In the Legion Forum everyone talks about medallions and puppet boys made to marry some blonde telepath. Narcissism is rare in comic book heroes (that's why I love Imra, she's a special gal) but prevalent amongst villains.

Name a situation in comics where the villain/or hero was so obviously in love with himself to the point that it could be considered a classic moment.

This moment came to mind the moment I saw this thead. Maybe it's just because I love Pietro (Quicksilver). PovertyLad

Leonard Samson (the shrink): Well, Val did warn me you're always nasty. She calls it "PMS…"
Pietro: I beg your pardon…
Leonard: "Pietro Maximoff Syndrome." An uncontrollable urge to be high-handed and arrogant.
Pietro: And I'm upholding that assessment?
Leonard: Somewhat, yes. You seem proud of it.
Pietro: I revel in it. I'll have you know, doctor… not everyone can raise arrogance to the level of an art form.

I've always been fond of Judge Dredd's slogan, "I AM the Law!!" One of the best satires of the arrogance of authority (unless of course it gets americanized and they try to make him look like an actual hero).

Drake, I love JD, Judge Dredd is so wonderfully ironic. The movie was just a joke though.

Caliente, I remember how much I loved PAD's writing on that book. Though I remember it came near the end of my first stint in comics. I remember that scene clearly. Was it around '93, I think I was learning to drive and that comic geekss are to teenaged girls, what minority voters are to right-wing politicians (ignored at best).

Present company excepted, of course since you are so obviously both a comic geek and still a teenager. tease

PS Where the heck were girls like you when I was a kid? You know how much good stuff I missed from 93 to 2000? Though missing the crud over that span makes it almost worth it.

Avengers Volume One # 258, written by Roger Stern, concludes with the villainess Nebula blowing up an entire planetoid and declaring, with a smug expression perfectly drawn by John Buscema, "One less obstacle to my plans of conquest. Marvelous!"

I've always felt that if Nebula's creator Roger Stern hadn't been fired from Marvel, she might have become a great villainess, instead of the sad C-lister she turned into. I also think Stern's DC creation, Maxima, carried over some of the plans Stern might have originally had in mind for Nebula.

The time Nura broke a nail during her tenure as leader seemed pretty dang self-involved to me!

Also, any time the Enchantress (Marvel) popped up in a panel anywhere, she was the ultimate picture of narcissism.

I've always had a fondness for characters that talk about themselves in the third person.

Namor in the early Silver Age was priceless. Especially when he wasn't so over the top, but still so blatantly arrogant.

But a legal teenaged comic geek and that makes all the difference. wink

From '93 to '00 I was finishing elementary and middle school. tease I dunno where 'girls like me' were but it's not like I flash around my comic obsession in RL.

Oh, yeah. Namor is one of my favorite comic book characters of all time.

"IMPERIOUS REX!"

And his cousin Namorita is one of my favorites.

"Nita Prentiss. NAMORITA Prentiss."

Moondragon is another. I mean, she goes out of her way to convince Thor that his best friends are holding him back, and he’s better off not being around them?!

And her attitude towards Hellcat was patronizing at best!

And then what she did to Quicksilver!

Ugh, I can't stand Moondragon. Lady Quark would kick her ass.

Willikers! And I didn’t even mean it like that! I think Lady Quark is bad-ass awesome, and Moodragon can really be annoying…

Shouldn't there been a Moondragon revival soon, after all Bendis has brought back every other character from that era.

Shouldn't it be Saturn Girl who kicks Moondragon's ass? After all, MD is very much a Marvel spin on the Saturn Girl character (a fact I somehow missed back then, but it seems so obvious now... )

Now that I think about it, that Todd McFarlane-scripted Peter/MJ conversation in Spider-Man #1 where he talks on and on about how penny-ante criminals are stupid for messing with him and "I can be pretty impressive when I want" was pretty narcissistic.

Now are you saying that Peter was a proxy for McFarlane's own narci....

Never mind.

Pofessor Xavier for calling his students "X-Men"

Reed Richards for calling himself "Mr. Fantastic"

Wolverine, "I'm the best there is at what I do."

Victor Von Doom calling himself "Doctor" when we all really know he only has an honorary doctorate from Latveria U. (which he granted himself after he took over the country)

When interviewed recently about the upcoming "X-Factor" book, he cited how much everyone remembers that issue - chock full of characterization and gave them new nuances without contradicting what came before (I was most impressed by his take on Madrox). Gives me hope for the new series if that's where he wants to go with it.

Wolverine: "I'm the best at what I do."

X-Factor: I've got to go add that to my "deceased titles that I can't give up" list. Between PAD's runs on the Hulk and X-Factor, he'll stay on my fave list for a long, long time.
