That's great that you have such a positive response to exercise! I've always figured that one of the reasons I don't like exercise is that it doesn't seem to generate much endorphin buzz for me. And I totally stuff my face in stressful situations.

Scoots, I am so damned proud of you I could kiss you! Have Caroline do it for me, 'kay?

Rocky-- OM-freakin'-G! Isn't it AWESOME getting into those pants? You are kicking ass!

And DC-- you are WORKING IT!

Mechana-- MAJOR PROPS on the walking-- I could kick my own ass for ever getting out of that habit (and it CAN get addictive!). I got depressed re-reading this thread and seeing how many miles a week I used to walk (lots!) as compared to now (NONE!). And to quote Dr. Ian from Celebrity Fit Club-- "you have to eat to lose weight". So no more starving!

You guys all totally inspire me!

Last time I weighed (I *think* it was early this week) I was down to 209. I *feel* smaller, more comfortable in my own skin, but I haven't weighed recently. I think I'm afraid to. Maybe this weekend. Had pinto beans w/ jalapenos and lima beans for dinner-- GasGirl

I'm back too. I've been avoiding this thread for a few weeks, because I've been lax since about mid-May. But I saw Lash had posted, so I figured I would check too--and I'm glad I did! Scott, DB, Rocky, Mechana...its inspiring to read your posts!

As some of you may remember, last summer I dropped about 30 pounds and started to weigh what I did in high school. I kept it up until at least Feb/March, but started to get lax. It got worse in May and June, where I really just let myself go a little. A lot of it is stress--I got engaged, bought a condo, am moving and work has been stressful too. Between good stress, bad stress, vacations, etc., I've really thrown dieting out the window and missed too many workouts. While the actual weight I put back on isn't too much (about 12 pounds), I feel it in my body, which means I feel it in my mind (re: slight depression about weight, I think most would know how I feel).

Well, I'm back as of yesterday. Running/cardio during the day, weight-lifting at night, eating healthy everyday but the weekend. I won't maintain double-workouts everyday, but want to get about two weeks of that in to kick-start me and then hit a steady workout. My goal is to finally get below 200 pounds. I was at 207 last September, my lowest in over ten years.

So much of it is getting over the first hurdle (and then many more hurdles to come) and I'm on the brink of it. Reading the last two pages of this thread may have helped...

Oh, and I definately turn to food too a lot when I'm stressed. For me its usually cheeseburgers, hot dogs, etc. Things that aren't bad for you per se, but if you eat them every few days, not the best thing. Turkey, chicken, fish, veggies, here I come...

Woohoo, I'm down another 3 lbs this week! I've had some small losses lately that were kind of disappointing, but I just realized that if I average out the last 3 months, it's exactly 2 lbs/week, so that's not too shabby! Must learn to maintain perspective! I still have a long way to go, but I'm so impatient!

I'm considering joining the Y, if I can get over my self-consciousness. I figure if I start now, maybe I'll be all toned by the time the fat layer comes off! smile

My goal is to be one hot cougar by the time I'm 40! wink

One more pound off as of Wednesday!

I have had a few people say to me that they don't think I should lose any more, but I think 195 is still kind of heavy for 5'8". so I'm sticking with it for another 25 pounds.

BTW, I now weigh less than I did when I was thirteen! laugh

Well I lost one pound last week and not one ounce this week. And it is still just too damn hot to do anything outside like walking (nearly 9:00 PM and it is still over 100).

That's insane. eek

If it's any consolation, the heat's moving east... it's supposed to hit 92 tomorrow, peak at close to triple digits Monday, then mid- to low-90's until the end of the week. tongue

Looks like I'll be spending most of my week in my bedroom with the AC...

Two more pounds off as of this morning!

This weekend a friend commented that I'm now "two-dimensional"! Do we have a Ron-Karr graemlin anywhere? wink

Congrats Rockhopper!

I haven't lost anything for 2 weeks, but I haven't really been trying too hard. I've had company for the past week, and I think we went out to eat at least 4 times! But today my routine gets back to normal, so I have high hopes for next week!

Congrats John!

Sorry I haven't been around for support guys. Like Ronda, I've lost nothing for the last two weeks, not an ounce. But then I haven't gained anything either. When I talked to my doc last week he said it was to be expected for someone of my size and with the slow metabolism I have. He told me that I'll have another weight loss drop like I've already had given time and staying true to my diet, which I have.

That sounds about right, Scott, since you dropped so much so quickly--of which you should be very proud smile . The important thing is sticking with it.

And congrats to both of you for your success so far! Keep going! smile

Thanks John!

Looks like the doc was right. Weighed in today and I had dropped six pounds this week. That's 40 pounds since mid-May. Still don't think I'll hit my goal by SDCC next year but I'm sure going to keep trying.

My sister the fitness freak gave me this formula for figuring BMI:

703 * Body Weight in lbs / Height in inches / Height in inches

--That gives me a BMI of around 37. eek A BMI of 30+ is considered Obese. frown tongue

Pure evil. Of course that's what I'd expect from post #666. wink

You don't want to know what mine works out to be. Kinda similar to the difference in our DCBS orders this month. eek

Even if that's so, you're going great gangbusters doing something about it. I'm sure if you compute your -original- BMI, there's a significant reduction! Don't get disheartened!

Hey Scott, you are doing remarkable! Bravo.

I've had a rough couple of weeks. We had my son's JLofA birthday party, after which he immediately got really sick. He was sick for a week, then I got sick, and am just now coming out of it after a week. Oh, and I had a massive bbq pig out Saturday night because I thought I was feeling better (big mistake, all the way around, but we learn from those).

Anyway, I have still lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I feel like I have made it past the plateau I was at, and I have lost the weight I had gained over the last 15 months. Still a long way to go, but slow and steady wins the race.

Weighed myself this morning.

I lost the 5 lbs that I had inexplicably regained a couple weeks ago, and I'm back to having lost 25 lbs again.

I still want to lose another 35-40 pounds. Just have to be patient.

You go Ronda!!! cheers (That's Coke Zero in the glasses, BTW)

Congrats, Blue and DC! Keep up the good work!

Lad Boy, I checked my BMI after Pov posted that also--and thanks for that, Pov; it's very useful. The good news is I'm no longer "obese." I calculated the target weight I set for myself and it still puts me at 25 point something, but I think 170 is still a realistic goal for me, so I don't think I'll change it.

I'm down one more pound this week, which gives me 47 lost so far and 20 to go. laugh

You know, I really don't care much for the BMI, and am quite peeved that my job (and so many other places) uses it as the standard.

My company uses the BMI in their "Healthy Lifestyles" initiative, which directly affects such things as bonuses and health insurance initiatives, which has been really unfair for me

The problem with the BMI is that it takes absolutely no account of muscle mass. I've lost a *lot* (over 80 lbs) over the past year, but, thanks to weight lifting, I've also gained weight in the form of muscle.

Now, at 6' tall and 230 lbs, by BMI comes out at somewhere around 32, well within the "obese" range. BUT- if you calculate my body fat percentage, it comes out to be like 16.5%, a percentage within the "normal" range. I'm not sure how to do the math for this, but it takes into account your waist line (mine is 36") as well as your height and weight.

I *know* I'm not obese anymore. I mean I can fit into size L shirts now, where a year ago I had to wear 3XL. But since I'm categorized as such according to my company's BMI standards I have to pay higher insurance rates and take a mandatory "weight management class.... mad
