For the 60th Anniversary of the Legion, the 15th Anniversary of LegionWorld.net, and the 10th Anniversary of Legion World fan table at SDCC, I plan on printing out not just the latest fanzine that I’ve been doing over the years, but to also add 5 others. Four of those others will be reprints of key Silver Age stories which I’ve already completed and just need to pay to have printed.
The fifth book, and the reason for this thread, is going to be a directory of every Legionnaire ever. The working title (subject to change) is “Legion of Super-Heroes Roll Call.”
Where I need the help is A) I need people to go through the list and determine if I missed anything and B) maybe help me scan and crop head-shots if possible.
The idea is for the contents of the book to look like the team shots from 1980’s The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe books. Here’s the X-Men pages –

[Linked Image]

The head-shots are primarily from Who’s Who and should look like these, but maybe in higher resolution –

Anyway, any help with this is appreciated. Here’s the listings that I’ve set up so far –

Legion of Super-Heroes is a fictional super-hero team set in the far future of the DC Universe. Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, the team debuted in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958). The original version of the team was replaced with a new rebooted version following the events of "Zero Hour" in 1994 and another rebooted team was introduced in 2004. A fourth version of the team, nearly identical to the original version, was introduced in 2007.

This is a very cool initiative, Nighty! Thanks for all the hard work!

Scans and headshots -unfortunately I don't have access to my physical comic books. If digital copies are okay, I may be able to share some though.

Okay, commenting only on the Reboot portion in this reply as I'm sleepy. Comments are according to your list order.

- if we're going by join order, technically Apparition was offered membership a few minutes before Triad was tongue but they did join together. So Apparition should go first alphabetically? Just a thought.
- LeviathAn's code name is misspelled, should be Leviathan and not Leviathon.
- Zoe's name probably is spelled with that special "e" symbol, but I don't recall it ever being used in the comic books.
- M'Onel also used the Valor code name before he joined the Legion. Did you omit because it didn't coincide with his membership tenure?
- Shvaughn was first appointed SP Liaison Office rin LSH v4 Annual 6, and I believe as early as Legionnaires 32 she was already on-site at Legion HQ.
- Shvaughn's first name is also misspelled.
- Inferno II (Sandy) - her honorary membership was never confirmed. I'm a bit picky on this one as well, as she had killed people in battle before. Granting her honorary membership seems iffy. She DID have a flight ring, but so did Shvaughn at the time - only so they could get around more easily while helping the team out. If included, I would list her as an ally rather than as an Honorary member.
- same for Impulse II - his honorary membership was never confirmed, as far as I remember. Brainy took his flight ring back from Bart, but did leave him telepathic earplugs to communicate with. Would leave him as ally too.
- Magical Advisor for Lady Mysa. Heh. I like it, and a good way to include her. Not, she never went by "The Hag" nor "The White Witch" in the Reboot.
- Kid Quantum II's membership vote was also in Legionnaires 60, though she was helping Star Boy and Monstress out in LSH 102. But that was in her role as Amazer (though she had accepted Thom's offer to APPLY for membership, but had not yet gained it).
- Should Argent get a note saying she only joined for that one issue?
- Dragonmage, Particon and Radion: I'm inclined to dsmiss the DC Encyclopedia as error-ridden. It was impossible for Dragonmage to have been a member; he lost his powers before ever being offered membership, and when he regained them he could not possibly have been offered membership as he was arrested before being depowered AGAIN. Similar issues exist with the membershi[ps of Particon and Radion
- Tyroc up to Galaxy: should they be noted as potential future members? I fear it would be misleading to list them as is
- And if we're including Tyroc and Blok, a humanoid-looking Princess Projectra and what seems to be Chemical King were also revealed in the same panel in LSH v4 Annual 7 (Jeckie is behind Brainiac 5, Chemical King is to the right of/behind Blok). I know it's far from a 100% identification, but it seems close enough. And Tyroc isn't 100% identifiable just by costume either.

Also on the Threeboot:

- some people would argue strenuously, I'm sure, for Theena to be included smile

Thanks for taking the time to go through the list and provide corrections.

Since the DC Encyclopedia was an official publication authorized by DC Comics, I decided those that were listed as members must be included. For all we know those memberships happened off panel (as was many a original Adult Legionnaire). Most of the 5 Year Later Legionnaires were listed only in the Sourcebook as well, for example.

I've decided not to list tenures or statuses as they are subject to change. People come back to life in comics all the time.

I thought I had Theena, but maybe I ran out of space. I'll have to look. She is listed in the roll call after all.

I just re-watched Dark Victory Part 1 and noticed that Infectious Lass, Polar Boy, Porcupine Pete, Color Kid, Night Girl, Stone Boy and Chlorophyll Kid also appear to be members along with those listed above. Does anybody else see it that way as well?

