Each round, one classic 80s song will go up against another and WE determine the victor! The game continues as long as there is interest! New rounds daily (or so).
ROUND ONE
GHOSTBUSTERS by Ray Parker, Jr
vs.
I WANT A NEW DRUG by Huey Lewis & The News

Both songs are pretty crappy, but I'm going to give this one to Huey Lewis & the News for 2 reasons.
a) It was the original that Ghostbusters (illegally) sampled from
b) The video features Huey lookin' pretty hot in his boxers

Huey, definitely. I don't want to get sued or anything, plus "Sports" was one of my favorite albums when I was a wee lad. I don't remember if "I Want A New Drug" was on it or not, I'm just saying.

Ghostbusters was a fun movie when I was young but I like men in their boxers so I Want a New Drug too!

I've never heard Huey Lewis' 'I Want A New Drug' and never knew the Ghostbusters song sampled it. Therefore I don't believe you! My vote's for Ghostbusters.

I'll go by what I feel is still listenable today and that would have to be 'I Want a New Drug'.
While I like both songs 'Ghostbusters' just hasn't held up as well.

Looks like Huey Lewis & the News take this round.
ROUND 2
I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow
vs.
We Got The Beat by the Go-Go's.

Both songs are drum-heavy good-time larks that I like, so this is hard for me.
But I think I'm going to give the slight edge to teen nudists Bow Wow Wow. A true classic song!

I'm right there with you Lash. Both of these capture the same feeling, to me.
But I'll go with 'I Want Candy'. Besides, didn't one of the teen boppers just remake, and butcher, 'We Got the Beat'?

I'm struggling with most of these anyway but I've never heard of Bow Wow Wow. Therefore, I vote the Go-Gos!

I feel like I've heard *of* Bow Wow Wow but I wouldn't have a clue what they've ever sung.
It wouldn't matter anyway though because I absolutely love the Go-Gos and especailly 'We Got The Beat'!

I like both songs about equally. But I'll give the nod to the Go-Go's since they wrote their tune and "I Want Candy" was a cover.

There you Go-Go again! "We got the Beat"! And I know it's too late to vote for the first round, but I'd like to toss in a belated vote for "I want a New Drug". HLN is still my favorite band. Yes, I'm that big a dork!

Thanks for breaking the tie, Omni, and this round goes to the Go-Gos!
ROUND 3

Vs.
Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison

Despite the recent, hilarious usage of "Pour Some Sugar On Me" in the T-MOBILE commercial, I've got to go ahead and give this one to Poison's "chick song". It was one of the better 80s-hair-metal aimed-at-chick songs, I thought.

I just can't shake Bill and Teds use of Every Rose Has A Thorn to chat up the medieval princesses a quality moment! Pour Some Sugar On Me was one of the few Def Leppard tracks I liked so it just takes my vote.
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

Hmmm, how to pick between two duds....
OK, the Poison song is less irritating than what they usually came up with and even has something resembling a melody, so I'll go with it.

Gotta be the Lepps for me. Not their finest moment, but at least it was a bit kinky, rather than just sappy!
Poison were okay, but that was just a ballad that sucked big time. Talk Dirty to me was great, but Every Rose... was, to quote Lashy, just a "chick song".

Def Leppard, who had a lot more credibility.
Also, a late vote for the Go-Go's.
Thanks for the scoop Craig. I always mean to replace Sports since I've long since lost my old cassette.
