Oh, God! I hope that part of that is not true. Lagoon Boy? You have got to be f'in kidding me!! Secret? What are they trying to do...thankfully the YJ crap is far behind us and we do NOT need to go back to that embarassing time. BTW, who is Vulcan? Power Boy... Hooray!!! Hawk and Dove..Great!!! Cyorg is a natural leader for them but if this book is going to be succesful they need to rethink the line-up and get rid of stupid ideas and characters like Goon Boy and Secret...Yeesh, get real!!

Vulcan is the kid in the Son of Vulcan mini from about a year and a half ago. In it he is chosen to be the prior Vulcan's successor but that Vulcan perishes before he can begin the kids training and education on how everything in Vulcan's arsenal works. Vulcan was some sort of galactic defender (though I don't recall the details since I only managed to get one issue of the mini) I found this kid to be quite likeable so I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

Looks like Cyborg is reprising his role as mentor to a new batch of young heroes with tremndous power but little experience. Lagoon Boy in particular should be fun. (I've always liked this kid unlike the other posters above me. laugh ) I'm sure he'll play the comedian of the group a la Gar in his early days on the TT.

Not sure how Power Boy fits into this since he was shown to be a super powerful stalker in Supergirl. He seemed likeable enough (and great looking) but turned into a domineering, abusive a**hole.

There is some promo art (possibly the issue's cover) posted at CBR. It's the bottom left image. Perhaps "someone" can post a version here before I get a moment to do so. If not, I'll get one posted a little later laugh

Until then, click on the link below.

BTW, there is no indication who the mystery girl is. I guess it could be Secret but I don't get the feeling that it is. Might just be someone new. I would have thought the new Terra (introduced in Supergirl about 6 months ago) would have made sense for this group but that doesn't look at all like here.

Yay Lagoon Boy! He was so cute in YJ (which I loved wink ) and neat in that old Aquaman series. Him and Cyborg are really the only people I'm interested in here (unless that girl is Greta, which would be rather shocking as she was given the gift of "life" at the end of YJ and therefore shouldn't have powers anymore) but I'm curious to see what'll happen with them all. I really grew to love Vic when he was part of the Flash supporting cast (years ago), so yay! I like him leading. I like him in general, really.

Very curious. Will definitely be checking this out. smile I just hope Hawk and Dove become more dynamic. They have so much potential but.. they've been poorly used, IMHO, and underdeveloped. I mean, wasn't Dove dead for a while..? Where did her sister come from, anyway? Etc. etc.

Well, I'll check it out, although this was not the Titans team I was hoping for...

I'll definately check this out, though Judd Winick writing it is more of a *groan* than a plus.

I like the line-up generally, with the exception of Power Boy. The character seems annoying and redundant--I vote him for the next Titan to die in 2008 tongue .

It wouldn't make sense for it to be Secret. In fact, really only Empress is the last YJ character that would make sense using, but even that is a stretch (she has two babies to take care of). Basically, PAD made it very difficult to use his YJ girls, and I'm glad he did.

The character really looks like Supergirl. Hopefully, there's no relation!

Yay to Son of Vulcan!

Hooray! That could be secret...She looks somewhat like her, only less gassy (heh...Gassy), which would make sense what with the re-lifing and all. Technically she wouldnt NEED powers to be a Titan...Unless she was one of the Everyman candidates that mysteriously retained her powers. Though if they name her "Mystery" heads will roll.
I want the Wiley and Sasha H&D back *pouts*
Also, Power Boy needs a cape.

Remember : It's not technically a suckerpunch if you yell ''DEFEND YOURSELF SPROCKER!'' two seconds before you let him have it.

Someone on the Comic Bloc boards is claiming to have inside knowledge that the blonde girl is Anima. I don't remember a thing about her.

Being that she was the Titans' contribution to the Bloodlines Annuals...I'd say she has about a 1 in a million chance of making it out of "Final Crisis" alive (if it is her).

I have all of her appearances and actually kind of liked her when they finally gave her a decent artist and a consistent looking armor.

New Titans Annual #9

Nice to see Anima back. I also am a fan of hers. Now I like the cute long haired blond as much as the next guy BUT I was hoping this girl would keep her rebel/punk look. Wonder Girl/Supergirl/Miss Martian all have the hot look down.

at some point soon...

Oh, and whenever I see Anima's name, I find myself singing it in my head to the chorus of Van Halen's "Panama"...