If true then I may have to redo that part and not provide head shots to everyone that joined in that episode.

Was Night Woman confirmed as a member of the Adult Legion? She's in the story, but I don't think it's ever said that she was one of the Subs who joined the team.

Also, I have no problem with including him, but I'm pretty sure Anti-Lad never actually made it past the applicant stage (despite the story title).

So, I should remove her from the list.

They do ask the question in the story about "Who was that other member?" So, even though they don't remember him, they seemed to feel he joined the team despite the story we are then told. So, I'll keep him.

Good catch! The Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #5, 2007 does list out other Legionnaires that includes Polar Boy, Princess Projectra, Quislet, Shadow Lass, Calamity King, Fire Lad, Reflecto and Monstress which I hadn't listed before. So, now I know these guys are going to just be listed with no head shots.

Thank you!

I got all of the animated Legionnaires listed.

And I re-read the Bugs Bunny special and unlike the Scooby Gang, he was never offered membership, honorary or otherwise. Also, Robin turned down membership in the Batman '66 special.

Second story states he was awarded honorary membership.

[Linked Image]

A few more possibles.

At the end of the Justice League Unlimited episode Far From Home Green Lantern (John Stewart), Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) and Supergirl (Kara In-Ze/Kara Kent) are awarded honorary membership in the Legion but Supergirl opts to remain in the future as a full member.

Legion of Super-Heroes Secret Files #2 Hall of Fallen Heroes shows statues of Blast-Off and Atom'X and states Blast-Off was awarded honorary membership after his death presumably Atom'X as well.

Legion of Super-Heroes #300 Douglas Nolan's mutant brain transports him to a reality where he replaces his dead brother Andrew in the Legion as Ferro Lad II.

Cool! Nice catch. I only read the first story, thinking the second was the same.

Hmm..I'll need to add these others somewhere. Although I think Doug is captured in the Adult Legion portion, so that's covered.

Not sure about these but Power Girl from JSA: Classified #2 is said to have joined as Andromeda (Laurel Gand) and Blue Jay in Justice League Europe Annual #3 as a member of the Subs in a possible alternate future. Also wasn't the Super-Pets made auxiliary members? I would think the Subs Double-Header and Antennae Boy would hold reserve membership, especially Doulble-Header who had his on Mission Monitor Symbol.

The subs and pets only count that actually gained membership at sometime. Beppo, Krypto and Streaky were never listed as anything but Super-Pets. The later Subs were also never listed as anything but Subs. Same goes for Bluejay (Annual #2, btw - he sorta joins, but then is sent away after they realize he can't teleport). And for this particular book those don't count. I also ignored L.E.G.I.O.N. as there's no space and no easy way to include any of them.

As for Power Girl, her "membership" wasn't real and was part of a plot to make her crazy by the Psycho-Pirate. Ultimately, it's revealed that she's exactly who we know her to be. So, I don't think it makes sense to include it.

Julie Lad is never really listed/mentioned as a "member." He just shows up. So, again, I'll refrain from listing him. These things help qualify for greamlins on here, but not really membership in the Legion.

Thanks for giving me names to check.

But look at the costume! Look at the deferential way that RJ deals with him! Superboy never got that kind of reaction! lol

Good work Nighty!

I'll need to look out that Blue Jay one...

It's very possible that Atom'x was given membership too, but I wonder if they left him out on purpose. Atom'x died because he broke ranks and ignored the plan; Blast-Off was killed while following the plan. Perhaps Atom'x was not granted Honorary membership because of his, well, stupidity in battle...

But then, it was never explicitly stated he wasn't given Honorary membership, and he does have a holo memorial in exactly the same style as Blast-Off does...

Correct. Should I remove the listing and add the name to Andromeda's alias's?

Hmmm I don't know. This change never made it to print, so all we know is it "should have been" rather than "was". I would keep Galaxy separate still.

There's nothing in any other Reboot comic that supports this. And in LSH 91, Legionnaires encountered an elderly Sister Andromeda in the timestream (in her nun habit), so that contradicts the Galaxy statue. And lends evidence that her later Anomaly transformation would be reversed... which it was.

This looks AMAZING! I differ in that I include those who "decline" LSH membership as having been awarded membership at that time - I would put them above "Honorary" and "Reserve" members. But, why argue with such hard work? How do we get copies of the completed product? smile

I would actually like to do that, but don't have the room for this project. Maybe a followup in the future.

I'll provide a way for non-SDCC LWers to get copies after the Con. This one is so much work, I'm not sure if I'l have it ready to be printed in time.

Anybody want to tackle headshots for the animated Legionnaires? It would really help, plus, I'm not sure I have hi-res enough pics of most of them.
