The earliest mention I can recall is Mon-El as Legionnaire Lemon/Kid Marvel(or Marvel Lad?) when he was finally released from the Phantom Zone. He whipped it up as part of the test he had to go through for membership since most of the members didn't know he had been released.

"Hey Jim! Get Mon out of the Zone!! And...when do we get Condo back?"

Superman and Supergirl zoomed out into space and brought back an anti-gravity meteorite and presented it to the adult Legion as a Christmas present. It was in "Superman's Super Courtship" when Supergirl tried to get her cousin married off by fixing him up with various women including Saturn Woman and Helen of Troy. Can't remember the issue number offhand but it was in a Supergirl story in Action.

That's it! Well, Jim got the hard one, but SoM got the other 2 first, so I'll give the question to him.

The funny thing is, in "Superman's Super Courtship," I think Superman makes the comment "Now you won't have to use flight belts anymore!" This was apparently forgotten when the flight ring origin was published in the short story around 1980 or so, which attributed the invention of the metal to the Legionnaire Lemon. Go figure...

You're up, SoM!

At one post-boot point, there was only one active Legionnaire left in the 30th/31st Century. Who was it, when was this and why?

M'Onel, while Imra and company were lost, and because "McCauley" had disbanded the Legion?

I'll also say M'Onel, but I'm thinking that SoM is referring to during Legion # 100, when Team 30 went to rescue team 20 and bring them home, but he was away fighting Khunds (Legionnaires # 56).

Or was it Leviathan when Cosmic Boy & co. went back to the 20th Century to meet Superboy for the first time?

I can't remember if there were any other active Legionnaires left in the 30th Century with him but there may have been.

Blacula, there were tons of active Legionnaires in the 30th century during the Superboy issue. The only ones who went to the 20th century were Cos, Saturn Girl, XS, Chameleon, Brainiac 5 and Triad.

In any case...next question:

How many potential members did we see the Emerald Empress reject for her Fatal Five, and name them. (yes, that's a giveaway that there were more than one)

I'll say 2: Persuader and Kamrag

She initially rejected Persuader, but when her efforts to find recruits proved fruitless during a battle with the Legion, she grabbed him up as she escaped saying "when the ideal fails, go with what's reliable".

She was looking for Validus, and Tharok was gone. She winced at the thought of Mano, although Mano claimed the Empress had promised he could join the team if he brought her a Legionnaire in a bag... I'd almost count Mano, because she did not want him on the team and he wanted to be, so she probably sent him on the fool's errand knowing/hoping he'd be caught. And any discussion they had regarding him joining was off-panel, and you asked "How many did we see..."

Kamrag was killed by the Eye for failing to find out where Validus was.

And on the flipside of things, Sensor Girl rejected the Empress' offer to join.

Ultimately her Fatal Five were the Emerald Empress, Persuader, Flare, Caress, and Mentalla.

Omni:

You're right about Kamrag, and I was counting Mano, who we "saw" wanted to join but was not allowed until he killed a Legionnaire. I was not counting Persuader, who she ultimately accepted.

Since you got 2, I'll give you the next question. For the record, though, there was also a third: someone on Rimbor named Javors, who Lightning Lass and Shrinking Violet had gotten a tip might be joining the Empress. As it turned out, he had been killed...presumably by her, in rejection.

Oh, I did see the Javors' body as I skimmed the issues surrounding this, but I wasn't following that the Empress had killed him. I missed the bit that he was trying to join.

Quite frankly if I had to choose between being rejected by the Emerald Empress or by the Legion, I'd choose the Legion. At least there you get a flight belt... the Empress just kills you if you don't pass your initiation!

Back in a bit with a question!

The Luck Lords, in Legion of Super-Heroes #45 (Baxter series, 30th anniversary issue).

They were using Mekt as their unwitting agent to kill Garth. The Luck Lords believed Garth's death would have shifted the balance of the universe from reason to chance.

They each spoke during the brothers' battle, saying:
"First Born, he shall be our prince of victory."
"Twice-Cursed, by birth and by accident."
"Thrice-blessed, by the Lords of Luck."

Other than at the beginning of the recent "Foundations" story, when else in the post-boot did a story's creative team do a take-off on the opening scenes of the first egion story in Adventure # 247, in which the Legionnaires, in civilian clothes, greeted Superboy/Clark Kent, revealing knowledge of his secret identity?

I think KGZ was replying to the anti-gravity Q from a while back.

Hey, KGZ, we've moved on smile

*doesn't know the answer to the Superboy-homage Q*

No that was a mistake, I had copied and paste and accidentally pressed reply and it was to late to do anything because I was on a teacher's computer and she was kicking me off the computer. Sorry!

As for the Q, was it when Cos, Imra and Ayla encountered Impulse when they were stuck in the 20th century?