The 'new' line-up looks pretty familiar to fans of the Perez/Wolfman launch. smile

Pity they bumped off Terra again, it would have created some interesting tension to see her back with the gang.

Not that I object to that line up but confused

Why in the world do you produce a Titans East one shot with Cyborg leading a new team of youngsters and then start a Titans East series with only Cyborg carrying over?

Makes no sense whatsoever!

I think the Titans East are probably going to be training those younger guys.

I'm excited about the lineup they revealed.

Because you're planning on killing all the youngsters in the special to add pathos to the series... wink

Yeah, they're worried about falling behind the New X-Men in the 'teen hero-killing' sweepstakes.

I'm exciting about the lineup, but I really can't say I'm excited to have Winnick writing it. I've tried a few of his series now, and I can't say that I've really enjoyed any of them.

I guess it can't be any worse than the Grayson/Faerber era (knock wood).

WTF! I should have known better than to buy this when I realized that it says on the cover "Who Will Die!"

Guess what no one dies....they ALL do! Power Boy gets impaled by a tree limb through the chest. Little Barda, Lagoon Boy, Son of Vulcan, Hawk, Dove and Anima all get shot through the torso with what appears to be red bolts of energy. Cyborg gets an blown to bits and ends up in pieces in a crater.

mad

I am so f*cking tired of having to read dreck written by hacks who apparently can't come up with a single creative idea and must resort to slaughtering kids in order to sell a story!

Yes you heard me...save your money. They all die!!! Except Cyborg who seemingly gets blown to bits but I'm sure he gets rebuilt like he has a dozen times in the past.

mad

I knew PB was going to bite it, for no other reason than he claims to be a New God and things aren't going well for them right about now in DC land. The rest of the ending was dreck. Pure Winick dreck.

Enough with the death of the Titans already. We get it... maybe leave one or two so they can be killed during Final Crisis?

Can no one think of a better reason for the original Titans to regroup than by slaughtering a bunch of other heroes? I'm not surprised, but I'm very disappointed.

Glad I read the spoilers.

Fucking ridiculous. Really...just outrageous. I won't get this either.

You know what? I'm beginning to loathe DC Comics. Not quite all the way there yet...but I'm starting to.

Outrageous. I can go on and on (Hawk & Dove just created! Etc., etc.). The worst part is it doesn't even hit me where it should--I'm not upset for the characters, I'm annoyed at Dan Didio, Judd Winick and real life people. Considering we've already seen this from DC...oh, 50 different times in the last five years?

DC Comics today reminds me of Marvel of 1989 and Image Comics of 1992. Maybe worse?

Didn't Winnick also write Graduation Day? If so then he's just carrying on his fine tradition of writing rubbish stories that are apparently just done to kill off Titans.

Now kids, lets calm down a bit.

Yeah, Power Boy bit it big time. But are we really sure that Hawk and Dove, Lagoon Boy, Lil Barda, Son of Vulcan, and Anima REALLY ARE DEAD? Yes, they did get shot with some sort of energy beam, but that doesn't mean they are dead. Lets see what happens.

Exactly, Quis. They were off hand characters, no one was using them. I think both Marvel and DC are too populated right now, so some culling is fine by me.

No, no, I mean the question seriously.

I read the Son of Vulcan mini (and liked it) I knew about the female Hawk & Dove (really knew the female Dove from the Hawk & Dove series). I knew Power Boy from Supergirl. I knew Anima (even if I never had read her series). I knew Lagoon Boy came from the cartoon Titans.

But where did Lil Barda come from?

But where did Lil Barda come from?
Lagoon Boy came from Erik Larsen's stint on AQUAMAN. Lil Barda (along with Power Boy) is a previously unknown New God who joined the Titans during the 1 year gap. They quit during 52.

She's visually based on Aria, the daughter of Mr. Miracle and Big Barda from Kingdome Come. But, they never had a child in normal continuity that we know of.

Ah, I thought she might have been one of the One Year Gap Titans.

Wow, and I was looking forward to reading about adventures with an all-new team. I love all-new (to me) teams, like the Power Company or Young Avengers.

Thanks for the warning Vee! Saved me $4 and a raging case of being pissed-off.

Well we've got the JLA, the JSA, the JLA's Outsiders, the Teen Titans, the Shadowpact, the Global Guardians, and Checkmate. With that many teams running around, what do we need another team for? Whether it's the original Titans or a new team of teen heroes...

