My favorite filmmaker used to be Michael Mann, but after last year's disastrous Miami Vice movie, I've finally had to admit to myself that he really hasn't made a good movie since Heat, 12 years ago.
But at least I'll always have Mann's Last of the Mohicans (my favorite movie of all time), Manhunter, and the aforementioned Heat.

Last of the Mohicans not only was an awesome movie, it has perhaps the greatest theme song/soundtrack out of any movie I've ever heard. When I listen to it, I work out harder, focus better and generally am inspired.
PS - Dodger sure was cute in that movie Joey! Saw it coming too though...

I totally feel the same about the Last of the Mohicans theme song. It goes through my mind whenever I'm writing a scene that's grandiose and sweeping.
