I was able to trim my list down to the 15 Reboot characters (I grew up with them, after all; and they got me through some very tough times), and one Pre-5YL one: Polar Boy.

(I do like many of the others on the list, but Polar Boy rises above the likes of Tenzil, Supergirl, Chuck, Theena, pre 5YL Tinya, Laurel, pre-5YL Luornu, pre5YL Val...) Even Dead Earth Wildfire, I don't quite want to see eliminated!

after thinking long and hard, I've decided on my top 10... though there are many others on the list whom I'd vote for, if there were more slots. But these 10 are the ones I'd feel most badly about not voting for.

also playing it a bit safe here - some of my picks have the +10% bonus, but this game has thrown us surprises before... I'm putting some of my +10% bonus picks a bit lower, in the hopes that others who've voted for them will still vote for them and keep them safe. the exception is Kinetix, who is my #1 absolute fave, and so I don't wanna take any chances with her!

On Round 7:

Thrilled to see Lu get through!

Sad to see Vi and Ayla go. One of my favourite Legion couples, making them one of my favourite comics couples. Levitz put Salu through the wringer with the sens-tank/ impersonation plot. Yes, her change in personality was a direct response to that. But then we got to see that settle as the series developed, into the 5YG and into the TMK series. Salu faced so many difficult momnets during all of that. Having to deal with pretty much everything about her own life, her relationships, and how she felt about everyone around her. People who were essentially an extended family.
Ayla too, had come a long way from impersonating her deceased brother, through Light Lass days, through her romance with Brin, and through her own sense of loss and sense of attachement to the others. The two together really helped each other through some tough times.

Jeckie is another one, I'd not have minded winning. A lot of that is, like Nura, Levitz having to work his way out of a corner. With his boss vetoing Supergirl's return, we saw a a lot of strength, and capability in Sensor Girl before the Jeckie reveal. Revealed, we then had an arc from the LSV invasion of her planet, the faith of her people and death of her consort, through to being Leader and her confrontation with the Emerald Empress and the Archmage. Jeckie was central in a lot of the big moments in the Baxter series.

While not at that level for me, Monster Boy was fun; Doctor Fate had long standing (Giffeny) Legion connections; Computo was the SW6 stand out. Always nice to see other pre-5YG points too.

pre5YL and 5YL Ayla, Vi and Jeckie were all definitely outstanding, thothy, I agree. I like how Vi became a much more settled character 5YL, and so did Ayla. Both women grew wonderfully during that time, working out a lot of trauma and issues.

TBH, with Ayla, I preferred her 5YL version vastly over her pre-5YL one. Ayla blasting Polar Boy's Legion leader campaign ice sculpture to smithereens is one moment that made me not like her so much... conversely, I became a much bigger fan of Pre-5YL Garth after seeing his even-tempered reaction.

Jeckie, I also appreciated a lot 5YL. I did feel a lot for her, during the invasion of Orando, and I loved how she took down Nemesis Kid. pre-5YL, her horror at accidentally causing the death of the Emerald Empress was palpable, too. And I always felt she got a bit shafted after Adventure and before v3; in Adventure, she had a lot of great moments, like standing against Persuader and such. But I also remember her passively whining a lot... and when Pharoxx and Hegga made a play for the throne, I remember others, like Nura, shining more than Jeckie herself did! I also didn't quite appreciate her reaction to Brainy apologizing (after obsessively trying to figure out who she was). She "accepted" the apology... then subtly threatens Brainy by hurting his hand. Tch! come on, Jeckie, give Brainy a break.

Agree with a lot of your points too Ibby. I was just thinking about favourite iterations a minute ago.

There are some simply lovely relationship moments in TMK's run between Saul and Ayla. Some of my favourite in comics. Ayla's mechanical nature was also in the background. We saw her interest in keeping the Legion ships going, her friendship with Loomis. There were indications of some of this during the Baxter run. She had been only to happy to leave, befroe Baxter. We then saw her reclaim her old powers and idnetity. She saved a lot of her colleagues. Then she became more of a powerhouse as the series progressed. During that time, she had to reassess relationships, because Salu had certainly figured out what she wanted. I think the impact of that led to a distraction with Pol too. All the cmplex- read-between-the-panels stuff we all like to do with the Legion.

I quite like the Garth-Proty arc. As much for the sheer fun of thinking out the box (or ceremonial casket). It connected Garth's adventurous status through the leadership issues to the quieter retired Garth. It also allowed TMK to give us the SW6 livewire persoanlity. While, for effect, that may have gone too far in the other direction, it certainly laid the gorundwork for events to come.

I think Jeckies' shining moments were at the start and end of the Baxter run. I liked her gentle reminder to Brainy. It added another dynamic to the team. While there was no suggestion of really harming Brainy, we remembered the fate of Nemesis Kid. It reminded us of Jeckie's heritage. And the responsibilities that brings may supercede the goals of the Legion and certain members of it. That was an occassion where I felt TMK didn;t follow through, In that run, her world was the victim of the Khundish mist, and that was that.

fair one, thothy. after all, a Queen's duty is first and foremost to her people... even if, at the time, she may not be a reigning queen

Round 9 begins!

Let's slow things down a bit - I bet most, if not all, of us are reeling from last round. I know I am!

From 20, let's get down to 15.

Please vote for your top 8!

Again, because of the bonus points for our Round 5 winners, I've also tweaked the point system so that higher ranks can earn a fair big number of points. The reason for this: while I wanted the Round 5 winners to get a boost, without making that boost insurmountable - else where would the fun be?

where last round, Rank 1 earns 450, this round, Rank 1 earns 400.