Whenever there's a crisis (little "c") we get so many heroes, it's like they could form their own city.

Sorry CJ but I don't agree with that reasoning. Just because we may have too many teams at the moment (and I'm not sure I agree about that either) is no excuse to kill them off.

Just leave them alone until someone wants to use them someday down the road. Using your reasoning, all of Shadowpact should have been killed off. After all, they're really all "C" list heroes that no one cared about...until Shadowpact.

For some reason (I put the blame squarely on Didio) DC has decided that blood and death are the only things that sell comics. They are very wrong IMO.

That's my reason for wanting the JSA to go back to Earth-2. And the Shazam universe existing.

Yeah we have multiple Earths now, but will they be used?

I also agree with Vee. There's no need to "kill" a character just to kill a character.

I actually, like Quis, would prefer if the Freedom Fighters, SHAZAM family and JSA were on seperate Earths now.

But by your reasoning CJ, you know you're only asking for Conner Hawke, Kyle Rayner and other of those 90's heroes (who I know you're a fan of) to be killed off. When you look at DC from an editorial standpoint and think the heroes need to be 'culled a bit', you know the first victims will be the 'replacement heroes'. Ollie Queen and Hal Jordan are Green Arrow and Green Lantern. For ten years they weren't. But I always knew they'd be back, even then, when I was 15. Its too late to change that now. But by thinking along the lines of killing some of DC heroes to open up some room, you'll leave certain characters extremely vulnerable. I can see Conner dying and staying dead. I know almost certainly that Ollie will not. I'd rather neither died.

Am I a major fan of Lagoon Boy? No, but I know a poster who is. I do like Anima. I liked Hawk & Dove too. I just find this style of story-telling somewhat sickening.

Vu, you might be right and they aren't all dead. But Winnick and Didio's track records do not work in their favors. I'd rather not give them the chance and tar and feather the bastards laugh . I gave them too many chances already since Graduation Day.

So, I just read 'Titans East' by Judd Winick. Isn't he special! He truly is a special, special writer.

He has so got his finger on the pulse of what Titans readers want these days. More dead members! God knows we haven't seen enough of that lately.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he has now written a grand total of two Titans stories and between them has killed off 9 heroes. Yay for him! That's more characters than most writers have invented for this team but as the wonderful Judd Winick knows - there are no bad writers, only bad characters... or something like that.

But hey - killing Titans is his trick and when Winick finds a trick he rides it. Some might say "into the ground" but I'm sure the great Judd Winick doesn't let silly things like loud and frequent opposition to his work get in the way of his vision.

Just like he doesn't let silly things like characterisation or history get in the way of his stories either. And by "stories" I just mean "fighting". That's all that comics are good for these days anyway, right? Thank God for Judd Winick for realising that. 'Graduation Day' was 3 issues of non-stop fighting and look how great that book was. Why wouldn't he make 'Titans East' just one long issue of the same thing?

Only someone as talented as Judd Winick could release a book as long as 'Titans East' is and give readers the impression that it was written in 10 minutes!

Only someone as caring as Judd Winick could write respectful and character-building stories about his favourite Titans characters (and screw anyone who's not one of his favourite characters)!

Only someone with the proven track-record of Judd Winick should be entrusted with the authorship of probably one of the most requested and anticipated ongoing books in Titans history!

Only Judd Winick for President of DC Comics and then the world!

Paraphrasing from what Judd Winick wrote so wonderfully and un-cheesily in this most recent issue!

"Titans and Judd Winick!
Together Nev--- er... Forever!"

TITANS/YJ: GRADUATION DAY is the reason I didn't order the TTE special, even though it was a 50% off special from my online sub service.

Fool me once, Judd, shame on you. Fool me twice, well... I wasn't buying it. Now, I'm glad. sigh

I am not sure about the others death...I am sure that many of them will be resurrected or come back by another writer (not Judd!!! - he never brought anyone back alive to my best recall memory) Too bad for Power Boy - he was killed by the God Killer who killed Big Barda, Lightray, Fastbak, Deep Six, Black Racer, Knockout, etc. As for others, I am sure that they will be back - badder and better. *finger crossing*

I will not buy any books written by Judd Winick! at all (including the Trails of Shazam!) mad

I'm not for random senseless slaughter ala Titans East. That seemed pointless, doesn't drive a story. However, I thought Gradutation Day was a worthy story, it set up for TT and Outsiders.

