I don't know much about the actual Trommian religion, but it seems to me that it is, in part, somewhat like Buddhism in that it stresses the impermanence of material things (or physical states of things, at any rate). As well--if Jan is a representative adherent of his faith--Trommian religion, like Buddhism, seems to favour tranquility and the pursuit of deep spiritual meditation.

If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

It seems to me that the basic tenet is that change is the only constant, and that all things are at a basic level, all other things, meaning that no one thing is any more or less meaningful than any other.

A sort of 'we are all made of stars' religion, in that the material cast off from stellar formation creates worlds and all the life that later crops up upon them, with the Tromnian being the person who can waggle his fingers and turn you back into dust, reinforcing that notion.

It's important to know that Tromians didn't celebrate or worship *all* change, at least in the original telling.

Tromians that effected transformations that hurt or killed living things were subject to ostracism, at the least. This was illustrated by parables or fables.

In addition, the uses of their power were valued when utilized to create beauty.

The reboot's where the worship of change really came into play. The first glimpses of Tromians in their normal life we ever saw occurred early in the reboot. We saw circles of children surrounding teachers outdoors, reminding me of the Aristotlean philosophy of an ideal society.

Young Jan and his proclamations seem to be the source of much of the religion and change linkage. I think that his very adolescent understanding colors what must have been more complex.

Current boot? Who knows? We don't even know for sure whether or not Trom is still occupied. Apparently, Tromians in this boot have some sort of incentive or destiny-drive to witness events leading to galactic change.

The 'I like to be naked' line and Jan's defense of Nura's 'dead' body add to some spiritual vibe associated with the character. It's possible that this points to Trom as a new-agey sort of planet. We really haven't seen enought to know that, though.

Another interesting point is that preboot, at least, Trommians didn't have any marriage customs.

Also, according to the reboot version death is seen as the ultimate change.

Isn't the Superboy's Legion version actually a monk of some sort? It's been awhile since I've read it.

At least in the memory of a very young, emotionally shell-shocked Tromian.

Yeah, and the Camelot version is a priest of some kind.
