EDIT: Thread title changed to include all zombie and related movies.
'Flight of the Living Dead'
I admit, the recent comic book advertisements for it hooked me.
I staked out Blockbuster until it was available.
It definitely falls in the "so bad it's good" category.
Nothing like a stewardess repeatedly telling panicked zombie-attacked passengers to "take your seats"! Heh heh!
I've been in full-blown zombie mode lately. Also rented PLANET TERROR (haven't watched yet), am up to the 5th tpb of THE WALKING DEAD (it's SO addicitive!!), and got MARVEL ZOMBIES 2 # 1.

Per the instructions of THE WALKING DEAD's writer, I bought Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD on DVD a couple weeks ago. It was okay, once I got past the whole claustrophobic feel of it. I was really wanting to wait and see the re-make, which I had heard was in the works.
So yesterday I went to Blockbuster and found out not only is the DAY OF THE DEAD remake *already* out (and apparently follows Romero's original plan for the film) but there is ANOTHER in the series-- DIARY OF THE DEAD. I rented "Diary of..." and will watch it tonight. Anyone seen the "DAY OF..." remake?
I *really* like the Dawn of the Dead remake, hopefully these are that good.

I'd heard of the remake plans for Day but didn't know it was out. I wonder if its on iTunes. Diary I knew was out but it never hit a theater here. Guess its time to update my zombie video collection.
Both Night and Dawn remakes were ok, Dawn definitely much better. But I still love the originals.

My favorite is still Shawn of the Dead. Never really got into the zombie movies, though. Saw planet terror and it was pretty good. My wife likes the resident evil movies.
I don't really like the horror movies because i tend to ruin them for other people, lol. I laughed my ass off at nightmare on elm street instead of being terrified. People in the audience don't tend to like that.
And five minutes into the zombie movies, or the "'orror noir" like scream, i just want everyone dead. Something else else original and unique, kill them all off in the first twenty minutes and have the rest of the movie run like the Andy Griffith show. Horror on top of horror, lol.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

Scott, have you seen Zombi: Dawn of the Dead, the recut of the original Dawn of the Dead for the European market? It moves like a bullet train and has a kick-ass score by Goblin. Not to be confused with Lucio Fulci's unrelated but equally brilliant Zombi 2, or Zombie to us Americans.

I haven't seen the recut. Ok, add that to my growing list of zombie disks to find. Thanks! As for Zombi 2, all I can say is shark vs. zombie.

Easily my favourite zombie movie. Followed by Resident Evil - it had zombie dogs! I did catch Diary of the Dead, and for a brief moment I was sure I would get a zombie chicken, alas... Zombi 2 holds promise, but beyond that, I get my fill from The Walking Dead. Now penguins...
Just spouting off.

I watched "Diary of..." last night and it was good, a bit different than the rest of Romero's zombie offerings.

QUARANTINE...
I haven't gone to the theatre for a scary movie in years but I'm planning to go Sunday to see this.
Looks like, based on the commercial, that the zombie/disease outbreak happens within a highrise and then is contained there by the Center for Disease Control. If you try to get out of the highrise, you are shot or whatever.
There goes my rationale for living in a highrise in case a zombie outbreak occures!

Love the actress from Dexter. Movie looks very scary and claustrophobic, so I definitely want to take Lady Cobalt out to see it (she looks like horror, including b-grade horror, as well). I'll have to wait until its been out a few weeks though so those damn loud and horny teenagers aren't in the theater with me

There were definitely a few scary and make-you-jump moments. The clautrophobia was definitely there.
I do have 2 complaints... it takes just a smidge too long to get moving. They could maybe have made the opening scenes about 5 minutes or more shorter and gotten to the action sooner. People were starting to lose interest by the time the action started. The DAWN remake would have been a good example to follow here.
Also, it's filmed in that whole "Blair Witch" style, by an actual cameraman in the movie. While in some places, this is highly effective, in some it's highly annoying.

I find Woody Harrelson to be a hoot in general. Match him with zombies and you have me at the afternoon opening of ZOMBIELAND on Oct. 2!!

SEMI S P O I L E R S . . . . . .
Woody Harrelson was FANTASTIC. The Bill Murray cameo is priceless.
I actually wanted MORE zombie action, though I enjoyed how they entertwined a "geek gets the girl" theme with a zombie apocalypse.
My only gripe was the total disregard for common sense that occured once they arrived at the amusement park... suspend your disbelief for that part, and everything is okay.