These characters throw themselves into battle with villains. A few of them should fall now and again. It's getting harder and harder to enjoy an adventure when I KNOW Batman won't die. I was reading Ollie's book when Dixon offed him the first time. While I was sad, I accepted his replacement and became a fan. If characters didn't die, you wouldn't have the new Hawk & Dove, Cobie.

If Quis' idea came to fruition, I'd be all over it. Space the heroes out, give them room and purpose.

So, as someone who will never otherwise learn about this, who is/was Anima? I presume that this is the flying blonde in lavender studded leather?

And who was the dude with the pouches, flaming sword and 'V' motif?

I recognize Lagoon Boy, Hawk v4, Dove v3, Cyborg and Power Boy, but those other two I've never seen before. I was gonna get the book, because the art looked really good, and I always enjoy new teams, but obviously this isn't gonna be one...

anima is straight up 1990s at it's finest. she came out of the Bloodlines Annuals and got her own series after Zero Hour. She has animal powers? or is the spirit of animals? or something. when she debuted, she was like a punk rock chick with weird green eyes. basically she was put on the team b/c she hasn't been used in about 12 years...

the other guy is Son of Vulcan. i don't know anything about him

I read it this morning and did not like it at all. The art was pretty and the dumb man in me really liked the half naked chicks. But the angel on my right shoulder (or is it left?) said these poor girls were getting taken advantage of.

Is this DCU New Earth or another earth? I hated all those kids dying.

Against my better judgement, I picked it up. I'm kinda wondering why Churchill decided to redesign the Titans' costumes in the flashback. I mean, it's not like their costumes ever looked like that back then (Wonder Girl and Kid Flash, mostly).

I'm also wondering if Hawk has nipples, because if she does they must be tiny, considering her hair placement in the shower scene. Sadly, wondering about that was as close to interested as I felt reading this book.

I'm not feeling very optimistic for the relaunch. I fear it's going to feel more like the Grayson/Faerber Titans than the Wolfman/Perez Titans frown

Like many others before me, despite warnings... I skimmed. I only skimmed (but not more) because my boy Wally was in it and I am nothing if not a fangirl. Now, I may no longer be a fangirl. Only time will tell.

Seriously though. That was the most pointless massacre of characters to force characters into a series that are no longer in places in their evolution where they really belong together. It's like the frigging Titans series all over again but worse. So much worse.

Honestly, if people are so obsessed with throwing this same team together time and time again-- and it's fine if they are, everyone's got their thing, right?-- they may as well do something like (excuse the Marvel references) X-Men: First Class or the Marvel Adventures titles.

Seriously. There is just no reason. I mean, the man even went to lengths to point out how the old Titans do not want to get together on a team. I just... I... gah!! As Homer S. would say, "Urge... to kill... rising..."

Oh, wait. They already did that. mad mad mad

One point of order - if you look closely at the art Dove was only hit in the shoulder by the beam, so it's very likely that she survives.

Also as tight as Winnick and Johns seem to be, I would be surprised if Winnick would knock off Dove after all of the hard work Johns did in JSA a few years ago to bring her back.

Despite my rantings of a page ago I don't actually think any of those Titans are really dead. (Other than Power Boy, obviously.)

No, I haven't drunk the Judd Winick Kool-Aid...

It's just that IMO there is no way, when given the opportunity to kill some heroes, that Judd Winick and Dan (impale Phantom Lady, punch out Terra's heart, decapitate Pantha, bi-sect Bushido, stick two fingers through Psycho Pirate's face) Didio would ever kill them off as cleanly and unmessily as they did here. Instead of the quick zap! zap! zap! we got they would've had their brains and blood flying all over the place.

The other reason is that Judd Winick just ended his Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding Special on the exact same sort of cliff-hanger and well, we've already seen that this man just doesn't have that many stories in his bag of tricks - so since Green Arrow popped up alive before the end of his first issue, don't be surprised if these Titans do too.

Hmmm... if that *is* the case, I might end up regretting putting the TITANS EAST 1-shot back on the shelf after I picked up my pull last week...

I really do expect TITANS to become sort of the JSA for younger heroes.

It really is fun passing this book on to others and watching their reactions. Give Winnick credit- he has readers excited by the team right up until the slaughter. I've recruited 2 new comic book readers using the book.
