Back in the day when The Cranberries, The Breeders and Nirvana ruled!
The Lemonheads released COME ON FEEL THE LEMONHEADS and I got a huge crush on Evan Dando.
Courtney Love blew me away with LIVE THROUGH THIS, released like what? A DAY before Kurt Cobain's suicide? Hole's MISS WORLD, DOLL PARTS and VIOLET from that cd still rule.
Other cds I liked then:
Belly, STAR
Babes in Toyland, FONTANELLE
Morrissey, YOUR ARSENAL and VAUXHALL & I
I need to dig through my collection....

The Lemonheads were ace!!! Glad to see that Evan is finally getting back to his old self after all his 'difficulties'. The nineties were a lot more interesting musical decade for me - Nirvana, Pulp, Blur and god know what else. Think I'll go home and have a rummage around in the CD collection tonight too!

Grunge and alternative is what I drifted to in the 90's after we were inundated with rap and hip-hop on the pop charts. Just not my cup of tea that stuff.
But I found myself drawn to the harder edge of the late nineties like I hadn't been since high school. Godsmack, Creed (early stuff), Disturbed, Korn and Rob Zombie spring to mind. I think that's why I love Evanescence so much. They have a nice, hard edge but the music is enjoyable just about anytime unlike some of the harder alternative stuff.

The only group i liked from the 90's was pearl jam, i cant think too much else in the 90's that stood out, but there might be 1 or 2 bands i liked.

I doubt if there'll ever come a time again when the kind of music I like was getting as much airplay as back then... I listen to the radio now and it all just sounds like a bunch of crap, mostly.

Could it have been because of the line from their hit FEED THE TREE...
"Take your hat off boy, when you're talking to me And be there when I Feed the tree..."

And there was NO escaping this classic Cranberries song... and I still love it...
If you, if you could return, Don't let it burn, Don't let it fade.
I'm sure you'll find me rude, But it's just your attitude. It's tearing me apart, it's ruining ev'rything.
I swore, I swore I would be true And honey, so did you. So, why were you holding her hand? Is that the way we stand? Were you lying all the time? Was it just a game to you? But I'm in so deep.
You know I'm such a fool for you. You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, Do you have to, Do you have to let it linger?
Oh, I thought the world of you. I thought that nothing could go wrong, But I was wrong. I was wrong.
If you, if you could get by Trying not to lie, Things wouldn't be so confused And I wouldn't feel so used, But you always really knew I just wanna be with you. But I'm in so deep.
You know I'm such a fool for you. You got me wrapped around your finger, Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, Do you have to, Do you have to let it linger? And I'm in so deep. You know I'm such a fool for you. You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ha, ha. Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, Do you have to, Do you have to let it linger? You know I'm such a fool for you. You got me wrapped around your finger, ah, ha, ha. Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, Do you have to, Do you have to let it linger?

But this is by far my favorite song from their debut cd... SUNDAY.
Do you know Where to go, where to go? Something else else on your mind, Wanna leave me behind, wanna leave me behind.
You're spinning me around, My feet are off the ground. I dunno where I stand. Do you have to hold my hand? You mystify me, you mystify me, you mystify me...
Oh, when you walked into the room, It happened oh so soon. I didn't want to know. Did you really have to go? You mystify me, you mystify me, you mystify me...
And I couldn't find the words, To say, "I love you. " And he couldn't find the time, To say, "I need you. " It wouldn't come out right. It wouldn't come out right. Just came out all wrong.
You're spinning me around, My feet are off the ground. I dunno where I stand. Do you have to hold my hand? You mystify me, you mystify me, you mystify me...
Oh, do you know, Where to go, where to go? Something else else on your mind, Wanna leave me behind, wanna leave me behind.

[/b]Okay, I admit to recognizing the names of those two and Creed as well but can't say that I could think of a single song by any of them. Sob!!!!! I'm so ashamed! How could I have missed an entire decade?

Maybe metal and hippie-alt-rock wasn't your thang.
There was plenty of other good stuff out though-- in the pop and dance categories.
Lovefool by the Cardigans was great (the whole CD is good!) It was Hip-Pop!
Amber was tearing up the 90s dance charts with This is Your Night, One More Night and Sexual...

By the early 90's, I just stopped listening to the radio altogether. I spent some time getting deeper into "progressive" bands, getting import CDs of older bands that were out of print in their own country, and slowly discovering very obscure "bar bands" that were getting no airplay or promotion. (These included CRUSIN' with Max Collins and THE BRAIN SURGEONS with Albert Bouchard.)
But by the late 90's Id gotten HEAVILY into bar bands, and was also finding a multitude of obscure bands of a variety of styles from all over the world, and I found myself enjoying MORE new music than I ever had before, even back in the 70's. But most people have never heard this stuff, because they're not connected with big labels who insist on creating / owning / controlling every aspect of the current biz.
Top of my list: THE FRIGGS LOS STRAITJACKETS BEN VAUGHN THE SPACE COSSACKS STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND UNLIMITED THE MEN FROM S.P.E.C.T.R.E. THE KAISERS THE NEANDERTHALS DANNY DEAN & THE HOMEWRECKERS KEVIN JOHNSON & THE LINEMEN KENN KWEDER LONESOME BOB CADILLAC HITMEN DESTINATION: EARTH! THE CYBERMEN (Finland) CATFIGHT! THE DIABOLIKS SIT N' SPIN DASH RIP ROCK

As far as dance music
The mid nineties had that fabulous remake of "Dreams" (the Fleetwood Mac song) by a band called Wild Colour...

The second CD is called "Raise the Pressure" and is also very good. They had a third CD, "Twisted Tenderness", that was not distributed in the US. I didn't like it as much.
They also have an excellent track on the "Cool World" soundtrack, called "Disappointed", another very good song.
