Into the second hour of the two hour premier. This show just hits the ground running. And being a 'beloved' character doesn't really matter. shake

I like how they really waste no time. Already by tomorrows episode it looks like one major aspect of the story will be wrapped up and we're on to another main aspect. Instead of dragging it on all season.

SPOILERS

(What I mean is that it looks like all season Jack Bauer won't be against his old allies, and most of them will be trusting him, at least a little.)

OH. MY. GOD!!! I was in shock after the first fifteen minutes! That's what you call a killer one-two (and maybe three) punch! While it may be debatable what's the best show on tv, but I think there can be little doubt which is the most *exciting*! They really don't let up -- I like that we're still not really sure what the main thrust of the season will be or who will be major players and who's there to move the plot along until they're eventually disposed of.

I really hope the kid isn't involved for much longer - he's quickly becoming the "Kim" of the show so far (I dread her return once it gets out that Jack's alive, but even if she does, it'll hopefully be a small role).

And let's see Chloe shoot more people!!

Two more hours tomorrow!!! Three more exclamation points!!!

I saw the last hour of this show last night. First time I've seen any of "24". Great show IMO and here's why:

1) It was very easy for someone completely new to the story (like me) to figure out exactly what was going on. Usually with a long running serial drama, this is not the case at all;

2) Fast paced and exciting with lots of misdirection to keep you guessing;

3) Very dramatic scene between Jack & former President Palmer's brother;

4) Best of all, it made for a great, stand alone story. Having never watched it before, it was still a fun watch and it was satisfying and complete enough to make it fun and enjoyable whether I'm able to watch the next episode or not.

2 thumbs up.

Since they've had time to plan things out ahead of time, I'm going to assume there's a logical connection between the assassinations, the hostage situation and the thing that was revealed at the end of the ep tonight, but I hope they get to it before things get too complicated. This show has had a tendency to move so fast it glosses over plotholes, but I really hope they're not doing it already.

I'm actually surprised there wasn't more of a cliffhanger at the end of this "premiere event" to bring people back in next week. The other seasons at least were able to establish a basic premise -- "assassination plot", "nuclear bomb in L.A." etc... I'm still not sure what the main threat is this season. Either way, it'll be a fun ride!

hey Drake !!

are you refering to 'LOST' !? and if so .... this is one of the reasons, why for me, 'LOST' wasn't my favourite show of last year !!

i did love it, but as you said '24' is the most *exciting* !!

I wasn't referring to any show in particular - there are several great shows on now -- "Battlestar Galatica", "The Shield" and "Lost" among others, but for second-to-second thrills, "24" has them beat!

season 5 starts this Sunday [ in the UK ] and i can't wait !!

we had a 'prequel' [ 10 minute episode ] here last week [ did they show this in the US, too ? ] featuring Jack and Chloe and it was set a year after the end of the previous season !

i think the 5th season is set 18 months after the last one !?

so how's it going so far .....

I'm starting to lose enthusiasm for the story at this point. It's still one of the best shows out there, but there's a "wow" factor missing. After the premiere, there hasn't been so many "I can't believe they're doing that" moments. The show gets really good when Jack shows that he is willing to do *anything* to get the job done and save the world or when Jack gets placed in impossible situations and we can't wait to see how he gets himself out. We haven't seen much of that lately - just him following clues and leads etc. Bucking Mr Hobbit's authority comes across more as inter office politics and less than dangerous when everyone in the office seems to be on Jack's side.

I do appreciate that they haven't tortured anyone for several episodes though - that was getting a little too familiar.

And It's starting to bug me how little sense it made for them to frame Jack of all people for Palmer's murder (aside from how they knew Jack was alive in the first place).

I read an interview with Jean Smart recently where she talked about how the story changes week to week in the scripting. They do not have a predetermined outcome and someone can come in with a new idea that takes them in a totally different direction. I'm thinking that's what happened with last night's episode. We don't see Nick Knight as the man behind the scene for a few episodes Click Here For A Spoilerthen they go and kill him after trying to make he's going to help Jack. Then they Click Here For A Spoilerbring in the Warlock as the real baddie behind the scenes. I didn't much care for this 'twist'.

Still good and I'll keep watching it but the show is doing what it has done the last two seasons, losing me before the half-way point.

Next week does look promising according to the previews. Looks like things reach a boiling point at CTU headquarters, and the First Lady's got herself in a dicey situation...

I do agree with your assessment of last Monday's ep Scott. Bait and switch again? They ought to have people who want to help Jack wear the red Star Trek shirt...

frown ....

Yet Kim continues to live on...

My interest in the latest few eps had been waning, but dang if they didn't amp it up again with this two hour night! Jack again shows that when it comes to interrogation, he's willing to do pretty much anything if he thinks it'll lead to the answers he wants, all of CTU finds itself in an impossible situation and things just get worse for poor Mr Hobbit...

