It is Ra's Al Ghul! It was rather a surprise in the comic when he transformed into the Demon (the other one, Etrigan, you know what I mean).
I have been quite enjoying this series Dark Knights of Steel. It is slow to come out but the exploration of the setting has been done very well. The starting premise is that Jor-El and Lara escaped Krypton together in his experimental rocket and Lara gave birth to Kal-el shortly after arriving on Earth, an Earth that was set as medieval but with the characters of today we are familiar with. At first they live in seclusion until Jor-El discovers another disaster about to happen, the eruption of a volcano in the kingdom ruled by Thomas and Martha Wayne. After the Els reveal their powers while saving the kingdom they are welcomed and become close friends with the Waynes with Kal and Bruce growing up together. Then when the Waynes are killed in an attack they pass the rulership of the Kingdom on to the Els. Our main story then continues with Bruce and Kal as adults and a growing conflict between their kingdom and others that do not trust the Els such as the Kingdom of Storms (Black Lightnings family) and the Amazons. Lots of imaginatively but believably placed modern day characters acting out in this different setting. I often like elseworlds type stories but this one I feel has been done particularly well. It reminds me of the similar setting of Marvel's 1602, another favourite.
Thoth got two out of the three answers including the last so your turn next.

Yay! Thanks for the hints. I was working my way through characters with a dual role/ personality, when the penny dropped about all the Ra's stories with Demon in the title.
Glad you've got a title there you enjoy.
New Q shortly...

Not the posters and songs, although it is connected to the pop idol going on tour.

Some of the sound effects or visual effects on tour were used to hypnotize unsuspecting concert-goers?

Racking my brains on this one because I am pretty sure I read it a couple of years back. I think it is amongst the first few original Teen Titans appearances.

Not sound or visual effects. Holley was in full control of himself, while facilitating the crimes. While not sound or visual, it's something that you'd expect to see as part of a top pop tour.

While not sound or visual, it's something that you'd expect to see as part of a top pop tour. It was not a stunt double. It was not the techs. The roadies is close as someone would have to lug the crates of this around. Beraring in mind, this is the Mad Mod, what would he be likely to provide a touring pop star with?

That's it Ibby! The Mad Mod had taken over all of the costume changes needed by Holley while on tour. However, he had made sure all of the outfits contained contraband.
Over to you Ibby!

It's nearly 1983....in times square, the crowds wait for the globe to fall and the sign to announce the new year...but the sign doesn;t light up... why?

Nope. It was because of the actions of a single character.

It was not trigon. But it's someone closely connected.
