Yeah, this doesn't really seem "new reader friendly" to me at all. But... it's always super-cool to have new posters on Legion World, so welcome!

We're reviewing the early issues of the Legionnaires series in the Archives thread. They've had a couple of big group scenes, such as the team's opening meeting, which also combined with the main plot. Then they split it down into mission teams. There are a few parallels with that book and this volume, not least the presence of a New Earth. The Bierbaum's superior dialoguing has allowed them to get more from their cast in a couple of issues than we've seen form Bendis in eight. That's not to say that Bendis hasn't given us some good characterisation. This volume seems to be bogged down, trying to get momentum to launch us beyond the opening plot.

Welcome to Legion World neopavlik!

At this point, I half expect to see some big burly guy burst through my door and shout "I am Crav the General Nah!" because that's what he does, a lot. We just aren't getting out of this storyline, and Imra's comment that all she sensed in his mind was darkness suggests that Crav is going to be around for a while yet to get that hint sorted out (unless it's just dropped). I really, really hope that Darkseid isn't behind all this.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the issue for its varied artwork, the dialogue and a few more details about the members. Dream Girl looks like she's solid when she hugs Imra; up until now I thought she might be more phantom or even shifting sand-like. Projectra appears to be in a cement block room in her last panel; maybe the royal family has been deposed. Although she did offer to fund the group.... Element Lad can't restore what he's changed; I never thought of that before, what happened when he changed the atmosphere or turned something into inertron. Mama Brande never changes form; is she stuck like R.J. was?

Maybe Mon-el was in the Phantom Zone for some time, could be where he met Tinya. She mentioned crossing four dimensions; what are the other three?

Re: Action #1024, not much to say, haven't read the prior issues so I don't know what Brainiac 5 is doing there. He doesn't do much except hug the Daily Planet ball, which seems out of character.

I think there's a chance that this is the case. DnA tried to capture The Great Darkness Saga, and I've heard some negative thought son that one. Trying to emulate what's popularly considered to be the best of Levitz/ Giffen is a big ask for the book to pull off, especially considering the plotting of the opening 8 issues.

The ball is a time bubble. One that leads to where the spare parts for Supergirl robots are kept.

You'd think he'd have better things to do. Could be Darkseid; hadn't thought of that; potentially Universo and/or The Dark Man too.

Oh God. Damn. It.

All this time the biggest problem with this issue was staring me in the face and I didn't realize it until now. Literally every other criticism about this issue, nay this series, nay this entire CONCEPT of the Legion, has been rendered null and void in the face of the most egregious problem of all time.

They didn't get Colleen Doran to do Element Lad's page.

And where was the Karate Kid page drawn by Giffen?

Is she even working on #9?

Not that I noticed.

Mike Grell and Gary Frank are though, when it comes to former Legion artists. With Element Lad having had a page, I'd be surprised to see her on the book. I'd not mind her take on any of the rest of the cast.

A Steve Lightle page, with this bright, shiny Legion would seem to be an ideal match.

Chris Batista would be another nice "past artist" that it would be nice to have.

I would especially love to see Steve Lightle draw Shadow Lass again.

I listened to the Subs podcast covering this issue yesterday and one of them pointed to issue #5 in which Brainy was talking about "reality abnormalities", which might explain why there are two Invisible Kids and Ayla's power changes. For the record, another of the group disagreed with this theory, but I thought it made a lot of sense if Bendis is playing the long game. (Still makes the plot seem terribly slow.) There are probably other things that could be attributed to an unstable timeline, but I haven't gone through the previous issues to check.

Here's the page they referenced:

I was joking with someone on FB recently that maybe this is all building up to a huge Time Trapper story. I'm skeptical, but...

Possible, I'd prefer some of the legionnaires switch into better costumes to be sure wink

I mentioned this before but if it turns out this was intentional I'll apologize for my previous criticisms on this.

I mean, I still don't like Bendis' writing but if I'm not gonna bash it for reasons that don't exist. That's what Comicsgate does.

I'd been away for the summer and just caught up on the last two issues of Legion and, because of what I saw here, also bought Action Comics # 1024 and 1025. Was Brainy also in Action # 1023? When we first see him in 1024, he's already in the thick of things.

Welcome back CMK!
Yes, Brainy was indeed in AC #1023, as well as AC #1022 where the House Of Kent saga began. Chapters 1 - 4 so far....

Hope this was helpful.