1 - 400
2 - 280
3 - 180
4 - 120
5 - 80
6 - 30
7 - 10
8 - 1

I will post the list of 30 contestants twice - the first is to list the Legionnaires, their bonus points if any, and a reminder re which Round they made it back in -

the second list only has the Legionnaires' names, please use that one to copy-paste the list/wording exactly, parentheses and spaces and all, this will make it a) easier to identify which version, b) it will make my Excel lookups work smile

List with round information and starting bonus points, for decision-making reference!

(5YL) Matter-Eater Lad - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 274
(Dead Earth) Wildfire - Round 6 winner - 0
(Pre-5YL) Bouncing Boy - Round 6 winner - 0
(Pre-5YL) Brainiac 5 - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 235
(Pre-5YL) Phantom Girl - Round 6 winner - 0
(Pre-5YL) Supergirl - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 233
(Pre-5YL) Tellus - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 188
(Pre-5YL) Timber Wolf - Round 6 winner - 0
(Pre-5YL) Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel - Round 7 winner - 0
(Reboot) Brainiac 5 - Round 6 winner - 0
(Reboot) Gates - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 286
(Reboot) Gear - Round 7 winner - 0
(Reboot) Invisible Kid - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 130
(Reboot) Kid Quantum II - Round 6 winner - 0
(Reboot) Kinetix - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 423
(Reboot) Shrinking Violet/ LeViathan II - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 282
(Reboot) Spark - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 222
(Reboot) Triad - Round 6 winner - 0
(Reboot) XS - Round 5 winner with +10% bonus - 190
(Threeboot) Theena - Round 6 winner - 0

Hope that's not too hard to read... don't worry, there is an easier list below!!!

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 72 hours (so, around this time on February 3rd, Saturday - around dinner time for me smile )
2) I'll vote at or near the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.
3) While I don't encourage changing of votes, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.
4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, he or she will get a makeup vote next round - +15 points to give a Legionnaire of their choosing (only applicable once we do ranking; for rounds before, will do something else).
5) In case of a tie, I will look at cumulative points through past rounds to break the tie.

Realities remaining on the list - you can use this to search (Ctrl+F) the list of Legionnaires, too! (and if you have questions on the realities, please let me know!)

random thoughts will I let myself absorb what has happened:

So we still have 10 Reboot, 7 Pre-5YL, and one each Dead Earth, 5YL, Threeboot.

Theena looks to be the dark horse of this race - I do like her, but also find it interesting that she's outlasted the likes of other "niche", relatively "unique" characters like Infectious Lass, Shikari, Spider-Girl, Veilmist...

in one stroke, we lose all versions of the founders, yow!

I miss Live Wire, but the writing was on the wall, not many others were giving him points. I miss Monstress too, though am pleased she got this far - she's certainly come a long way from the Legionnaire that many fans wanted dead!

While I do like Umbra's growth under the DNA era, I have to admit she was quite something before - even her LSH Secret Files 2 entry says that her teammates thought of her as an "arrogant snot". She was cruel to Monstress in Legion Lost 7, but she was also telepathically influenced then, so I can excuse that.

pre 5YL Imra. I really liked her in Adventure, and even up to Universo Project. I have big issues with her during, and after, Conspiracy. I can excuse her secrecy during the Conspiracy build-up (though I love that Tellus of all Legionnaires called her out on her "un-Legion-like answers"!). My qualms with her - even more so than Brainiac 5- come from what I see as her hypocrisy after. From pulling rank on Polar Boy during Brainy's trial ("Don't quote the constitution at me, I helped write it!"). to her being, well, in my mind unfairly critical of Brek (when fighting the Emerald Empress: "We did fine, despite Polar Boy seriously misbalancing the teams.") eh? didn't see any evidence of that...

But also, I found her full-throated defense of Brainy interesting, versus her rather strict Legion Constitution interpretation before that got Star Boy kicked off the team.

(for that matter, pre-5YL Brainiac 5 loses points from me for that too - he was the prosecutor versus Star Boy, was he not?)

I regret losing Polar Boy a bit, to be honest. he was not always the wisest Legionnaire, but he had spirit. (5YG: his pizza parlor protest, that got him locked up - brave, but not effective. Jacques and the other Subs made smarter choices then!)

Karate Kid, I found a much more competent :Legionnaire in the Adventure Era. in v2, he acted kinda dumb a lot ("Astound this, Stone Face!" and promptly crashes into Darkseid...); then he went out in a blaze of glory at the start of v3.

as for Reboot Cos, I should rank him higher, he was an excellent first leader. he did have his flaws though, sometimes he lost his temper...

well, everyone who made the top 30 is a big winner in my book!

that was fast, Set smile

I just remembered: both Pre-5YL Imra and Val made it to the Top 3 last time we ran this game... but the voters have changed so much from last time, too!

also, a little reflection on why I like Reboot Garth so much - yeah, he had his immature moments, but he really grew into a mature, seasoned Legionnaire towards the end. especially under DNA. I cried when he sacrificed himself in Legion Lost, and was shocked when he returned as Jarth.... and dang it, he and Imra deserved their happy ending. which has happened in my fanfic land, at least smile

Sigh. Goodbye 5YL Brainy. It felt like this portrayal extended and completed Pre-5YL Brainy. In contrast the Retroboot took him in a direction I didn't like.
Also sad to see Laurel go. A wonderfully unique character, very different from both Kara that she replaced and the later Reboot version.

Looking back I am sorry I didn't vote more for Imra earlier. She was a backbone of the team in many stories, and an effective leader.

Your comments on Livewire, Ibby, are well made. He did experience a lot of growth over the series and showed a lot of strength and leadership and sacrifice.
