30 years before I was born, give or take a few days, the late film producer Julia Phillips was born. In addition to producing The Sting, Taxi Driver, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, she also ripped away Hollywood's civilized facade and revealed the corruption, sleaze, and betrayal underneath, in her book, "You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again." For saving many a sensitive soul, including myself, from making a mistake and going to Hollywood, her memory deserves respect.

All my shoes are either black or brown.

When I was a kid I hated the word "wholesome". Maybe I just heard it used to described Hostess Twinkies and Cup Cakes in commercials one too many times. The mother would chastise her kids for some small infractions and then say how "fresh, wholesome Hostess" met her "tough standards" for her children's snacks. Her "tough standards" were "not overtly poisonous", it would seem.

An hour and a half is the time it takes to brush out and untangle the fur of an overbred, overpriced, health-challenged miniature collie-thing (and clean the excess fur off of one's clothing afterwards).

Ugh. Next dog? Chihuahua. Self-cleaning and easy to bury in the backyard if it gets annoying...

I only have one winter coat and one spring jacket.

At the doctor's office yesterday, I discovered that my weight has dropped below the 180 lb. mark for the first time in about 300 years.

And I don't live in Brigadoon, though I did visit there the last time it appeared in our reality. Quaint Scottish village. They still think it's 1787 there and were completely perplexed by my cell phone and laptop.
