Today I proved to myself that I still cannot function with only four hours sleep!
It's been a long time since I did that. DreamGirl

The weather is gloomy but no rain, thus far. To take a bike ride, or not...? I can't decide.

hmmm

Yesterday, we walked our neighbors' Pit Bull mix, and then drove him to a "pet motel" for them while they were out of town unexpectedly. A really sweet dog, and the trip went of without a hitch. But the cats were sniffing mr_cleome and myself very suspiciously when we got home from our errand.

There is a stained glass window in my church that depicts the Adoration of the Magi. From just the right angle, one of the Magi (Balthazar, I think) bears a passing resemblance to a Dominator.

I had the following exchange with a library patron today:

She: "Why is my book due on a Saturday? Today is Friday."

I: "We're closed two weeks from today, so it's due the following day."

She: "Why are you closed?"

I: "November 11th is Veteran's Day."

She: "What does that mean in English?"

I: "It's the day we remember those who have served in the military."

She: "I remember people who have served in the military every day!"

cheers

My nephew, who's 11 years old, came up to me the other day and told me that his clip-on ties "suck" and that he wanted me to show him how to make a real tie!

Who says all kids care about these days is video games and smartphones? smile

The Sesame Street segment "J Friends" is a tribute to four of the people who were behind the show: Joe (Raposo), Jane (Henson), Jim (Henson) and Joan (Ganz Cooney).

If Lou Reed had fronted The Climax Blues Band, it would've sounded a little like this .

Adult newts have lizard-like bodies and may be either fully aquatic, living permanently in the water, or semi-aquatic, living terrestrially but returning to the water each year to breed.

Lambert Gardens was a local tourist attraction, torn down to make way for apartment complexes in the late 1960s.

Most natural diamonds are formed at high-pressure high-temperature conditions existing at depths of 140 to 190 kilometers (87 to 120 mi) in the Earth mantle.
Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to 3.3 billion years (25% to 75% of the age of the Earth).

Samson was granted supernatural strength by God in order to combat his enemies and perform heroic feats such as wrestling a lion, slaying an entire army with only the jawbone of an ass, and destroying a pagan temple.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to a sit-in. Foul weather be damned. I'll bundle up.

(After reading Frank Miller's moronic blather about Occupy, I'm tempted to carry a sign that specifically thanks him.)

Originally, the term gingerbread (from Latin zingiber via Old French gingebras) referred to preserved ginger.
It then referred to a confection made with honey and spices. Gingerbread is often used to translate the French term pain d'épices (literally "spice bread") or the German term Lebkuchen.

Since the jazz station is celebrating the day after Thanksgiving by playing music by Native American artists, here's the most famous of them all: Jim Pepper (1941-1992), saxophonist and vocalist, playing his most famous number. It was adapted from a peyote chant.

Witchi Tai To .

Pepper was born in Salem, and lived and played in this region for years. By the time I was starting to seriously discover his work, he had passed on. I got to attend a huge jam session/wake for him at a club downtown, though. I still have several half-assed sketches of the attending musicians stashed in my garage somewhere.