Were Tony and Robocop put in the same room? It seemed inevitable, but it wasn't very clear.

Is that it for Tony, then? Man, I feel like if I watch the first four seasons and then this season, I'd be going crazy with all these deaths!

Another riveting hour...

I'm getting real tired of everybody dying. I know the writers have always seemed to say "no one is safe", but c'mon!!! Not Tony too! We just lost poor lovable goof Edgar last week, and now Tony's gone too?

This is probably an effort to show Jack no longer has anyone he can trust anymore. Tony and Jack had each other's back ever since Nina betrayed CTU at the end of season one! I liked their trust in each other, it was a big part of the show.

Jack's basically just got Chloe and Curtis left, and next week's preview isn't looking so great for Curtis either...

I meant to comment on this, but I have to say that Audrey and Jack's kiss was possibly the most honest and loving kiss I've ever seen on television before. There was so much emotion and genuine affection in it, as well as a sense of moving past all thought-you-were-dead/slept-with-the-enemy stuff that built throughout the season/episode.

I think the woman who plays Audrey might be the most attractive woman on TV (for me).

I can't believe who was revealed to be the mastermind behind all this....

And what was up with the "Mission Impossible"ish music that was played a couple of times on Monday???? Where'd that come from?

And I see that Keifer Sutherland has reupped for duty, signing a 3 year deal with FOX to continue 24. Rumors are he's getting between $30 and $40 million, an executive producer credit on the show (currently he's only a "co-executive producer"), and will develop another show for FOX as well... not too shabby a deal!!!!

I was distracted by that music too! It's a bit too old school spy-movie for me. It *almost* works as Chloe's ersatz theme, but it really doesn't fit "24".

Jack's going to take down the President!! Wow - it's getting good again! (although this is one of those twists that I'm not sure how well would hold up if you were to look over everything that's happened so far...)

Yeah, some of this seems to be changed on the fly. You would think if Evalyn (the First Lady's aide) had a recording that implicates the Pres, and had it long enough so the bad guys kidnapped her daughter for it, when exactly did she find the time to put it in a safe deposit box in a local bank? How long ago did she get that recording? And why not tell someone...like the First Lady maybe?

Anything is an improvement over last seasons plot twists arama, and and season three's Tony/Michelle love life of unbelievability.

This is the best the shows been since Season 2.

When last season ended, I was hoping they'd get the show out of CTU to open it up a bit. Maybe next season they'll find a way to do that - at least have part of the main action take place outside of L.A. (god forbid the action takes place in different time zones!)

I think the Vice Pres has been a very interesting character on this show. That actor has impressed me before and he's doing it here again.

He had me fooled. I would have sworn he was going to be the baddie. And he may still yet be and that just makes his acting job even better.

After seeing the previews for next week's episode all I can think is "Women really need to stay away from Jack, even on a limited basis." Of course I guess you could say that about his male friends too. shake

Yeah. If I lived in LA and saw Jack walk into a gas station or something, I'd pretty much assume I'd be dying within the hour. lol

another amazing episode !! and do you realise who KIM's boyfriend is played by ?? the 80's actor C Thomas Howell !! but i can't get over how OLD he looks, i checked his details on the internet, and he's actually the same age as Keifer, but i think he looks much older ??

Yeah, C. Thomas has kinda lost his boyish good looks. It was great to have Lou Diamond Philips in season one, and this was another great blast from the '80s. Did C. Thomas and Keifer ever do a film together back in the day? I can't think of one.

Not back in the day but back in the early 90's Kiefer made an uncredited appearance in two of C. Thomas' movies, Hourglass and Teresa's Tattoo.

I hope I don't look that old. They were both born the same year as me. I'm about 7 months older.

*choke* Just to reveal how youthful I am, I have no idea who C. Thomas Howell is!

On a sidenote, this is still the best show on television. Much like my favorite comics, I really don't have much to add other than I'm loving it. I really can't wait to go watch seasons 1-4 (I love when I come into something late and go look at the eariler stuff).

Oh, I really like Audrey. Here's hoping she doesn't die!

C. Thomas was in one '80s "classic" after another. Amongst them are:
"Grandview, USA"
"The Outsiders"
"Red Dawn"
"The Hitcher"
"Soul Man"

I just realized the other day that C. Thomas was the kid who played 'Pony Boy'. I never knew his name! My 7th grade class (when I read the book) used to think I looked like him.

I'm revealing my youth a little, but I've actually only seen 'Outsiders' and "the Hitcher' and never any of those other 80's classics!

BTW, last nights episode was awesome. Jack on the plane was so crazy it was amusing, as was Chloe zapping that guy not once, but twice! The intensity remains constant and there's only two more episodes to go (I think, with one being a double-hour season finale).

Totally saw that coming! My wife and I were saying it was ending too early, with Jack and Audrey kissing and having their moment with 15 minutes left in the show!!!!

