I once said to a Brazilian friend, "Isn't it funny that the middle part of 'life' is 'if'?"

He said, "Only in English."

I'm finally watching Heroes Season 2 via a DVD season. Watching them all in a row (at about 6 episodes at a clip), I'm reacting quite positively to Season 2. Many of the complaints I recall are kind of mitigated when there is no long wait between episodes (re: plots dragging along).

My niece, whose birthday I forgot, called me today, and since her mother forgot my birthday, I figure it's a draw.

I ended up getting free Broadway tickets for Thursday because a client can't make it to New York, and then one of our friends gave us free off-Broadway tickets (basically the same thing) for tonight because she had extra. So suddenly, I'm going to to shows in NYC tonight and tomorrow for free!

Neither show is one I would have gone to see on my own: Rock of Ages and Mama Mia, but what the hell, I'm always up for a trip to Broadway.

October 22 was designated International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) in 1998. The day is intended to raise the public awareness of the millions of people who have the speech disorder of stuttering, including over 3 million Americans.

ISAD is organised by four organizations:

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Special Interest Division #4, Fluency & Fluency Disorders
European League of Stuttering Associations
International Fluency Association
International Stuttering Association
ISAD has includes an online conference, targeted at people with an interest in stuttering, as well as speech-language pathologists and their clients.

Increasing awareness of stuttering can lead to early intervention, so that young children can receive treatment to achieve a level of speech that doesn't require conscious management.

In 2007, Central Michigan University expanded the day into Stuttering Awareness Week, which extended for a week after 22 October.

Although many locales do not have support groups, there are resources for stutterers online and cooperative education groups that work with schools.

LOL throught this whole page!

My fourth grand-daughter by my youngest son is due in January!
Gads.

Madelyn, Kindra, Jenna and possibly, Ella ~ that's just their first names, of course.
Their mom, Michelle, is Catholic so they all have three names plus their last names ~ Ames.
I just remember the first ones.
And Ames.

My oldest son has a boy and a girl ~ Courtney and Austin.
That'd be Ames, too.

My last name is Ames-Svitak now.
Well, really Crosby-Ames-Svitak.

I think I've found my home thread!
LOL

They started a new page with my reply so my first sentence doesn't make much sense!
smile

Pomagranits (I wish I could spell) are a strange and expensive ($3.50 ea) fruit.
Work intensive and mild tasting with a large seed in each small module.
I had a handful in my oatmeal today.
Not bad but raisins are better and cheaper.

Today is Retrocession Day in Taiwan.

Retrocession Day (光復節) is an annual observance in Taiwan to commemorate the end of 50 years of Japanese colonial rule on October 25, 1945.

Chen Yi (right) accepting the surrender of General Rikichi Andō (left), the last Japanese Governor-General of Taiwan, in Taipei City Hall.
Celebrating Taiwan's retrocession following Japan's defeat in WW2.Taiwan, then more commonly known as Formosa, became a colony of the Empire of Japan when Qing China lost the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894 and ceded the island with the signing of the 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki. Taiwan under Japanese rule lasted till the end of World War II.

When the Japanese surrendered at the end of World War II, General Rikichi Andō (安藤 利吉), governor-general of Taiwan and commander-in-chief of all Japanese forces on the island, signed an instrument of surrender and handed it over to General Chen Yi (陳儀) of the Kuomintang military to complete the official turnover in Taipei on October 25, 1945. Chen Yi proclaimed that day to be "Retrocession Day of Taiwan". Taiwan has been governed by the Republic of China since.

Retrocession Day is currently not an official public holiday in the Republic of China, yet popular memorial activities are held and families hang the national flag every year on this day. The Democratic Progressive Party, which rejects the idea of Taiwan being taken back by China, had downplayed the event during their two recent terms of Republic of China rule

My cousin's wife (I guess that makes her my cousin-in-law) is pregnant with her second child. Unfortunately, she's alergic to the pregnancy hormone and has been sick every day since mid September.
