I'm watching what I eat, but haven't been to the gym at all. It does help. I had a terrible cold during the week surrounding New Year's Day, so I couldn't manage to do any exercise. I'm better now, but have begun a terrible cycle of staying up WAY too late at night and sleeping in WAY too late in the day. Then, I work evenings, so I wreck my gym time! It's always something.

I've been working out hard and eating clean for last two weeks...and yes that means cardio too! I've lost only 7 pounds this month. frown Trust me most of it is temporary fat I gained eating like a horse on purpose the last three months...usually i drop twice as much when I start dieting.

ohwell kids spring and summer is right around the corner...time for us to start working on the sexy look. wink

They weigh us, determine body fat percentage by pinching with calipers, test heart rate before and after using a step for a minute (or three?), they measure our flexibility in a sitting reach, and yes, count pushups and crunches in a minute. Then, three months later, we're tested again. I placed one year (7th). Otherwise, I generally do enough work to improve, but never place higher. This year, I really want to try harder because I'm going to Maui next month and I turn 40 in July!

Egad.

Went to the gym for a really quick workout today. Felt good. I ate too much last Saturday, but have tried to keep it clean otherwise. This is more difficult, the older one gets...

I'm doing Weight Watchers.

I'm very determined to get lighter than I have been in years.

Almost done with my third week, and it's going very well. This "points" thing is prett easy to follow and stick with.

At my second week weigh-in last Wednesday, I had lost a total of 9 pounds.

I'll update my progress periodically here.

Good luck LASH, but tell me if Weight Watchers is just as good as Jenny Craig, money-wise...

I'm in so much pain right now! I took a weight lifting class on Tue and Thur and I'm so sore, it's pathetic. I keep telling myself that this is the road to improvement, but all I want to do is lay down and sleep until the pain goes away. No pain, no gain. UGG!!

Just got back from the gym. My fitness assessment wasn't really as bad as I'd been fearing.

I weigh 195! Whew! I still haven't toppled over 200 yet. (I'm 5'9" btw)

After pinching the fat at my chest, stomach and thigh, it is determined that I have 24% body fat. Not as bad as I thought. I need to be between 12 and 20%.

I did 3 minutes on the stair stepper and my heartrate (cardio test) was 104 which is average. I need to be between 97 and 103 for good and below 83 for excellent.

I did 64 crunches in a minute. This rated excellent! Yay me!

I did 23 pushups in a minute. I need to do 45 or more to rate excellent.

I did a sitting reach for the flexibility test, I measured at 12 3/4" I need to reach 14- 18" in order to get an average rating, so good and excellent seem like a distant goal.

In the past, I've left these tests feeling terrible about myself and in big pain, but today I feel hopeful about my chances of improving!

I had my fitness evaluation today. I weigh 189 lbs. It's just a miracle that I've never broken 200. I was quite sick last week and only began to feel better on Sunday/Monday. (See my Emerald City Con thread for pretty much full disclosure.)

They pinched the fat at my stomach, chest and thigh to assess body fat %. I did 30 push ups in 1 minute, 45 crunches. The crunches were almost unbearable after my stomach troubles. The trainer let me have 2 breathers during my minute of crunches.

My sit and reach stretch measured at 12 3/4". Last May, I could reach to 17 1/2", so I've definitely tightened up since then (no surprise).

I'm actually looking forward to working out regularly again. I've been feeling pretty lousy and I know that food and lack of exercise have been the reason. Oh and drinking. I don't wanna talk about drinking right now. Well, except to say that at 38, I think I've done plenty of it! Sometimes I think I'm 21 still.

How's everyone else doing? It's weird to not have Semi around here nowadays...
Wow, it's interesting to compare to last year.

Eep! This is becoming Sketch Lad's fitness blog...

Anyway, I did an hour on the ellyptical today, burned 1000 calories. Did a little stretching after. Whew! It's starting to feel good instead of torture!

More from me!

After a weekend of pretty much *bad* behavior, I went to my class in the gym and had a difficult time doing all the exercises. Boy, it shows if you miss the gym for a few days....

Glad I went, though.

Went on to create a fat-tastic Valentine's dinner! New York steak with mashed potatoes and spinach with sparkling wine. Vanilla ice cream with sugared strawberries and whipped cream. Yeah, pretty sinful, but hey, it's Valetine's Day. Oh yeah, gave the kids yummy candy which I helped them snack on. I have some work to do.

Today's weight: 185

Total pounds lost: 22

So I'm back on this thread and the story can be told.

Early 2005 (as documented here) I resigned myself to being content with 185 pounds. Then around April/May (also documented here) I began daily miles-long walks, finding myself in the upper 180s-lower 190s, but not really minding.

Then I got kind-of silent here later on in 2005.

That's because after the time jumped forward, and it got colder, and the treadmills in my apartment broke down (only recently got repaired, too), the walks stopped dead.

But the eating continued, unabated... and even increased.

So long story short, before I knew it, I was a whopping 207 pounds.

Now, March of last year, my Mom started Weight Watchers. She was only 148 pounds, but being that she's so short, that was really big for her. She dropped all the way down to 113-115 pounds (and is still there), and looks years younger (she was also my walking buddy before winter kicked in).

So then, distressed about my weight, and realizing I didn't really have anyone else to do it, she started in on my weight gain and how bad I was looking.

She was right.

And I had tried my usual round of crazy diets, and nothing was working, and I couldn't commit to any of them because they were so awful.

So finally, after seeing how doughy and awful I looked in Christmas pictures, I told her January 1st I wanted her to help me do this Weight Watchers thingie.

I started on January 3 with her guidance.

Today is day 2 of my 8th week. 22 pounds down, that's a smidge over 3 pounds a week.

And I ain't stopping here. This diet is WAY too easy, fulfilling, and even fun. I eat all the frickin' time and the weight has plummeted off. I even have my friend at work (also my primary party buddy) on it. He lost 5 pounds the first week and is nearing the end of his second. The two of us have inspired our other work friend, who is making a trial run of it this week.

The 170s is firmly in my sight and I know I'm going to get there now. It's been a mighty lOOOOOOng time! Got tons of cute clothes waiting to be worn... *giddy!*

And all this withOUT the excercise.... once Spring kicks in and the walking starts back again--- Maybe I should shoot for the 160s. That's my High School territory!

What poundage is usually classed as overweight, LASH? I'd seen a few photos of you over the months and you didnt look anything but skinny (to me, at least) nod

It's all relative, really. No one guessed I weighed over 200 pounds, yet I couldn't fit into my cute club clothes anymore. And now that I've lost so much, everyone realizes I really WAS big.

Thank gawd Mom was paying attention.

Plus I didn't post any pictures during when I had really packed it on.

This week's weight: 183

Pounds lost: 24

*eyes 70s gleefully*

It may not happen next week, because generally I've been losing 1-3 pounds a week, but I predict in 2 weeks I will be in the long-unseen land of the 170s.

Are you very tall, LASH? Coz being overweight might vary according to your height...Otherwise, it's good that you are approaching the end of the rainbow and about to go for the gold! smile
