Who do you think wins and why? *Using original DP.

Wow. No fans of the DP or Wanderers?

Doom Patrol: Robotman, Elasti-Girl, Negative Man, The Chief, Beast Boy and Mento.

Wanderers: Quantum Queen, Psyche, Orintho, Celebrand, Dartalg, Elvo, Immorto.


The Wanderers seem pretty confident due to their extra member (oooh er missus). However, Immorto is kidnapped before the battle by Doom Patrol enemy General Immortus.

The contest begins...


Ornitho vs Beast Boy: A win(g) for the far more versatile Logan, who can transform into bird eating creatures.

Psyche vs Mento: Another win for the Patrol. Psyche making Dayton mentally unstable just makes him lash out. Besides, he's used to being a bit nuts.

The Chief vs Celebrand: Did Celebrand have a pistol? Perhaps someone could check the corpse after it's machine-gunned down by Caulder's battle chair.

It's not looking good for the 30th Century...


It's Negative Man vs Quantum Queen. Neg-Man is holding his own (oooh er missus), until QQ disintegrates his host body. The Neg being fights on, but disperses after it's time limit expires.

Dartalg vs Elasti-Girl: Dartalg is too nice to have any poisonous darts. His sedative ones don't kick in until Elasti Girl has squished him like a bug.

Robot Man vs Elvo: It's the fate of all Robotic/Cyborg characters to get heavily damaged in comic book combat. It's no different for Cliff Steele as he loses a leg and takes a few dents here from Elvo's energy sword. But Steele only needs to connect once to win. It's a trip to concussion land for Elvo.


Round Two:

Robotman (damaged), Elasti-Girl, The Chief, Beast Boy and Mento.

vs

Quantum Queen

Elasti- Girl shrinks down to congratulate her comrades on a great round one. She immediately passes out as a result of Dartalg's sedative darts.

QQ races into combat, frying the hopping Steele's circuits, and igniting Logan's fur. It looks as though Caulder can walk, but it turns out it's QQ electrocuting him.

The outcome of the battle is in the balance!

Although Quantum Queen is an energy powerhouse, she still uses human senses. She still has a mind. And minds are what Mento disrupts best. QQ falls screaming to the ground, turning human again and frothing at the mouth.

Aftermath

Dayton helps the recovering Rita Farr to her feet. Dayton never wanted her to be a part of the Doom Patrol, and now he has his wish. There's no Doom Patrol for her to go back to.


The Winner: Steve Dayton!

Wow. What a happy ending!

Quantum Queen is easily the most powerful of the Wanderers. I never realized, but her powers are a lot like Invisible Brainiac's...

And I just read now that Mento can turn himself intangible. What?! I wonder if Quantum Queen would be able to blind him while he's intangible. Or would the light pass harmlessly through him in that state too? Hmm...

Thanks Ibby. I'm all about happy endings. Regardless of the body count to get there.

When I was reading Planetary, I read that there was an ongoing discussion about light and invisibility. As a result, Ellis' rather dull Invisible Girl rip off wore special goggles to enable her to see, while light bent around her.

If she was intangible everything, including light and oxygen, would just pass through, the goggles falling to the ground.

Fortunately, all such characters are saved by the comics code. This prevents them from having to run around naked in their intangibility. This special Code Bubble also enables them to breathe, see hear and speak etc.

So, in your example, in order to participate in the story Dayton would have to sense his targets. Thanks to the Code Bubble he's using sight. This makes him vulnerable to QQ. Not that he would use it, as he was pretty unhinged to be thinking so tactically.

I'm no DP specialist. And I know the Wanderers only from their Legion appearances.

But from what I know, I'd say, the Wanderers take this. Easily.

Poor Doom Patrol. Never getting a break, huh?