Only 7 months until the next installment! smile

Great ending! They wrapped it up really well. I like that it didn't just end where Jack saves the day by shooting a bunch of people. It was almost a "Mission Impossible" kind of scenario - especially at the end when the Pres looks over to his wife and Mike and there's that moment where the bad guy realizes he's been had.

Oh, and did anyone else notice that the President didn't exactly take his time when he was gettin' busy with the wife? (he was being timed after all)

I said to Caroline, just watch, they've been building it up too much this season for those guys not to show up at the end and become involved with Jack. Can't wait for next season. This was the only show that I consistently watched each week on the day of broadcast. Not even Lost kept my attention as much.

Part of me was hoping Jack was about to put a bullet in the President's skull, but Aaron would jump in at the last moment and do it instead.

I'm glad Aaron never really strayed outside the bounds of his duty (like kissing the first lady, as much as he wanted to). Similar to Mike Novick, they seemed so much to epitomize goodness, loyalty and patriotism as much as Jack, I'm glad they were never revealed to have a dark side.

I totally agree Drake. Aaron is one of the best characters on the show! Its amazing he's still alive, and that itself is cool. Mike Novick also epitomizes patriotism too, as you say.

Man, I loved this show. I'm so glad I got turned on to it and started watching (now I need to see seasons 1-4!). This was a very exciting, interesting and well-scripted ride.

And the finale did not let me down. Seeing the President finally be had (after Jack is seemingly imprisoned), Chloe returning to the very sad truth at the end of the day that she must face, Bill asking Karen Hayes out (that was cool!), and Audrey and Jack together (man, she is so hot!). And then Jack being captured, which I even I saw coming and thought was very intense and cool. Jan 2007 is so far though!

I kinda can't wait to see the VP as Pres too--what a great character this season who didn't really have a lot of screen time.

I'm going to chime in for Aaron and Mike too. They are as much heroes as Jack, maybe even more so. They faced some big decisions based on faith in someone else and risked a great deal. Not many of us could do that in our jobs/lives let alone doing so against the Commander-in-Chief.

January is so far out but I do enjoy seeing the show uninterrupted with no repeats. That kills shows like 24. Lost will be doing the same thing since repeats were tanking. Only seven or eight episodes in the Fall then the rest of the season will be shown uninterrupted starting in February.

Oh, and Ray Wise as soon-to-be President Hal Gardner (I can't help but think of Green Lantern for some reason) will be great. I wonder, though, if we'll get him as President or if we'll skip a year or two into the future again. I'd prefer to see the next season deal with Jack getting out of his current prediciment.

The "Hal Gardner" thing never occured to me - I wonder if there's another comic book fan amongst the "24" writers.

One thing that bothered me here. Despite Jack being proven right, I find it hard to believe the man who just kidnapped the President of the United States and put a gun to his head is going to be allowed to just walk around freely like Jack was at the end of the episode and not be in custody of some sort.

I've loved Jean Smart since her Designing Women days as Charlene. She was fantastic as the First Lady. She was clearly troubled, but she had poise, charisma, and a brilliant political mind. She was equally as heroic, maybe moreso in her own way, then any of the men around the President. She displayed honor and courage and a sense of duty and responsibility. I understand what you guys mean about Aaron remaining unsullied and not overstepping his bounds, even if he wanted to, but dammit, Marty and Aaron deserved to end up together. Clearly they had a history, and they would each give up their life for the other. I am holding out great hope for them to have a future together.

I think Marty was a great character. Very flawed, which made her more heroic. I especially liked her and Mike Novick's gradual coming together throughout the final episodes--very underplayed, which made it all the more interesting to watch. In the earliest episodes I couldn't really stand her, but by the end I was cheering her on when she 'helped' Aaron with that guy (not giving away too much) and was completely outraged when the Pres went as far as to hit her. Her and Mike's looks at the Pres at when they last saw him were perfect.

Matt, you're in for such a treat!

BTW, the woman playing Audrey Rains is my biggest crush in TV history! smile

Bummer, Matthew!!! frown

I don't know if they are replaying it where you are, but here in the states, it is replaying on Fridays now, but they are only into about the 5th hour or so. Hopefully it will replay there as well!

If I had been recording it, I'd have sent you the tapes, just so you could see the cliffhanger ending... smile

well i finally saw the finale a couple of weeks back, now !!

and it was great, i liked JACK's talk with LOGAN, and that he didn't kill him, the final scenes of Logan, being led away with the Secret Service were cool, especially with MARTH and MIKE giving him the 'evil eye' and the slight smiles on his dimise !!

the cliffhanger with JACK and the Chinese was cool, although i knew it was coming, after reading a SPOILER by mistake !!

looking forward to season 6, and how Jack will get out of his capture by the Chinese ......

Matthew.
