Well, at least we've got more war. It's known to be healthy for children and other living things!! (Yeah, I'm really giving away my age by recycling such 1970s peacenik lingo.)

It's like those "tough" people who say suffering builds character read an article about it though - traumatic events are still harmful! it takes a certain mindset (and some help) to get past them! https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20220311-the-complicated-truth-of-post-traumatic-growth

What doesn't kill you, makes you suffer various traumatic episodes for the rest of your life, as the old saying goes.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."

Exactly, yes it gives you experience. It also gives you PTSD.

I was going to make a Hansel and Gretel reference, but I see someone already did in the article!

It's an early lesson that you don't have to be the fastest in getting out of the woods. Just faster than the slowest kid, when the wolf starts hunting.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. If the slowest kid is smarter, they may find a better hiding place or create a better diversion than you.

Reminds me of a story, of a smart/clever guy who was physically weaker. He had to duel a much bigger, stronger soldier at night. He kept one eye closed, then destroyed the lamp in the room - by that time, his eye was used to the darkness, so he was easily able to beat the bigger guy.

Great song, that's one I've never gotten tired of after all these years. Thanks, Thoth.

Traveling's all right, I guess. But it can't compare to the excitement of finally getting the roof replaced before it falls in from heavy rain.

ah, the thrill of the chase (to run inside before it rains), the rush (that comes with madly dashing to the store to buy tools)

What do you mean? Traveling to Orlando's great!
Doesn't everyone love hotel lobbies full of families with young kids pumped full of sugar standing in line for free breakfast? Or even better, the adults after 5 standing in line for free drinks while only one bartender is working? Or plane delays?
It's magic I tell you!

Going out at all is overrated.

Cozy homes are nice! I can pour a glass of wine, sit beside the window, listen to my fave music...

mr_cleome keeps talking about visiting family in the Midwest and other trips, now that he's got a much higher-paying job. I just keep thinking about how much I want a front and back porch, and a catio for His Nibs , and solar panels and a skylight and a bathroom upgrade and... and... First we have to fix the roof and foundation, however.

s'ok. My wife wants to take the kids on a road trip across New England next month, which we've already done.
I'd rather hop on a plane to literally anywhere else so I'm not in a car for that long, just so someone else is doing the driving.
