Bruno Kirby, a character actor best known for his role as the young Clemenza in Godfather II and Ed in City Slickers passed away yesterday at the age of 57 due to leukemia. Most recently Kirby made an appearance on the HBO series Entourage but, next to the Godfather (my favorite movie series of all time) I remember Kirby from an 80's Rutger Hauer movie, Flesh + Blood, a great medieval movie that uses the plague to good effect. If asked I could not have come up with his name, yet his face was instantly recognizable to me. He brought many supporting characters to life in so many movies I've enjoyed that I'm saddened to hear of his passing. R.I.P.

He was a really gifted comic actor. It may have been his fate to play the lead's best friend but he could make the most of it.

I'll mostly remember him in When Harry Met Sally. Hey, if I was an actor type, I'd take his career in a heartbeat.

The Godfather series, When Harry met Sally and City Slickers.
Three of my favourite films and Bruno played three of my favourite characters. City Slickers II suffered because of his absence.
And now so will everything else.
