So, didja know that comic shops get advance copies of the next week's books? You can see where this is going right?

I've read it. It's good. It's very good.

It forcefully announces that this is a new kind of Legion, while retaining what was truly special about the previous incarnations.

I'm not going to provide spoilers on the board(mostly because I don't remember the book in enough detail). I'll just say that Mark and Barry have done us proud with this book.

I completely agree with you Director Lad. I thought the issue was fantastic. I was afraid it would be a little bit of a let down because of how excited I've been the last few months. I can thankfully say that it is just as good as I hoped it would be. Mark and Barry have done a great job.

I've always wondered about those previews and how retailers get them. My local shop never got them. Is there something special they have to do in order to get the previews?

Oooh you saw the advanced copies already! I know only certain retailers get them right? I think if you're a retailer you have to make out with the Previews guy in order get advance copies right? Remember to apply lipstick liberally...

I'm not sure, but I think they just have to ask the publisher. I don't think they come from Diamond, because the DC and Marvel preview books don't get shipped together. My local uses them as bait for the following week's shipment. He leaves them in a stack on the counter next to the register so that his customers can request books that look good for order.

He laughed when I read it. He knows I'm a big Legion fan and was wondering if I would read or wait.

The cylindical building with the fins on top is definitely their headquarters.

The Threshold concept, minus the kwai, is still in the series.

Daxam is mentioned in the first issue and we get to see Lallor...but you won't like it.

Mark and Barry set up some long term conflict for the Legion, I'm lookinhg forward to seeing how all this falls out.

I really hope they don't mess with Lallorian "history" too much. I really liked those characters and the conflicts, or rather uneasy alliance they had with the Legion. I'm speaking mainly of the Duplicate Boy/Violet/Colossal Boy "thing". Let me stop there, because I'm starting to get off-subject.

I can't really say any more on the subject of Lallor though, having only seen the b/w version there could easily be information only noticable in color. I can't wait to see those huge crowd scenes with the color applied, there are probably a lot of Legionnaires we already know out there but they're hard to recognize without the usual color cues we're used to.

OOoooooo...all this waiting patiently and now that we're down to the last few days and I'm getting excited all over again.

I tried like hell to get my dealer to sell me the advanced copy. He wouldn't go for it. Bastard. I hope he gets a big steaming pile in his stocking.

Actually, he's a nice guy. He did offer to let me read it. I'm just being a crybaby.

-heh heh-

You should have seen how protective of the Legion ashcan Steve Wacker was down at WW Dallas. A few of us were passing it around and discussing a few things and I swear Steve never once lost track of it.
All I needed was a few seconds, I swear...a few seconds and super speed and that baby would have been mine laugh ...unfortunately my powers seemed to be on the fritz that day *le sigh*

I am allowed to buy First Looks through my dealer which is a plus sometimes. Unfortunately, I had to have mine mailed to me this week due to trying to avoid Holiday traffic. The comic was supposed to arrive today, but I guess due to the increase in mail it will arrive on Monday. I will scan the issue on Monday and send the scans to Nightcrawler if I am Allowed.

I don't know. My shop only gets advance copies of Marvel books, but I don't know if that has to do with the comic companies or the distributors.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The orders have to be placed well in advance of one week prior.

Preview copies are exactly the same as the general release. Retailers are just able to get it early upon request (and they have to pay for it like the rest their inventory). So no need to be A/R in this case.

I have read issue #1 and many thanks to my comic shop provider for giving me his preview copy.
Mark & Barry have done an outstanding job. I was very concerned about another interpretation of the Legion and what their vision of the 31st century might be. Without giving anything away…a different take on the future which is believable and intriguing. The artwork is exciting and costume changes familiar but different enough to keep my attention. This issue we visit Lallor and I love the background on the “crowds”. Interested in the changes in Star Boy and Invisible Kid. Can’t wait for next installment (issue #2). Well done Mark & Barry.

I loved having the chance to read the preview and I'd do it again in a minute. laugh I want a copy of that for my collection SO bad...BUT...I don't think that DC-AOL/Time Warner would be too thrilled with us for making it available.
*sniff*

I can't speak for NightCrawler or anything like that but as generous as the offer is to scan that so we can see it, in my mind I think we ought to turn it down so that we don't upset the editor or the grand poobah Powers That Be.

Thank you so much for the offer Mon, I'd give almost anything to be able to say "YES do it!"

Although if Steve Wacker would chime in and give us a yea or nay I'd be very grateful to him.
What about it Steve? Is there any way we can make it available online ... maybe even after the issue comes out? It would be ultra cool for us long time Legion fanatics to have for the old collection.
Please? I'll give you a lifetime pass to a Winathian massage parlor laugh

It's true that the initial order must be placed more than a week in advance; however, the previews on the counter draw in the people who don't read the big Previews book (like me), and can request one of the general stock copies be set aside. That way, the retailer gets a jump on reordering his books.

Thanks for the generous offer. But to keep TPTB happy, I respectfully decline. I really want to see it and I know most of the rest of the group would love it, but I think we can all wait the couple of days that are left.

Thanks though! smile
