Rebirth branding disappeared at, what, the end of 2017? I don't see it.

But we're still in Rebirth continuity, right?

This can't be the 'Rebirth' Legion, if only because that would make the *next* reboot, the Afterbirth Legion. Ick!

I'm taking the same position on the new LSH series that I took with the modern Star Wars movies: I'm cautiously optimistic. I've enjoyed some of BMB's work, but disliked some as well. I've been through pretty much every previous reboot and certainly view this as a new Legion. This does look a lot like what I advocated for on either FB or this board when we first got wind of the impending return: a totally new take on the team with no lingering baggage from previous iterations. It's never going to be "my Legion" (the pre-Crisis/pre-MoS LSH) again. It won't be the Reboot (which grew on me to the point that I really enjoyed it until DnA got their hands on them). It won't even be the WaK Legion, which I know I'm in the tiny minority who really liked it. No matter how many connections it has, it won't be any previous version of the team, so it's far better for Bendis to go all in on building his own vision. I'll check it out. If I like it, great. If not, I have five drawer boxes and two bookshelves of material to reread.

The Bendiboot!
The Sookboot!
The Bendisook...although that sounds like a different sort of book...

Fourboot? Finalboot? (for me, possibly... hmmm).

Funny how we tend to name series after the writers, not the artists. The artists change more often, but they're a big part of the feel of a team, especially for a re-introduction.

I wonder if the Waidboot would be remembered more fondly if it were called the Kitsonboot? (Cause he seemed like a really nice guy.)

I admit that I wasn’t in a Legion specific group at the time, but my memory of the Threeboot is that the early issues were well-liked. Most of the negativity I’ve seen (and I’ve missed most of the conversations around here) are about where it went of the rails.

Sort of. Superman effectively rebooted with "Superman Reborn", and then there's whatever Doomsday Clock does. (Plus, there's no way in hell this is what Johns thought he was building to when he dropped Saturn Girl in the "Rebirth" one-shot! Nor the Emerald Empress thing from that Suicide Squad crossover & Supergirl. And then there's stuff like thr completely different Btgzl in Terrifics...)

Well, "Doomsday Legion" is a terrible name, so I'm only going to use that if I hate it. "Rebirth Legion" at least sounds decent, even if it's not exactly accurate.

Naming it "Bendisboot" or such has the problem that it ties it to the particular creator, which doesn't make sense if the continuity outlasts the creator (and couldn't both the reboot and threeboots be referred to as "Waidboot"?).

"Fourboot" has the problem of how one counts 'boots. Does the retroboot count as a fourth 'boot? Exactly how many different retroboot Legions are there, since it's not clear how all these different versions of the Legion that have been showing up the past few years are supposed to relate to the stuff Levitz did, especially towards the end of his run?

"Ultimate Legion"... maybe. Though it's a bit awkward to describe the team with a designation primarily associated with a line of Marvel comics.

I don't know.

There was certainly a section of fandom who were rabidly opposed to any new continuity, and who hated the whole idea of the "Eat it, Grandpa!" youth movement concept. But, yeah, I think most people who gave it a chance enjoyed at least the first few issues of it.

A problem with Ultimate Boot is that it's trying to give itself a level of quality it hasn't earned. Marvel were trying for the same thing.

It remains to be seen if it will oulive Bendis. Perhaps boots, like ages, should be assigned from a later perspective.

Although...

Bootsook would provide us with a crossover with our foot rubbing thread.
Octoboot ties the volume number with our Octopi thread.

I don't mind Octoboot. I'll stick with that for a while.

OK I have to admit I thought it was Black Lightning on the cover at first.

Maybe there's supposed to be a connection?
Maybe Bendis is recognizing how many electricity wielders are Black in the DCU and carrying the tradition into the future?

Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Octoboot conjures an image of a cartoon octopus with eight little booties strutting along, so I dig it.

I am in favor of Ultimate Legion as Bendis said he is approaching this the same way he approached Ultimate Spider-Man. I hope it is as successful as Ultimate Spider-Man as that would be good for the brand. At the very least, I want it to be successful enough to last until Hickman is done with the X-Men over at Marvel. He says all the dream projects are at DC.

Some new spoilers are out. I won’t spoil it, but it turns out that the entire storyline from Man of Steel and Superman has been Legion setup in a backdoor kind of way.

Does the Superman story take place before Green Lantern #9 if not they somewhat contradict one another?

I would say that so far my own term "Bendisboot" sounds best to me. It's not unprecedented--I mean Threeboot is sometimes referred to as "WaKboot" (Waid and Kitson). Plus, Bendis seems to be bringing what is, visually at least, the most different-looking iteration to date. And, while Waid was a pretty big success by the time he got to Threeboot, I dare say that Bendis is the biggest name writer to launch a Legion reboot to date. Whatever you think of his work, he was basically the front-and-center creative mind at Marvel for well over a decade. Before Bendis, the Avengers was not Marvel's premier franchise. They had fallen back in prior years and had been overshadowed by the X-Men for decades before his arrival. You could argue that Bendis deserves at least a little credit for the success of the MCU--not a huge piece of it, but I can see the influence of his work in its DNA.

And now, he's at DC. It remains to be seen if he can recapture the magic at a different company, but I think "Bendisboot" is not an unfair appellation.

Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Not sure what you mean. Which part? Most of the issue is taken up with multiversal shenanigans that don’t have any real impact on the main DCU.
