Are we branching out into puns again?

Anyone in the mood for some songs by The Cars?

Despite being called The Cars, they're a bit transportationally challenged.
Who's going to drive you home tonight, would be a taxi.

One of Joni Mitchell's most famous songs is Big Yellow Taxi. Unfortunately, in recent decades it's been supplanted by that terrible cover version from Counting Crows.

Rik Ocasek and Eddie Money died within days of each other. I suspect this created massive confusion in reagtds to people getting home tonight.

We were stuck in Mexico City traffic for quite a while yesterday. Eventually, the bus let us off two blocks early cause things just stopped moving

Road Rage was a hit for Catatonia, sung by Cerys Matthews, who now hosts a decent music show.

They also had a hit titled Mulder & Scully. It cracks me up today to think how I deluded myself into believing I liked X-Files. I do still adore Gillian Anderson, though.

I find the X-Files extremely frustrating. I absolutely love some of the stand alone episodes (particularly the ones written by Darin Morgan), but pretty much anything dealing with the "mythology" I have no interest in at all.

Good points, EDE.

The main stumbling blocks for me are that 90s aesthetic and the smugness that overtook David Duchovny as his ego ballooned.

I was reading a lot of Fortean material at the time. But I never really watched it. Despite the crossover, I don't think I ever connected with the bits that they took to make a popular TV show.

They should have went with a series of Julian Cope Staring at Stones.

I suppose the other things about the X-Files is that conspiracy theories were kind of a fun as a diversion when I was a teenager in the 90s.

These days, when you've got way too many people taking them way too seriously, to the extent that it might actually be endangering civilization... well, not so much fun anymore.

I picked up a compilation of Fortean Times mags a couple of years back. It was from just before I started reading it back then. The historical and sociological insights were still just as interesting. How movements and theories are formed and developed as it happened, in some instances.

Yeah, things have changed.

Another problem I had with X-Files is that the monster-of-the-week episodes were just NOT FUN. They were dreary, gross, muddy-looking -- that whole 90s aesthetic I mentioned a few posts ago.

^^Which is why the Darin Morgan episodes are the best, because they do have a sense of fun and not taking themselves so completely seriously that is generally lacking from much of the series. Unfortunately that's only like four episodes in the original run, and two in the revival.

There must be at least one Legion fan in the crew for Criminal Minds.
