter Porkchops to this?"

I'm loving this, but as I've said, I'm one of the few people who has any great love for these old Sci-Fi characters. I'm glad to see Star Hawkins and that he's still a private detective.

In the backup, Homer Gint of the Star Rovers claims to be from Earth. I'm glad to see that.

The art has taken a turn for the worse, but I love the Star Hawkins-Ilda dynamic - it's revealed that she's programmed with the personality of his ex-wife.

Well, Threshold is gone with issue # 8. I'm not surprised, I haven't seen much buzz about the book in the comics press. At least DC gave sci-fi a try, they even kicked it off in a Green Lantern book in the middle of a big GL storyline.

Thanks for the 8 issues, DC.

This book, like most of the New 52, turned out to be a big disappointment for me. # 5 is my last issue.

Crazily enough-- I rather enjoyed the LARFLEEZE backups. They were just amusing enough for me to get into, so I am feeling likely to continue that when # 1 launches.
