got it in one! I found it hilarious how people were crying in fear at Gates, but Gates and Ultra Boy thought they were crying tears of joy

What happened to the asteroid that the Ranzz family plantation had attempted to send a shipment of produce to?

It got teleported somewhere, so they rerouted the shipment?

I don't know that it got literally teleported, but it did somehow get moved from its expected location. But I'd expect the answer to include who was responsible for that.

As for the shipment, I don't know if the Ranzzes were able to successfully re-route it. Last I recall of that mini-plot point, Garth and Imra were trying to think of where else they could sell the stuff before it would go bad.

Wasn't there some weird coincidence with the asteroid part being reported to Cham and the shipment part to Garth and Imra? I think the asteroid was mistaken for something - an ore shipment? Cham was going to pay big reparations I think, although it sounded like still small cash for him.

stile remembers correctly! Someone at Brande Industries mistook the asteroid for their ore shipment and hauled it in, which was reported to CEO Cham and Marla Latham. And later, we see Garth and Imra wondering how the asteroid they were shipping to could have disappeared. Subtle inferences left to the reader to figure out is part of what I loved about the TMK era.

Great question CMK. Those early issues of 5YL had so many intriguing mysteries that so often dovetailed showing how much thought had been put in to the setting and circumstance.

What convinced batch SW6 to hook up with Jacques' rebel group?

Was it just that they realised they were in the wrong time period and needed someone who knew the local era to hang around with?

No. They were already hooked up with someone local.

Imra doing a mind-scan (much against her objections) raised their suspicions but wasn't the clincher.

No. Actually they tended to ignore Devlin's advice considering him a somewhat ignorant civilian.

Hmm. I can't remember exactly when this happened in the timeline but it was not the clincher for their decision.

Thinking it over it is possible that I am getting a bit confused with the order of events. Just a sec ....

OK I have checked and see where I was getting confused. I had in mind that they went straight from Universo's rebels to Foccart's rebels, whereas they actually avoided both for a short while.
So my original question would have been better worded as:

What convinced Batch SW6 to leave their association with Universo's rebel group?

But now I know the answer to my original question, and responding again to the suggestions: Not the time period, Imra played a part in the hookup but not what convinced Lyle the leader to take the step, Devlin continued to be largely ignored as annoying, and the two Valors were meeting in Earth orbit but the decision was made due to events on the ground.

So what convinced Batch SW6 to hook up with Jacque's rebels?

ooh wait I think I am having a memory!

Didn't Grinn do something really awful that drove them away? I seem to remember him sacrificing some pod victims to get at the Dominators or something along those lines?

I remember Grinn doing that, but if I recall the main consequence was Monica Sade kicking him out of the aircraft to his death... and it did lead to the deaths of SW6 Cham, Jeckie and Val! not sure if that drove the team away though... my memory is hazy smile

You both remember correctly that Grinn set the self-destruct on the chamber with the pods which also detonated numerous other chambers around the world, and Sade (the only one freed from the pods) did push out of the craft they were escaping in.

However, although the escape from the chambers was the first team-up of the SW6 Legion and Jacque's rebels which included the Subs, it doesn;t answer the question of why SW6 teamed up with them.

This is getting close - maybe close enough. Recognising the Subs probably played a part in their decision to team up, although this isn't specifically stated, but how did they know the Subs and Jacque's team were in the Chambers? Can anyone get closer?

And can anyone remember why they left Universo's rebels before this and strike out on their own?

was it because they caught Universo in a lie about what happened in the intervening time? and Jacques told them the truth?

No.
Hint: Earlier someone suggested Imra (much against her objections) did a mind scan that raised the group's suspicions about Universo, but it was something that turned up in their follow-up that led to their leaving his group.

Q2. Hint: How might SW6 wandering around underground discover something that led them to join up with and aid the Subs escape from the pods Chambers? Which legionnaire might have given them the clue which also enabled them to contact the Subs?

I remember Saturn Girl being appalled that Devlin would dare suggest she scan someone's mind without their consent laugh

Had they found Dirk yet and that's what pushed them? I remember Circe killed him and herself, but I don't know if the SW6 Legion were around for that?

That was after the big disaster with the explosion of the chambers and the destruction of the Moon. Dirk astonishingly appeared and was found by SW6 including duplicate Dirk. So after the events in question.

Close enough!
Q1: After Imra unhappily scanned Universo's mind and picked up something about the Dark Circle (which Lyle wondered about being that small obscure group), Lyle sent Cham on a snooping reconnaissance mission through Universo's rooms and found a Dark Circle mask. This decided the SW6 team to leave Universo and strike out on their own. We also learned that Universo did this on purpose because he had no intention of letting his "allies" the Dark Circle get their hands on SW6. Wheels within wheels.

Q2: As SW6 are back underground and debating their next move and Lyle and Devlin are arguing again about whether to hook up with Jacque's team, SW6 Brainy picks up a transmission between Jacque and the Subs team in the Chambers discussing their discoveries and how they are trapped. He shows it to Lyle who decides to join the conversation and proposes a plan for the SW6 Legion to help the Subs escape which they proceed to do quite successfully - only to lose three of their members when Grinn self-destructs the Chambers.

Your turn Ibby.