I finally saw Zombieland last week during my vacation and thoroughly enjoyed it! RIGHTEOUS zombie kills throughout! LOVED "the rules"! One of the very few roles for Woody Harrelson that I enjoyed. Fun cameo, but I saw how it ended coming. The opening sequence and the ending at the amusement park were awesome! This movie compares very favorably with Shaun of the Dead, especially in how each has its own flavor. Both films should be viewed by any fan of the zombie subgenre and by horror fans that don't take horror too seriously. While in a zombie mood, I rented, The Zombie Diaries. This movie combined zombies with the handheld camera/documentary horror subgenre. It wasn't horrible but was ultimately pretty disappointing. Not much in the way of gore or mayhem and a pretty slim story. The resolution felt kind of tacked on in a way. I get that zombie films are often used to point out man's own inhumanity to man, but I've seen it done much better elsewhere than how it was here: Click Here For A SpoilerOkay, so most of the protagonists shown in the movie are done in by sadists/serial killers they happen to encounter. Kind of a big coincedence in a relatively short timeframe (couple of months) post-zombie apocolypse, huh? Later, I pulled out the remake of Dawn of the Dead from my own DVD collection and watched it for the first time in a couple years. Enjoyed it a lot and figure it's the best of the recent crop of zombie flicks (certainly of the "serious" ones). A lot of good character interaction with a good mix of stereotypes and some who rise above stereotypical. A fun, gory thrillride! Topped everything off by watching the grandaddy of them all, Night of the Living Dead on AMC. Still a classic and still shocking and ahead of its time in many ways!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Yes, Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD was good.
THE ZOMBIE DIARIES I rented a few months back. It was dreadful. Didn't even finish watching it.

'Kay, I know THE CRAZIES, like 28 Days/Weeks Later, isn't really a "zombie" flick, but I'm still gonna go see it.
The original, after all, was directed by George Romero...

Trailer out for Resident Evil: Afterlife. I don't know about anyone else, but I love these movies. I never played the games, so I do not care one bit about them not staying true to anything. They are fun movies, and this one looks to be a hoot as well.

ZOMBIE MADNESS on NETFLIX!
The remake of DAY OF THE DEAD was not as good as the remakes of NIGHT OF and DAWN OF, but was still a fun zombie romp, full of action and some very scary moments!
Despite its campy title, BOY EATS GIRL is pretty good. It's also a bit different in that is uses a voodoo zombie and not some myserious plague to start the outbreak.
next: FIDO!

DEADGIRL is gone from the instant list! Damn NETFLIX! I hear they do a lot of moving around of movies, taking them off the instant lists at any time. I'll watch for it to show back up. They also removed the KING OF THE HILL seasons from the instant list and I was having a lot of fun with those.

OTTO was a bit to avante-guard and artsy for my taste and the thick accents were extremely difficult for me to understand. I *might* have watched longer if it had captions, but probably not THAT much longer.

ZOMBIES ANONYMOUS: Very low-budget but not BAD low-budget... it actually has great themes that deserve big-budget treatment...
In this movie, once the zombie plague or whatever happens, when you die you come back... not as a monster but as pretty much yourself... only dead. Awesome prejudice themes and ideas presented here... I'm kinda impressed so far.

Please let me know how you like UNDEAD.
Meanwhile, Zombies Anonymous has taken the pratfall of many low-budget movies... it's taken a great premise no one has thought of before, gone about an hour riding that premise to near-indie-flick-nirvana...
then taken a wrong turn into total ridonkulousness.
Gotta see it through though...

Final Verdict: Despite some overacting and some amatuer acting and a detour into ridonkulousness, ZOMBIES ANONYMOUS does deserve a view from any fan of the zombie genre looking for something different.

it's like a really scary movie with a 1950s bugs bunny score to it.

I was alone but I'm not easily scared.... though I am easily grossed out! re: DEADGIRL, I'd say give it a watch... but be prepared for ANYthing. And absolutely under no circumstances would I ever let anyone under 18 see it.

wow Deadgirl, i saw the box but i dont think i ever picked it up and read the back, thanks for the heads up. For me, Undead sucked, its talked about in horror forums for years but i couldnt get through it. There is a zombie i may or maynot have mentioned, Day X, dont worry it sucked beyond belief and especially the ending.

and mena suvari. i believe that would be Day of the dead- contagion or something had Ving Rhames and the chick from american beauty mena suvari. i did not enjoy that movie, and is in no way associated with Romero. DAWN was the remake where the zombies ran and our heroes were held up in a mall, remake of the original DAWN with the same premise but slow moving zombies.

actually i messed up, i got all the movies right, i just misread your original post where you stated you watched Day of the dead, i read it as dawn, so we have been carrying on this thread for my silliness. I believe any movie that sucks just needs zombies in it.

I love all the Resident Evil movies and am looking forward to the next one. I am not a Resident Evil game player, so I do not have any issue with deviations from the storyline of the games...besides it's a different medium and who constantly wants to see the same exact thing in different mediums. Some things work in print, comics, movies or games...but not in all three.

Just watched SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD On Demand...
There was same really bad acting and a Hatfields/McCoys scenario that was borderline ridiculous, but there also were some interesting ideas presented.
grade: D+/C-
Don't fret if you miss this one.

OK this came from Netflix today:
AUTUMN
Paraphrased synopsis:
Plague devestates the world... group of survivors soon realize dead are reanimating... Survivors find their wits and limits tested as they try to reconstruct a civilization worth fighting for while eluding the predators who are getting more intelligent every day.
Popping it in now.
review later.

