Saturn Girl, thanks for your observations. Being primarily buddhist, I view the old woman as a bodhisattva or the tao just picking me up and dusting me off. I guess it was passed along because afterwards whenever another cyclist was stopped along the road I'd give a glance to see if they were in distress and needed some assistance. You can usually tell at a glance. Cyclists tend to watch out for each other, except for racing packs, which probably is true in real life. The driven drive by.

If we focus only on the path, we lose direction. If we focus only on the direction, we lose our path.

This is why buddhists try to develop the third eye (which isn't really an eye) to see and understand both at the same time.

And sometimes we are given unexpected wondrous assistance. If one chooses to pay attention to such possible enlightening assistance, one finds it possibly happens far more often than we are conscious of.

One just has to pay attention and not automatically write off everything odd as a coincidence.

Life is more than a coincidence to be dismissed.

I confess and I swear to you that what I’m about to tell you is true. After I wrote my above post about getting unexpected wondrous assistance, I went for a walk. Most of the stores were closed and there were few cars or shoppers around. I enjoy walking on holidays, it’s usually quiet, even serene. On my way back, on a sidewalk in front of a house was a rowing exercise machine with a handwritten sign on it that said “Free.” It was maybe a couple years old, but in excellent shape. I took off the sign and when I got home, I drove back and picked it up.

I had made a promise to myself this week that when Thanksgiving was over and all it’s food was gone, I would go back on my diet and put together a winter exercise program. I need to do this for health not “beauty.” And so, after writing and sharing about getting unexpected wondrous assistance, this happens within the hour.

I’m not making this up. I’ve learned that when a “large” synchronicity happens (as opposed to the little daily occurrences,) there are often multiple possible meanings or interpreted “intentions.” Besides assisting me with a fun new toy to encourage my health, this synchronicity - because of my prior sharing of the possibilities of such events - may also be “intended” for me to be able to share such an event as it just recently occurred.

The rowing machine is not a “reward” and I just don’t see it in any religious sense of a blessing. I realize I am fortunate to be aware of the possible transcendental nature of this event, but to me the primary dynamic of such events is enlightenment, in this case realizing that my health needs to be attended to and that the unique particulars involved offer an opportunity to share this experience and its enlightenment here.

I’m a pretty stubborn person, as I’ve evidenced here often. Sometimes I have to bang my head thru many similar “Aha!” enlightenments before I wake and smell the synchronicity. And one thing that has been thumped into me over and over and over is that while maybe “no good deed goes unpunished” (or rather unappreciated,) when you truly give without expectation of any “return,” you unexpectedly receive greater than you ever realized you wanted or needed. You get back “more,” because you didn’t realize your true need or situation and now you have been enlightened to see it.

What I received isn’t the material object of the rowing machine. It’s the specific attentive focus on my health and the constantly renewed deeper consciousness that transcends habituated surface awareness. And also the opportunity to share a “real time” synchronicity here.

Or you can just call it all a big coincidence. Without question, that opinion certainly is the saner and safer course.

In any case, I’m additionally thankful this Thanksgiving.

I confess, that good intentions aside, I may have killed this topic.

I confess that I ate reasonable proportions of everything today, except for the food.

I confess that a month after each, I can never remember who won the Superbowl or the World Series.

I confess that I've woken my self up with my snoring and fallen asleep writing.

I confess that I once quit a lousy job to go buy a comicbook and read it in the park, surrounded by all the winos and pigeons.

I confess that I was initially highly intimidated by the sheer number of characters in Legion, and because of this I only started reading it a year or two ago.

I confess I plowed through every back issue in the my friend's colleciton in one setting - and boy, was I ever confused when I was done!

I confess I like almost everyone better in the preboot.

Sorry JT.

I confess that I was caught earlier this evening by a neighbour.......dusting & polishing.

I confess that I cried buckets at The Green Mile.

I confess that I passed my driving test a month ago and I've already caused about $1500 worth of damage to my new (1998) car. Thank goodness for fully comp insurance, I say.

I confess that this was a double post because of that non-posting error-thingy and that I was going to delete it, but I came to my senses and typed this bonus confession instead.

Without flexibility, we are just stiffs.

I confess that this post is just to point out my edited post two posts back and I just couldn't stand it if any human missed a syllable of my jocularity, and I was gonna figure out some brilliant punchline for this, but the radio is now playing that goddam fuckin doggie-barking version of "Jingle Bells."

I can't continue, I'm overcome with cockamamie-ness.

I must confess! I heard the other candidates whispering behind the Embassy -- they were trying to hire some mean dogcatcher to "put the puppy in a sack" and "make sure he's never seen again"! eek

I confess I'm eating a cinnamon roll and wondering what you're talking about, KP. Ignorance is not only blissful, it can be darnright tasty.
