I always have wanted to go to Australia.

You are time traveling into the past. While there, you meet a person and become friends with him/her. Later you realize that this person will be horribly murdered, but you know also that because of this person's murder, the world became a better place.

Do you let this person be murdered as history says or do you save him/her and change history and the world, possibly for the worse?

Edith Keeler aside, it's difficult to imagine anyone's death benefiting the world as a whole, although the deaths of some do motivate others to take positive action that benefits society (John Walsh, for example). Even so, it's pure speculation to say that, if anyone had lived or died, the world would be a better place.

So, I'm leaning toward saving the person although there are many other factors to consider. For example, by changing history, how would I change the world I came from and could I get back to it? (Yes, it's a selfish motivation but it's real.)

So, I guess my answer is . . . maybe.

If you could go back in time and bring one artifact from the past back with you into the present, what would it be? (Action Comics # 1 or any other collector's item comic is disqualified.)

Even if I did bring back an Action #1, people would say that it is a fake because it hasn't aged.

I would go back and get the papers of Sir Richard Burton (the explorer) before his wife burnt them after his death.

Blaze and I did, twice. It was funny because the other couple kept describing how they are when they fight, and we couldn't think of any times when we did! Not seriously, anyway - our longest fights last only a few minutes. Made us much happier with our relationship.

Most romantic date you've ever been on?

Not long after we started going out, I took the future mr_cleome to the Portland Ballet to see a rock version of Carmina Burana called Revenge Poems . (I had free tickets from a local art rag that I sometimes wrote and drew for.) Yes, we got all dressed up and did the swank bar thing afterwards... the works. w00t!

Luckily, my love life didn't turn out like the end of the ballet.

Nope. In fact, my brother and I are just the opposite of what we're supposed to be. He's the younger and more the A-type.

Well my family structure is kind of unique. My sister is 17 years older than me, my oldest brother is 14 years older than me, and my other brother is 7 years older than me. My first memory of my sister is of her coming home from college. My older brother also left home fairly soon in my memory. And while I remember playing board games with my other brother (and him teasing me) the age difference meant he had his friends and I had mine.

So in a way, I (also being the baby of the family) had brothers & sisters, but was also an only child. I also think I had different parents than my sister had.

But as far as having an influence on my personality, I don't think so. I actually have a hard time picturing myself as being any other way than I am.

Has any book or movie changed your outlook on life? And if so, which book or movie?

If I could expand this question to include a TV series, I'll say "Babylon 5" changed how I view two things. One, though I'm a believer in nonviolence and pacifism, it showed me (in a grandly metaphorical way) that sometimes war simply cannot be avoided. Two, it ruined science fiction television for me. B5 showed me what you can really do with series television if you treat the story line as a novel, something most TV creators will never do.

These are such fun questions I can't improve on them, so . . .

What's the overall best bar you've been in?

probably the Tinker Street Cafe in Woodstock, NY. Not there anymore, alas. Great place (atmosphere, food, drinks), great people (staff and patrons), fantastic live music most night of the week (often including pro musicians, people who had been members of name bands, or did studio work alongside some of the greats).

It was the sort of place you could go as a complete stranger and leave having made a bunch of friends. And they served me when I was underage.

What was the overall best restaurant you've been to?

My main criterion is value for money. I don't care if the food is not sublime, as long as I feel it's good enough for the amount I paid.

There's this chain of fastfood dimsum meals called Pao Tsin. For a little less than a dollar I can get four pieces of delicious dimsum with this wonderful sweet and sour and spicy sauce. For about 2 dollars I can get enough food to fill me up from lunch to dinner!

I've had better foood of course, but this is still the best value for money I've ever had.

If you had to stay in one city for the next ten years (as in you can't leave no matter what), and conversely, all your living expenses for the next 10 years would be taken care of, which city would that be?

So many cities to choose from. Rome, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Milan, Hoboken NJ.

I would choose London. For one, I would not have to learn a different language. Two, I think there is enough history there to suit me.

The microwave oven. It has promoted and enabled the deterioration of our food. Just my personal, massively outvoted opinion.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but: Leaf Blowers. Noisy, wasteful, and astoundingly inefficient. Also illogical. A vacuum cleaner designed for outdoor debris would make much more sense. In the meantime, pick up a rake or a push broom already!

What dream invention would solve a current problem that bothers you on a daily basis?

Star Trek transporters. That way, we could get to work without cars breaking down or high gas prices.
