Okay, before we start this, I just went to the DCMB and there were so many negatives/complaints on JLA-Z # 1...so I am wondering ...is that really BAD?!? I will get it in two weeks from Westfield Comics...so what is your reaction when you open that book? How do you feel about it?

i haven't been over to the DCMB's !!! but i suppose the profiles were too basic !!!
it was like they were designed for people who know nothing about the different charcters !!!
not .... comic / JLA fans !!!
IMO of course !!! i still bought it, though !!!
and i will still buy the next 3 issues ....
Matthew.

I got it, flipped through it. Seems okay but I'm a sucker for those Who's Who type books. I asked in the Back From the Comics Store thread but I'll ask here too:
Anyone want to see a scan of Steve Lightle's Black Canary or Chris Batista's and Andy Lanning's Crime Syndicate? Last chance as I get ready to pack up my scanner.

Not sure what people at the DC boards were expecting--- probably something more like the old WHO'S WHO.
This ain't quite that... it's cooler.
Granted, I have only flipped through the book...
But you're NOT going to get heghts, weights, eye color and preferred toilet paper brands on each of the characters, sorry!
What you WILL get is some hella-AWESOME full-page "splash" shots of each character-- very unlike the old Who's Who-- with a brief synopsis of what their involvement is/was to the JLA.
I think it looks pretty zippy at first glance!

Loved Black Canary and Crime Syndicate. I also liked Amazo and Flash (Barry Allen). Kolins's Captain Marvel was OK, but I was a bit bothered that Billy looks like he's in pain as he's struck by the magic lightning...

Is "no less than a year away" actually soon? There's six-issue stretches by the 100 Bullets team, then David Lapham/Bill S. And I'd bet on another six issues by someone after that, pre Loeb/Lee part deux, given that Lee's doing Superman for a year, and his need for lead time.

Well in comics time a year seems to fly. I'm still looking for the story about them signing up for another arc but haven't found it yet. I did find this though. A preview of Batman # 620 by the afore mentioned 100 Bullets team.

I bought #1 and I was disappointed. I'm not as irate as the folks on the DCMB, but I can understand their point. Especially since a lot of them said they've been misled by how DC promoted the book (which I'm not familiar with). They were mostly lead to believe it would be a lot more like "Official Guide to the Marvel Universe" -- more comprehensive explanations of backstory and powers etc. rather than a mere pin-up book. And of course the list isn't even good for completists as even in the first issue they've left out several former Justice Leaguers.

I guess I wasn't too disappointed or annoyed because I didn't really know anything about JLA-Z until it came out, so I went into the purchase knowing that it was pretty much just a book of pin-ups. (I DO wish they would re-do Who's Who, though... ) Another pin-up I really liked was Maguire's Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. His art has REALLY grown in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years -- the pin-up was even better than the art in FKATJL, I thought...

Well, judging by the few entries that Lighning Lad posted, I'm glad I saved my money. This looks like yet another attempt by DC to cash in on JLA's popularity. I, too, thought that it was going to be done in a Who's Who style. Has any of this not been covered by the many equally over-priced and worthless Secret Files?

Those so-called "Secret Files" really are worthless.
They never let you in on the REALLY juicy secrets, like Jimmy Olsen's penchant for cross-dressing. (It's true, it's damn true!)
