Not saying it's new, but reading Keith's comment (below), it occurred to me that I never think about the letterers on the comics we read. Some of you who do your own comics have indicated that it's certainly more challenging than just writing the dialogue into balloons!
I didn't know Bill (Oakley) that well, we had only talked a few times over the years but he lettered many of the books that I've inked. He was truly talented, one of the great letterers, and the fact that my first story was lettered by Bill Oakley...that's something I can be proud of for the rest of my career.
Also, I think Keith does himself a disservice by saying that he could have written a shoddy story and we fans would have been so happy to see Lightle artwork that we'd ignore that. Now this may have been his way of praising Steve Lightle, but certainly we expect a lot more of writers than that! From what I've read in the comments so far on #34, Keith delivers the goods, so it just seemed to me like he was putting himself down.
