I dont think the issue would be Cobie thinking he's right, or whether the Founders are "in the know" but rather the point you hit on when you said "They might take issue with Cobie and Lardy potentially bringing trouble to LW."

There is no doubt that Cobie has kicked a hornet's nest. And there's also no doubt that his actions are going to cause the deaths of millions of sentients.

How do the Founders react? Are they all of one mind supporting Cobie, Lardy, and the LMP's actions or is there a disagreement among them?

I have thought about what my main influences are:

1) History, simply because it is my Major. Nasger, where Sebastian comes, and it's neighbor Raltvee is rooted in the Renaissence.
2) Science and Science-Fiction, mostly because of Emily's family and background. Sebastian's also skilled at computers.
3) Religion,I do draw a bit from theology. One of Sebastian's friends back home is possessed by a demon (nobody thinks Miguel is because he's become super-religious). I really like Paradise Lost, Faust, and of course C.S Lewis.
4) Other Literature- Don Quixote, Shakespeare, I guess anything rooted in the Renaissence. And of course Ayn Rand and other philosophers appear here and there.

What do you think your influences are?

That's a really interesting question, Em.

Personally, I don't really write enough to say that I have any overwhelming influences but there are a few things that I like to read or watch that have their hooks into my current story (and the style I've used in roleplays).

The most overwhelming one on my Mobius story is obviously the TV show, "LOST". You know, a non-linear story about a bunch of scientists doing secret time-travel stuff in a place hidden from the outside world. The characters themselves, though, are all based (at least, physically and name-wise) on a classic group of comedians called the "Dead End Kids". I tried to imagine what "Ex" would look like grown up and I came up with the "leader"of the kids, Leo Gorcey. All the other guys - Huntz Hall, Jordan, Halop, Dell, and Punsley - were named after the other kids. Amelita Ward was Gorcey's real-life wife for a time.

From a narrative standpoint, though, it uses two things I've always loved - non-linear story telling and the repetition of symbols (both objects and dialog). Examples that I've liked that jump out at me are things like the films of Tarantino and Aronofsky (especially in "The Fountain"); comics like Watchmen or the Invisibles; and authors like Faulkner, Vonnegut, and the best example that I can think of, and the one that probably influenced me the most, Joseph Heller's "Catch 22".

I wish to thank Faraway Lad for his contributions in the creation of the Eraser. He's slowly evolving into a three-dimensional villain, and I could never have gotten this far without your help.

Shucks, Abin. shocked

Seriously, though... thanks so much; I had severe misgivings that anybody else would like it because it's sort of "insular". Just one more chapter to go... then I can start getting into the Dark Oval stuff. smile

It took about a week longer than I originally planned, but there was a lot of working out details of mythology that went into it!

Yeah, we had a lot of back and forth. Lucy wrote 80-90% of it, but all the details were discussed extensively via PM and FB! And we have a few tricks up our sleeves as well.... laugh

What's important to note is we had to develop what had been largely a series of insinuations over the last better part of a decade!

BTW, there was some debate between us about the sexual euphamism Lardy uses at one point in the post. Let us know if it worked for you! smile

I'm especially interested the Seven Deadly Sins of Mankind. In Pre-Crisis DC and Batman the Brave and the Bold, they are called the Seven Deadly Enemies of mankind. Lust and Gluttony are replaced by Selfishness and Injustice in the interest of keeping things family-friendly.

Anywho, this is the last post I am going to make for two weeks. Please watch Question Lad and Red Arrow, make sure they don't get in too much trouble when I gone. They like pop culture references, fourth-wall breaking, and exploring Legion World.

I was wondering if I could get some opinions on a couple of my "Cautionary Tales" fanfics.

The original:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4576626/1/bCautionary_b_bTales_b

And two of the spin-offs. The first features Timber Wolf and Phantom Girl, "The Hearse".

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4832554/1/bCautionary_b_bTales_b_The_Hearse

And this one features the red-skinned Legion applicant who wore tiger stripes. "The Guest".

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4909359/1/bCautionary_b_bTales_b_The_Guest

I'd also kind of like some feedback on the con sketches I posted, but I guess since those aren't pieces done by my own hand it doesn't count.

I've started reading "The Lord of the Oval" - I just finished the "meeting" scene, the post with the map - and I am just blown away by how epic the scale of this thing is.

I know there are a lot of other contributors later on, but thus far the section I've read was primarily the work of three posters - Lardy, Cobie and Dev. I really enjoy each of the three styles and just wanted to give my first impressions.

First off - Lardy. I knew from the couple of roleplays that I've done with you that your character had a very rich backstory, and quite a few peripheral characters. What I'm always amazed at is how fleshed out each of them are. When I was writing my story, there were quite a few people who were just cyphers - just interchangable names that did nothing other than service a plot. None of your supporting cast seems to be that. Each one seems very emotionally realized - reacting to things in a manner believable to what you've already established. Of course the most complex character is Lardy himself... you do a great job capturing the "flawed" hero, the man who has so much potential to be great and noble, if only he could stop getting in own his way. He's like "Super-Macbeth". smile

Next - Cobie. I have to admit, a lot of times during past roleplays I've found it hard to get a handle on the magnitude of what you've conceived as the overall world in which all of these characters exist. I'm not saying that as criticism... if anything, I want to give you credit for the sheer scope of your thinking. I don't know what your education background is, but I have to assume that if you weren't a history major, you must at least have that as a primary personal interest. To build up, over the years, an entire fictional social/political/religious/military structure that spans a galaxy is nothing short of amazing. Top that off with the "meeting scene" where you presented the mission and strategy in such a detailed fashioned that I almost felt like I was having an army flashback, and I tip my cap to you in respect.

Finally - Dev. I've mentioned this before to you in a PM during the "Red Bee" stuff, but I just want to go public with this: You are my favorite writer on Legion World. The thing I like best when reading a story is the ability to lose myself it, to be able to percieve, almost visually, what the author is relating. I get that more with your posts than with any other online fiction I read. I think it has to do with the way in which you handle motion. A lot of people (and I think I just recently learned that I am personally horrible at this) advance scenes through nothing but dialogue. The actual movement of characters and objects through the space in which they are existing is just glossed over. I never have that problem with your writing. I'm always able to "see" where each character is in relation to one another and how their individual motion impacts other people/and things in that space. I'm probably not describing it well, but it's kind of like the "space" element in what they call "mise-en-scène" in cinema. Whatever it is... it seems like it comes very naturally to you, and it makes all the difference in my enjoyment of a story.

So... back to the story smile
