That's great news Semi! You should definatley feel proud! And please, continue all bragging, everyone. It helps me keep up my workouts laugh

Dean, it sounds like you had to very good workouts without going to the gym. I'm sure you'll get back into going soon enough--it's good to sometimes take an extended break from a strict routine.

As for me, I'm doing great! I've decided to do something I've never really done before and start eating healthier and watching my carbs, in addition to working out and running every day. I want to tighten my stomach for the first time in ten years. And I've really started to like eating cottage cheese and fruit, which should help. Another mental trick I pull on myself is to grab a cup of coffee or tea late at night instead of having a bite to eat (it hasn't kept me up yet, so that's good). All in all, I'm feeling good and slimmer than I have in awhile! My clothes actually feel a little looser and I'm surprised at how much weight I've lost when I looked at the pic Darden posted of me from six months ago.

May a lowly fat backslider return to this thread...?

If I'm going to be meeting up with folks at the Dallas con this November, I want to look my best... so I reckon its back to Diet City for me!

Support, yes - but we're not Dev-em - we love you any way you are.

Regarding music when you exercise - it definitely helps me, but some types of music don't work with my running, the pace seems wrong and I go too fast and wear out early, or just seem to be out of balance.

Sore muscles - besides rest, does a heating pad help? Or a comfrey poultice, if you have any growing (don't take it internally).

FC, my problem is my shoulders. My deltoids are sore all the time. To make matters worse, I sleep on my side and that tends to exacerbate the problem. Before my workouts, I use linament (like Flex-all or Ben-Gay) and that helps. But at night, there is no way I want my bed-sheets smelling of menthol and camphor.

I've never heard of comfrey and I'm not sure what a poultice is (but I can look it up).

And I did in fact look it up. Handy little thing this internet. Now all I have to do is find my local comfrey root and wintergreen grocer.

Well, I ate less today than I did yesterday.

Liquids only from here on 'til bedtime. (reckon I'll have to get up and pee a lot through the night?)

Am weighing for the first time in ages tomorrow morning... *whimper*

For me, the music has to have a slower pace than the actual workout, especially when I run. Otherwise, I run faster than I'm used to and tire myself out. Whatever gets you mentally psyched is the way to go.

Glad to have you back, Lash! And you'll be back in the shape you want to be in no time--you seem to have a knack for that!

Workouts are going great for me! I've watched what I've eaten all week, for the first time in my whole life! And I've been running everyday too! I've always been a big guy and have tried to get 'bigger' through weight-lifting, but I think I'm going to go for a more slim look (not skinny or tiny) and see how it works for me (and if I can do it).

Keep it up everyone!

This is off topic, but this phrase has always made me think of one of the following:

1. Me too. I never eat in the dark.

2. Me too. It's more fun to stalk my food for a while before I pounce and kill it.

I know, that's sick.

As long as your food doesn't watch you back, you're okay.

But imagine how thin we'd all be if we had to stalk and kill everything we ate. Alas, that bag of Cheetos did not put up much of a fight.

You'd think they would, though, with that cheetah on the bag. At least, they should run away.

FALSE ADVERTISING! I'm gonna sue Frito Lay because Chester Cheetah made me fat! mad wink

But the biggest stumbling block has been not being able to even walk properly for the last two weeks. shake frown urk

Aw, Pov! Take it easy on yourself!

I went to the gym Wednesday morning and then loaded up my kids and my nephews and went to the lake for an overnight campout. Being in charge of 5 kids is a TOTAL workout.

Confession time--MOST of the meals I've had in the last week have been "convenience" food. The only positive thing about that is that the quantity is less than I used to take in. Summer's just too busy-busy to prep food. One bonus is WATERMELON! We've all had lots of watermelon all summer. Good thing.

Bri, you're being too hard on yourself (and you too Dean!). The main thing is that you realize when your work outs are slowing down and then take steps to fix it!

You've already begun the first step laugh

Well, I went to the store today and stocked up.

I'm banishing fast food to the realm of ghosts & shadows! I'd gone a little berserk with the fast foot recently.

If you'd gone with the fast foot, you coulda gotten away with the fast food, Lash!

wink

In spite of my relative inactivity, I was surprised to find I haven't actually put any weight back ON. Or maybe I have, but I still weigh about what I did the last time I weighed in.

:scratcheshead: confused

Today's Weight: 195.0.

That half-pound may just be within the margin of normal variation over the course of a day, but I feel optimistic!

This is the most slim I've been since mid-college. My clothes actually feel loose, and I've been getting hit on everywhere I go!

I've been running, roller-blading and some hiking here and there, but it's mainly due to dieting, something I've never really done before. No carbs, with smaller portions when I eat is the way to go!

And I have a new appreciation for fruit, veggies and cottage cheese. I also recognize that I will never have the willpower not to eat beef, pork, chicken, veal, etc., so I will never try wink

Today's weight: 194.0.

I find I can slim down pretty quickly if I just pay attention to calories, and cut out the fast food and, especially, pizzas.

Getting ready to walk the roughly 2-3 miles to my office.

I've been eating really lightly all week. Don't feel much different, but that's good because I don't feel fatter....

I've had good workouts this week, although a couple of days it was a real struggle to get started. Yesterday was particularly good and I got a good pump. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to Sunday, the one day I don't work out.

Diet tip: For those days when you can't be bothered to cook and are in danger of eating junk food, try a "Life Choice" frozen dinner. They are high in protein, low in carbs, and low in fat. No frozen dinner is totally satisfying, but these tend to have bigger meat portions than most, so the protien content is higher. I use them for lunch at work several days a week. The chicken breast dinner contains 2 breasts and string beans and is a pretty healthy meal.

Tip 2: Cherries are really low on the glycemic index, which means they release their sugars into the blood stream very slowly. Thus, you don't get a blood sugar spike which causes excess insulin production (believed to be the mechanism for storing carbs as fat). Bottom line, if you get a sweetness craving, eat cherries.
