The best analogy I've heard, which is not completely accurate either, is to compare the Mayan calendar to a table of the dates of Easter Day as might be found in an almanac or prayer book. There is a last year listed on that table, but the intent of the person who made up the table is not to say that Easter will never be celebrated after that date. Getting us back on topic, this is my 12,709th post.
