I just read the first Traveler Editions (the manga-esque sized versions) of Scion and The Path.

They were both really enjoyable. I'll be trying more of the Travellers out.

Anyone else read any Crossgeen comics?

I collect almost their entire regular line-- Brath, Crux, The First, Meridian, Negation, The Path, Ruse, Scion, Sojourn, Solus and Way of the Rat-- as well as The Crossovers from their Code 6 imprint. While I think it's commendable that CrossGen's trying different formats to increase their exposure, I prefer my monthlies, so the Compendia format never really appealed to me. That said, I might get the Meridian travelers for my little sister cool ...

I can't afford to many more monthlies (actually none at all), so the Travelers at 10 bucks or les a pop are very nice for when I have a few extra bucks.

I hear you about affording monthlies. I actually just switched from Lone Star Comics to DCBS for my monthly subscription service solely for the discount level-- I've been more than happy with LS for over two years. But I was getting to the point where I needed to drop titles to stay around the $80 a month I've been spending on comics since high school; in fact, I'd recently dropped Brath and the Path. But the 35% discount I get from DCBS means I can continue getting all the books I was getting, AND I can try out new stuff I might've passed on. Definitely check them out (www.dcbservice.com)-- I just received my first order from them, and am happy so far with their service.

I wasn't sure what to think of CrossGen. I haven't actually picked any up, but they kinda looked like they might be along the lines of DC's old Advanced D & D line. I dunno... I guess I like my comics superhero-y and my novels sword and sorcery-y...

I saw a buy one get one half off deal at a local store...so I grabbed the two Travelers. I really enjoyed them...I wasn't sure what to think before either, but I think I'll be getting more.

I've cut my monthly pull list down, and with some series coming to a close, it'll keep reducing itself.

I'm looking forward to trying more stuff in trade now.

Is that the company that makes all the creators move down to Florida? I'm a-scared of unwittingly joining some kind of cult.

You can read them from wherever... laugh

But, yeah. The owner wanted more of a work environment...so there's actually a place where the creators go to work at each day in FL.

So long as you can avoid the hurtling old people.

I get Sojourn (have since it started) and I've picked up a couple issues of Solus because of Perez but wasn't that impressed. I also get The Crossovers and Lady Death. Crossgen puts outs some good books but I agree the way to go is to get the collected editions.

I remember those. A couple of the Crossgen books resemble them a little, but not too much and certainly not all the titles. You might like Crux; it's a little more "superhero-y" than most of the others, IIRC. (I had to drop it for financial reasons. frown )

Frankly, Crossgen has got me turned onto comics again. I love Ruse and Sojourn. I read several other titles too.

I may buy the first two "Sojourn" Traveler editions to get caught up on the first 12 issues, in a notably less costly way than either the full-size TPBs or the back issues.

(I have the "Collected Edition" with the Prequel and issue 1, then didn't buy it until I was advised that the winged Ankharans had made their full appearance in issue 14.)

Two virtues of CrossGen's publishing are that they release both TPBs and posters from their art in a quick and timely manner. The posters are offered by FrameGods through the CrossGen.com Website.

They also are nimble with marketing. "Sojourn" has its scribe-thus-far Ron Marz leaving, and the first issue with Ian Edginton (30 July) is discounted to $1 to keep readers on and gather new ones.

Sojourn and Negation. Negation is GOOD STUFF. I reccommend to any Legion reader.
