We (Scott and I) are extremely sorry for what has happened. Our server crashed and all of the websites that it serviced were wiped out. Unfortunately, our last back up was August 12th/13th. Every single post after that has been lost. Forever. Again, sorry.

We appreciate your patience and understanding of the situation. Hopefully, we can all continue from here.

Please notify me here on this thread or by PM of any difficulties that you may be experiencing. I had to totally rebuild this place from scratch and chances are I missed something somewhere.

There's nothing to be done for that, so I vote we just jump back in with both feet and make up for lost posts and time.

You guys take all that time, and make all that effort, just to give me, a person you have never met, a free place to play with others who share an interest in one of my very favorite things in all the world.... and you think I might bitch?

No biggie. DC's Boards are coming up "does not exist" today, so THEIR server may have crashed, too. But more likely, it's just one more of countless glitches. For a year-and-a-half I enjoyed myself there, but since they redesigned their boards, things have gone to heck.

Rob's own boards have not been much better lately. The last couple weeks, NOTHING of interest seems to be going on there AT ALL...

But then, I need to be spending more time getting "work" done ANYWAY...!

I also need to announce that only Moderators and/or Founders will be allowed to make new polls for the time being. Some of you already know the reason for this. Icefire, Reep or anyone else who wants to make or remake a poll will need to ask me first. However, we'd like to clean out that forum before beginning anything new. I'll post more about this later on.

We're only missing items from early morning 13 August to mid-morning 17 August, it appears, just four days, as the boards have been off line since then. Not bad, really.

Hi gang! I'm finally here but it won't be for long as I need to get going soon. Just wanted everyone to know that it looks like we'll be okay for the time being. We forgot to take out a test file and that may have caused the latest outage. Other than that I have (hopefull) put some precautions in that will stop those damn spiders from crashing our site. If I didn't have arachnaphobia before, I do now!

Just please be gentle with the place. But have fun by all means!

If there were any other special Avatars in the last week that anyone has asked me to load, please either post here or send me a PM so that I can add them again. I don't think Gary would have them but at least I save all my images for this place separately.

Thanks Jeff, and everyone else, for your comments. But Gary does truly deserve the lion's share of the credit. I was stuck at work and other places and not able to access the site until the last half an hour. I was able to take care of the last downtime problem (hopefully). But it still remains to be seen if I can access from work. If I cannot, you all will noticed a marked difference in my time spent here. At least from work I can keep a browser window open and periodically check in. At least I was able to up until today. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.

I don't know if I'll be able to make up my almost 200 missing posts. But I'll sure as hell try!

And I do remember my exact post for #1602 so that one will be easy to recreate.

Has ANYone seen the DCMB's lately... say the last two days, or so??? I click on my shortcut and immediately get a "Page Not Found". So if the great TimeWarner can't keep their site up n' running, you guys have nothing to apologize for with the way you're running this one!

Pov I missed you!!!!!(hugs) The boards cannot be accessed by a shortcut you have to go to the Dc comics site and then go to Message Boards

Actually, a shortcut will work, you just need to either create a new shortcut or edit your old one to point to the following URL:

http://dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/categories.jsp?cat=DC+Comics

They did some board tweaking the other day, and the result seems to be some new URLs (among other things).

I'd like to add to the round of thanks to Gary for his dedication. I can't imagine the work that went into putting this place back together, but it's very much appreciated!

I kinda feel like we just went through one of those "new HQ" storylines that the Legion has gone through several times.

So was Brainy cooking up something that went out of hand that demolished the old HQ? Or maybe the Time Trapper threw us all ten days into the past...

Sorry, the board opened up before I was done making changes. Now I'm going around putting things back to the way they were.

So, I'm announcing right now that the board will be closed tonight/tomorrow morning at around 6AM EST time or 4AM board time for about 15 minutes! You've been warned!

What a relief... I thought I'd screwed something up by being signed in both here and at home! Though that's nothing new, really, but as you said, you're constantly making changes.

Okay. So here's what happened last night I made a couple more modifications to our test site, successfully. So, since they work over there I decided to use the modified (and only the modified) program files from there and replace the ones over here. The only difference between the two boards (and I forgot this at the time) is where the "Members" directory is located.

When the new program files tried to find your information, it was looking in the wrong place. I tried to replace the modified files but it was too late. Too many people were trying to access stuff at the wrong places and things got out of hand. I had to replace everything and start from scratch. Sorry.

No data was lost except for the contents islands and Kid Prime's Megamod status.

I think I should change my user name to Brainiac 5.

Just give us some warning next time before you blow up the lab will ya!

Obvious Question #165 - Why did you put the Members directory in a different place @ the test site in the first place if it was going to make it harder to... well... test?

Because you're supposed to place it above the root directory that your board exists in. But, since the test board is at a free site, I don't have access above the root directory and therefore I placed it within the folders of the board which is the less-desired alternative.

Sorry for the mini-outage everyone. Gary was trying to add a new fix and it didn't go quite well. I was finally able to get in and replace the file and make the changes. We should be back and no posts lost.
