You too can send in your character to Adventure Comics, and see them appear in Dial H for Hilarity!

I was reading Scream, a UK horror comic series, last week. Strips included
The Dracula Files, where a vampire escapes across the iron curtain as a defector, only to start a wave of terror in the west. The Thirteenth Floor - The computerised majordomo of a new building looks out for its tennants, taking anyone who crosses them to the virtual world of a supposedly non existent floor. Monster - harrowing tale of a boy and his uncle, who had been locked away in the family home for decades. Terror of The Cats - The Birds, but with our kitty overlords. Tales From the Grave - Tales told of a graveyard's residents, as told by a leprous gravedigger Ltd of chilling little short comics. All put together by some of the talents behind 2000AD, including a certain Mr Alan Moore for the first episode of Monster.

It was a very good series in the early issues. Gritty artwork and a more real world setting than the faux period pieces in a lot of Dracula movies. Years later, I imagine I liked Dracula AD 1972, partly because of the Dracula Files. It was more interesting seeing the vampire having to adapt outside a castle.

I'm a luddite when it comes to vampire stories -- gimme castles, damsels, fearless monster hunters, the whole gloriously cornball works!

I recall Polanski's Fearless Vampire Killers as being a bit rubbish.

I haven't seen the one Thoth mentions (nor do I intend to, given that Polanski is a convicted sexual predator,) but I have seen the one Ibby mentions. I expected to love it, but I hated it. To each their own.

I try to not try things with too many expectations. And completely agree with Fickles on Polanski. Very creepy how many actors supported him.

As we've seen many times in the last 20 years, he'll even in the last few months, it's disturbing how many folks will clap and cheer only to fit in or not rock the boat when someone of note does or says something ugly.

Yep. Which is funny, given all the wailing about "cancel culture." It's basically impossible to send anyone famous away for good. There's always a crowd of sycophants out there ready to refurbish their public image and give them more money, no matter what they've done. [eye roll]

There's a lot of people in the U.S. who are either obsessed with British royalty, or who treat local dynasties like that. I've never understood it.

My wife is a big follower of the royals. I'm all like, "didn't we throw a revolution not to be into all that?"

Transitioned to being a republic last year. Despite having numerous reasons for this probably not unconnected to the Queen making the not very popular Charles head of the Commonwealth when she goes. That acted as a nice reminder to a number of countries that it was time to move to something different.
