So, I was thinking about Plato's original Atlantis story recently, and something struck me as curious. The original unfinished myth is supposed to detail an ancient war between Atlantis, the mighty imperialist naval power and a pre-historic city-state that was the predecessor of Athens, with a system of government modelled roughly on Plato's Republic. In the end, after proto-Athens defends itself successfully from the much larger Atlantis, both cultures are destroyed by the gods, with Atlantis sinking below the sea and proto-Athens sinking under the ground. So, what struck me as weird is that there's a ton of pop culture about Atlantis, there's very little about proto-Athens.

Then it occurred to me, given the tendency of some recent portrayals of Krypton to model Kryptonian society on Plato's Republic (well, Man of Steel at least), one could easily re-imagine "The War between Krypton and Earth" so that it could actually be the historical source of the Atlantis myth in Plato. One would probably want to add a detail where the Kryptonian colony ends up underground, but the basic framework seems to be there.

Cool thought. Maybe the writer and editor (jerry Seigel and Mort Weisinger?) were also familiar with that detail of the Atlantis myth and decided to use it. Even if not, you are right. It is a great idea.
