Question 8 is rather US-centric. For those of you who bought your first new comic outside the US, please feel free to either guesstimate or choose "other" and post your answer here. Thanks! (Okay, okay, Question 5 is along the same lines. But not exactly.)

Where else do I store my comics? Unfortunately, I routinely resort to the floor (in addition to tidier, boxed storage).
Re: Q.8 - for some reason, comics at the time were 12 cents in Canada too. I don't know if our dollar was at parity then (it was in the early 70s) or if the difference was just too small to bother with two prices.

So who was the OTHER voter who paid between $100-500 for a book?

My answers:
None. Forget it. Boxes not meant for comics. None. $10-$25 (I think that groovy Teen Titans I purchased awhile back was the most expensive!) None of the above. Yes. 60 cents. No. DC.

Oh, hell.
There were 20¢ and 40¢ comics too. Sorry, seventies kids. You can round up/down or "other" it.

I really don't remember the price of the first comic I bought, but the price when I first was buying them regularly was 40 cents. I guessed 35 cents as an answer.
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

Heh. I'm the only one so far who is getting more from Marvel than any other publisher. I am planning to drop a couple Marvel titles, but it's still gonna be ahead of DC. I would certainly buy more DC if they weren't micro-managing their universe to death.

I don't remember the exact figure, but I think the most I paid for a comic was either Hulk #181 (first Wolverine) or "Uncanny X-Men" #94. Somewhere around $50 for each I think.
What comic did you all pay the most for?

The first comics I ever owned were sent to me by my Great Grandmother from England. They were full color and glossy and in a large tabloid-like format. The ironic thing was, they were mostly Disney stories! She also sent me a line of comics made specifically for little girls; I think they were called "Twinkle", or something like that.
The first new comic I ever bought was an Archie digest. I think it was $0.75. All I remember is that my weekly allowance was enough for a digest and a chocolate bar!

I have a bunch of Silver Age comics, mostly Avengers from the Roy Thomas/John Buscema era. I don't think any of them cost me more than $20, but that's because I'm not picky about condition grades. As long as I can read it, I'm okay with the condition.

I'm right there with you. I'm a reader not a collector. I've got a lot of old gems with less than stellar covers I got for 10 cents to $1

It (and a few other things) went into the down payment on my first house but I didn't make any profit on it.

The most I think I've ever spent on a comic book was eight dollars and some change -- it was on a better copy of LSH (v.1) # 1, the first Legion comic I ever bought. I still have the original, too, though it's in tatters.
I'm among those who started reading comics when they were 20 cents.

It was a beautiful comic. But I worried about something happening to it, so it wasn't much fun to own in that sense.

As I said before, my most expensive purchase is the $11.50 I shelled out for the much coveted Titans issue in which Mal Duncan wrestles Death and gains the horn of Gabriel!
I'm very proud of that comic!

You know it's funny I consider myself a Marvel guy. Why? Cause as a kid I hated DC. They were hard to understand. I didn't understand this Earth1 stuff over in the JLA. I had notions of what DC characters were thanks to other media. I was also about 9 years old. Legion is the only title I liked and Teen Titans to a certain degree. The rest was all Marvel.
The first Crisis did draw me into DC but I still collected twice as much Marvel.
Today? The last 5 or 6 years I've been mostly a DC guy. It's not that Marvel is so bad I guess I just like what DC is doing more. They seem to care for their characters a bit more...they seem to have an overall better quality. I still love the Marvel characters though.

I don't remember how much I have paid for a back issue, but I don't think I ever paid more than $100.
And right now it looks like I am the only person who ever worked for a comic book shop. It was in a renovated shopping center in Providence, RI called the Arcade. We got a lot of tourists who would come in with there little darlings. Some of the kids would be overwhelmed by the amount of comic books and their parents would stand near the door and say "Hurry up and pick out one!"
Then there were the real little kids who would come in and grab a comic. There were three types of parents. The first would grab the book out of the tot's hand and place it anywhere. The next was one who would tell the little kid to put it back and the kid would put it anywhere. Then there were those parents who would tell the little kid to put the book back and make sure the kid put it back in the right place.
Then there was the kid who reading the comic titles off the books on the wall who said "Blizzard Adventures" for "Bizarre Adventures".

The ironic thing is that back then I worked in an art gallery and had nothing to do with comics. He was a huge collector and pretty much left his paycheque in the store. He even took me to my first comic convention (a very small local one). I haven't seen him in about 12 years, so he has no idea what I do now!

I didn't notice this until after voting ended.
My answer:
How many unread comics do you have RIGHT NOW? New? none. I probably have a handful in boxes that I never got around to reading, but not many.
Can you give an accurate count (+/-50) of your comic collection RIGHT NOW? no.
You store comics in: short boxes, mostly. I have a few non-comics overflow boxes, and a few Diamond Distributors boxes as well (but those are mostly for TPBs). Are your comics bagged? mostly.
In US$, what's the most you've paid for any single comic? I may have paid $20+ for one or two, but mostly in the teens. I have: a pull list at a comic book shop Since 1/1/06, have you seen FULL-SIZED comics in a grocery, 7-11, drugstore? I cannot recall, senator. When YOU bought your first NEW comic, the cover price was good question. I vaguely recall having a few 15-cent Disneys, but I didn't buy them. 35 cents was the regular price by the time I was buying regularly. Have you ever had a job in a comic store? yes. In 2007, I have bought more ONGOING titles from: Either DC or Indies; I'm not sure if some of my Indy books count since they are irregular. It also depends on how one counts Wildstorm; at the beginning of the year I was following 2 series, but now I'm down to 0.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.
