I also find it strange that the women will end up in Woodbury first, given that the motivations for the Governor are to a) find the prison where the group got their equipment an b) find the rest of the group.

Andrea doesn't know about the prison or even if the others are alive, that pretty much cuts out any interest the Governor would have in them (unless the kid Shane killed last season was from Woodbury).

Wow! There was a big spoiler in there! I'm glad I didn't see this until after the episode aired.

I'm loving this season so far. Pulse-pounding and not wasting any time at all.

I have a feeling that the peeper was from Woodbury...and may be someone we have already seen. That would give them reasin to go there.

I thought Carol's behavior was kind of weird. I didn't buy the idea that her learning to perform a C-section was suddenly so important that she abandoned taking care of Hershel before they really knew his fate. I'm betting, however, that Click Here For A Spoilerpretty soon she's going to want to practice on a "live" zombie, which could set up something similar to her comic fate.

Lori giving mouth to mouth to the possibly dead Herschel was one of the most frightening things I've seen in awhile. Also possibly one of the stupidest things I think I've ever seen someone do in Zombie fiction.

With Carol, it's cold, but I can see why--I mean, it was more than a minor miracle that Herschel survived that, so she figured that if she's the only person left who can deliver the baby, then she better start soon, 'cause she is gonna pop any minute.

Now that I think about it, my question is--why perform a C-section in the first place? Wouldn't it be easier to do it the natural way?

The trouble is...if there is a problem and there needs to be a c-section, they'd be in a whole lot of trouble if nobody had any idea what to do.

Plus, not sure if we know if Carl was a c-section, which would increase the possibility of this child needing to be born that way. I know from my wife's experiences with this very situation.

I need to rewatch the first two episodes to see if there is any mention of this.

I think they said Carl was a C-section when they went out to get the zombie.

It just seemed to me, though, that the C-section practice could wait like a day or so till they saw how Herschel was. It just didn't seem to me to have the urgency that Carol made it out to have.

I'm just gonna chalk it up to keeping the season moving quicker than the last two for now. Hope that'a all it is...although I had the same dreadful feeling in my stomach when Carol wanted a Zed to operate on.

Also, it served as a convenient way to get Carol out of the way so that Lori would be the one in danger from a possibly-zombie Herschel.

Very true. That scene came the closest to truly shocking me the most so far in this entire series. How wild would it have been if the unthinkable happened there.

Maybe I heard it wrong, but didn't they say it's been 9-10 months since the last episode? If that's the case, and considering that Lori was pregnant for most of the second season, then she's pretty much due to pop the thing out at this point.

Hmm... I was under the impression that it had been only about four or five months at the most, but if you're right, I could definitely see it being a bit more pressing.

Well, the end of the last season was when it started to get cold because winter was coming. Since this is in Georgia, that leads me to think it was November-ish (late October at the earliest).

This season appears to be when things are starting to just warm up in early Spring. So probably April-ish.

So I'm thinking a 5-6 month gap has taken place, give or take a month.

Laurie was likely a good 6-8 weeks pregnant when they found out, right? Possibly more? So she's certainly in her last trimester, probably on the verge of being in that period where she could go at any time (38 weeks+).

Carol definitely told Glenn that Carl was delivered by C-section while they were obtaining the zombie woman. I didn't catch that bit the first viewing, but when the rerun came on, I did.

I think the "ten months" bit is being confused by you guys with how long the prisoners were holed up in the cafeteria. I haven't heard anything definitive as to how far along Lori is. I don't think they have any way of knowing how far exactly because Hershel isn't exactly a gynecologist. Plus, there's as much as a one month margin of error, depending on whether the kid's Shane's or Rick's. (How long was Rick in a coma? And how long were Lori and Shane doing the deed?)

We know that Season 2 picked up immediately after Season 1. Season 1 probably covered a week or two tops in story time from the point that Rick woke up. Season 2's time lapse is a bit tougher to nail down. It was, what, maybe three months or so from anecdotal evidence?

If that's correct and Cobie's short end estimate is accurate, she's between 8 and 9 months along.

Yeah, I think what I was thinking of was probably the current producer saying that it's been ten months since the start of the plague. Now that I think about it, having her have the baby inside her for 10 months is probably a little inconcievable.

As for Hershel's credentials for it, they did say he was an animal vet--which isn't perfect credentials, but knowing how mammals give birth is a step above someone who doesn't know how any of them do.

Yeah, it is a major step up, but still a long way from Hershel being an expert on human reproduction and childbirth.

Losing Darabont was the best thing that could happen to TWD apparently.

Absolutely enthralling stuff.

Governor is despicable but I like that, at first, you can almost see his reasoning for doing what he did... he wanted the weapons but had no intentions of letting a group of alpha-male military men into Woodbury... and one can almost understand that.

Then the other shoe drops with the final scene. Those heads weren't out of their misery.

He's gonna be 100 percent villain.

Another great episode for me tonight.

A little slower than the first two, but a lot happened. A lot of set up, and wow...

The Governor is everything I hoped for so far. Merle is great to have back. Lots of little things happening around town.

Almost thought the one big guy might have been someone we've been waiting for, but I am glad it's not given that he was in on the little situation at the end.

Was it me, or did even Merle looked a tiny bit disturbed at the Governors reaction to what happened at the end.

Then we get back to town and we finally see Click Here For A Spoilerthe fishtank wall of heads. Including the chopper pilot.

As someone who disliked the Governor in the books, I'm cautiously optimistic about the TV version. I found the comic version completely over the top and a little excessive which made him hard to take seriously. This one looks like there's a lot more nuance and subtlety that could make for a better villain.

Hopefully they tone down the

Click Here For A Spoilersexual violence

somewhat, as I found that part of the book overly sensationalistic without any worthwhile story payoff.

Great episode. After reading the comics, I was surprised at the subtlety of the Governer (and liked it). In fact, I wasn't all that shocked by the end. However, my wife, whose never read any of the comics, was shocked in a major way at the ending, so I think it was definitely effective, especially for the non-comic book reading viewers.

I also thought Merle was done really well. He could easily have been presented as totally over the top and cliched and instead brought several different layers to his scenes.

Great slower episode. Next episode looks to be back to the fast pace.

PS - one thing I need them to do is give Michonne some scenes that show her to be the awesome character I love. So far, she's all *glare* and posture.

Agreed on all counts... I really like this interpretation of the Governor... the ending was great... I'd forgotten about that scene from the books...

I want to see Michonne kick some ass too... so far, she's been great, but they need to let her cut loose at some point soon...

Well, it is in keeping with the books, because other than a few "talk to herself Crazy" scenes and moving in on Tyrese, there wasn't much more to her character prior to Woodbury.

TV-Michonne has totes mastered the *glare*, for certain. Dave has a good point-- we seem to be bypassing the "she might be a nutjob" talking-to-herself stuff that made her a character to watch in the early comics appearances.
