I know many of you hate Bendis on Legion. I am just glad we have a Legion to read. Been a long time fan and hate to see another 3-4 years of no new stories.

I've seen in the comments in Bleeding Cool that Bendis said Legion will be back in April. Haven't seen the actual confirmation via Twitter or Instagram.

Sounds like the price of DC comics will go up to $4.99 (i.e. disappointing).

If they do increase the price then add a second story by another writer to concentrate on individual stories.

Would like to see real origin stories on Gold Lantern, Monster Boy, etc.; new relationships development or even new Legion villians.

While I don't love the current Legion, I still would be a bit sad to see it go. It has its fans and it has its potential, after all.

Agreed. Not my favourite but better than nothing and the last couple of issues have been better.

I love the idea of backups by another writer, as unlikely as it is.

The solicits just out for March still had some $3.99 titles at the usual page count, but it also had several $4.99 titles with increased page count and backups. Plus there was a 64 page Batman anthology as well for $7.99 I think. So a bit of a mix of formats.

They've been bringing out more anthologies. I would like that for the Legion, main story and a few back-ups by other creators - or back-ups with the various Legion versions.

This demonstrates once again why Fat Cramer should be in charge of the universe! Or at least DC Comics!

I recently read the Twomorrows DC Implosion book. One of the things it covers is the various formats and pricing points of the Big two across the various years. One thing that came across was that, while I might cheap comics on the racks, the shop owners that have to sell them get so little profit on such things, it's not worth their effort. The higher price point, with the anthology format to give readers something, was a thing they were doing way back then. Hopefully, it will be sold, and get traction, beyond comic shops.

As new head of DC, I'm cutting half the Bat Family books, replacing them with Legion books, keeping everything on schedule and hiring all of you. Thank you for your support and Merry Christmas.

As a stepping stone to being head of the UP before taking the long overdue step of replacing the Guardians of Oa.

In other news, Bendis refused to comment on rumours that Cramer is key to Gold Lantern's origin.

Still no word on this current Legion book continuing?

I for one liked it, it is just a bit slow... I think in today's world, we are so used to being able to binge things, that a short story once a month is hard to enjoy. Older comics are also instantly binge-able, having already been collected - but I bet (esp. after #12 comes out), if you read the first 12 issues in one sitting, a lot of people that don't like it now would enjoy it, at least more if not entirely.

I think this is a major reason newer runs are frequently looked at unfavorably compared to older runs - it's hard to stay into a story with a 30+ day gap, and with little space (few pages!) to increment the story.

Honestly, if they are going to increase cost, fine - but I am sure a lot of that is printing overhead and would not scale linearly with page count. - I think they cam justify a $5 price tage if we got at least 32 STORY pages an issue instead of just over 20.

REGARLDESS, it seems WAY too soon to pull the plug after only 12 issues,. and given how long we waited for this run in the first place, awfully cruel as well. It's almost like someone at DC actively has it in for us Legion fans. frown

I think Bendis is a writer whose work, does lend itself towards TPBs. A lot of the decompression is geared towards hitting end-of issue cliff hangers, with a view towards a collected edition.

It can work the other way. When I was buying the Terra Mosaic in v4, the edge of how tedious it was had worn off after 30 days. When we were reviewing one a week, I couldn't wait for it to end. smile
I agree that when issues contained single stories, you could have an opinion over the whole work. If that's spread across 6 issues, then that perception is going to change a bit, based on the length.

They may want to consider points like the above on story length. I'd probably be happier if I got a whole story for $5. If the story is decompressed further just to fill up the same number of 32 page issues, my interest will be negligible. I can pick up a lot more content on the likes of comixology for the price point they are approaching. There are sales all the time there and elsewhere.

I had read it that the legion would be returning after Intermission From The Future. I obviously wasn't reading too closely. smile

I am sure that earlier we had Bendis commenting about how Legion would be returning after Future State but in a different way, possibly continuing on from that story.

Certainly the lack of the title in the March solicitations is worrying but I haven't heard that it was definitely cancelled yet. Have I missed something?

No, sorry, you haven't missed anything(!), this was must me panicking/expecting the worst. (sadly, sort of seems like the thing to do these days!).

But even if we jump to post-future -state,I will be disappointed. This sounds like it will be analogous to the 5-year gap (meaning, analogous to the V3 --> TMK transition), in that it would jump to a darker and more depressing future.

I had thought that the Future State would be a significant jump ahead in the future of the book. But looking at the preview pics for other titles and the Legion blurb, it's more a 1 year later/5YG, compared to the different generation of characters I had been anticipating.

There are lots of ways it could go. We might be getting a glimpse of what's after the Great Darkness. It might be an insidious influence that's cause the Future State influence, leading into the GDS. So, future state might lead straight into a big event, or act as a stepping stone, where we then flash back and see how that future came to pass.

There's certainly potential to remove it from DCs record of dreadful Events stretching back decades. Perhaps Bendis is using Future State as a narrative opportunity.

Is this a bad time to tell you that those domes were put in place by Blu Tac Bill? Look kinda shaky to me...

...

Yeah, certainly no matter what, if the writer is determined to skimp on material by spreading it out over many issues, we the readers/audience are going to get limited product no matter what.

So, I do like you're idea of one story per issue, but of course that would restrict us to stories of a certain length. So, I would stil want to occasionlly see stories spanninga few issues, but with a longer format per issue, that should never need to be longer than 3 issues, or 4 at the max. (In my mind, "Earthwar" is the gold standard, that was 5 long-ish issues but some with back-up stories, so 4 32-page issues could comforably be even a bit longer than Earthwar.)

Ideally, a typical year would be 4 to 5 one-issue stand-alone stories, a couple of two-parters, and then one long 3-4 issue story. It would also be cool to get some short BACK-UP stories again! (maybe some extra room in the 2-parters?) When was the last time we had THOSE? (probably I am forgetting one or 2 recent cases, but I can't recall any since Zero hour.)...
