Another awesome issue. Does anyone think the solid gold Superman at the end is none other than distant-future Kal-El himself? It's kind of hinted at.

That was my take on it. Good story. I liked how it managed to have the feel of a silver age story, but without being corny.

Yeah its him from the 853rd century, as seen in the DC One Million X-Over.

Reading it for the umpteenth time I still cant believe how well written this was. Its a Superman story that's been told many times but GM's version is right up there with the best of them.

Never saw the One Million except for the Legion one which I got accidentally and it really kind of sucked.

One word (to be taken in its silver-age comics context, not a sports fan context) sums it up: *choke!*

Quitely's art can be deceptively simple.

Mirrison's borrowing some ideas from Alan Moore's run on SUPREME and giving them a tweak.

Probably the best issue yet.

Hmm... I wasn't really all that impressed by #7.

I found it kind of confusing and hard to follow. To the extent that when I reached the title page, inexplicably place like four pages before the end, I wondered for a moment if the pages were out of order or something.

Anyway, the take on the Bizarros was kind of interesting, but not all that exciting. I appreciated seeing the crew from Planet, but the Chief looked kind of weird.

EDE I agree. In fact to me the whole issue seemed to be a prelude and a bit confusing (still cant make head nor tail out of that very first panel)and maybe the title page should have been the last page.

I loved the fact that the Planet staffer (argh! can't recall his name) was immune to the Bizarro virus due to the "performance enhancement" drugs he's taking. ...Maybe I should respond to those SPAM e-mails after all.

This was my least favorite AS Superman issue yet till the last page that is. Zibarro made things more interesting but before that it just seemed to drag on.

I'll agree this issue was VERY hard to follow.

I also found it distracting that it was set at Christmastime... now that it's APRIL.

Over at Newsarama Grant gave a 52 exit interview. They asked if he ever felt in a pinch and he stated there was one month he did. ASM #8 was one.

He also said all his other work suffered b/c of 52. Guess we can chalk last issue as a 52 victim.

Just read #10 and it might have been the second best issue of thes eries (the first being the previously applauded #6). A great issue with some really dynamic moments and yet another misty-eyed moment at the end.

Grant used the Superman Emergency Rescue Squad and the "little Superman coming out of his hand" bits and turned them into one of the most heartfelt panels of 2008.

This series is amazing. Its just so far ahead of most of the market.

All-Star Superman # 12 is out now. IMHO the best 12 issue run of Superman.

This last issue was -- by turns -- clever, bizarre, thought-provoking, incomprehensible, and beautiful. In other words, typical Morrison stuff.

The ending definitely leaves open a number of possibilities for continuing the story in the future.

Finally got to read this entore thing as a whole.

Best Superman Tale in a long while. Deserves all the praise it got.

I loved the way that Jimmy was portrayed.

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

So I re-read this epic recently, probably my first truly considered and focused reading.

As with a lot of Grant Morrison stuff, there are parts I think are brilliant (mostly in the bookend issues, approximately 1-3 and 9-12) and parts that don't quite come off (mostly in the middle issues -- like a lot of posters in this thread, the Jimmy Olsen part and the Bizarro part are what I think are the weakest spots; but even on the lesser issues, Frank Quitely's art is on point; and the middle issues do have some great moments as well, such as the death of Superman's adoptive father (Morrison's own father had died just before this project got under way, and Morrison says that his spirit informed their* writing throughout.)

My verdict: definitely in my personal Morrison Top Ten, maybe even Top Five.

* Morrison's pronouns are now they/them, ever since 2020 when they outed themselves as non-binary.

Still "Fickles" to my friends.

I need to re-read this. I don't really remember it much at all, other than the first couple of issues. Apparently I really liked it, based on my above comments.