AUTUMN: this was low budget and I grade on a curve for that.
While I really really like the premise of seeing the zombies become more intelligent as the movie goes along, where the filmaker fails is in the inconsistency of the threat.
Even grading on the low budget curve, and with the interesting premise, those awful inconsistencies drop the grade to a D-/D.
If a little bit more thought had been put into how the zombies should be portrayed as they evolved and how dangerous they should be at any given moment, I think this would have pulled in a C+/B- on the low budget curve.

DEAD SET
I enjoyed this when it was broadcast recently on IFC, though it contained an almost unbeleivably stupid move at the end...
SPOILER FOLLOWS HERE!!!!
Dude: Opening a gate by hand that has a thousand high-speed zombies clawing at it? Did you REALLY think you would make it back into your van several feet away? STUPID!

I saw that last year dirrectly from the UK. You have to look at the guy who did it. Yes, it was unbeleivably stupid, but that is how he was played through the whole show so not that surprising. The girl in the confession booth is what got me.

I have watched a few of the movies mentioned above that I hadn't seen yet... Deadgirl: Totally freaked me out. I think this one may require I get some really expensive therapy. Autumn: Not bad. Not spectacular, but not bad. Zombies Anonymous: The darkly-funniest thing I have seen since 'Gay Zombie' and strangely enough the same basic premous ... they could have even taken place in the same fictional universe (hmmm... wonder which one came out first? Now I'll have to look it up). Zombie Diaries: What a waste of time. I mean, nutball serial killers? Really?

TRUE... As I said earlier in this thread, I couldn't even finish it. Avoid ZOMBIE DIARIES at all costs.
DIARY OF THE DEAD, however, is worth a watch. It's a Romero, and was much better than Survival of the Dead. SotD is on Netflix now... I might give it another try to see if I like it any better... but zombies riding horses... I'm just not sure I can get past that...

gonna disagree with you a bit on that one, Dev. She's pretty, but I don't really get that "hot" vibe off her. She's right there with Gweneth Paltrow to me, pretty, but bland... doesn't throw off any sparks for me.

I watched ZOMBIE STRIPPERS tonight... and you can pretty much judge the quality from the title. I wasn't expecting much and therefore was able to enjoy it. There's some pretty good grossout scenes and LOTS of hooters for the straight boys and lesbians.
One thing I did find interesting is that as the nights passed and the zombie strippers were looking more and more like extras from the EVIL DEAD, the patrons were more into them than ever. Robert Englund's character called it a fad, I could almost see it happening.
Still, I would NOT recommend this for the zombie film elitists... but I thought it was okay, despite the low budget and goofiness.
After that though, I wanted some better-quality zombie stuff so I'm rewatching DEAD SET.

It was a fun movie! Caught it on cable last week. It was funny how the strippers were such divas trying to get a leg up on each other by willingly becoming undead. I also loved the random socio-philosophical commentary from the strippers and how some guys were taken backstage to be zombie chow after the performances. Hilarious how the caged zombie guys weren't all that different from their pre-zombie selves. Fun movie as long as you're looking for a campy romp. I mean, what else would someone expect from the title?

I LOVE Jenna Jameson. I have little interest in straight porn, but I always have to browse through the adult channels to look for her movies. She's a wonderful comedian who understands the power of camp. She makes me laugh.

Parts of it struck me as pretty believable like the use of youTube and other modern tech to unfold the story. Not as sure about the storytelling device of the handheld videocam. The morality/detachment of the thing was a little overwrought. I can see it as the characters are film students, but the "what are you doing?!?" elements get brought up over and over, and we get beat over the head with it. But some decent gore and some nice moments. But a puzzling loose end with one of the characters fleeing near the conclusion. Not a great zom flick but a decent diversion if your expectations aren't too high.

FINALLY a new zombie/rage virus movie hit NETFLIX.
While the original QUARANTINE did offer a few frights, in my opinion its sequel was MUCH BETTER.
For one thing, the first flick was almost visually inaccessible between an hour of scenes that were extremely poorly lit, or lit only by the light of a camera... PLUS that effing ANNOYING as hell SHAKY CAMERA SYNDROME (damn you, Blair WItch Project, for bringing THAT into popular culture).
This film has NONE of those problems... it's well-lit, there is NO shaky camera at ALL, and overall it was a nail-biter, being that it begins on an airplane (which scares the crap outta me anyway).
Also, the first film takes FAR too long to get into the action... that isn't a problem here, we get some crazy infected action pretty early on.
Also nice: it ties into and ties up a major loose end from the first QUARANTINE.
So, while it isn't anything super-special, QUARANTINE 2 is def. worth a view for non-elitist fans of the zombie/rage virus genre.

2012 was a SYFY movie so expect that. It was serviceable. i *almost* gave up early because the acting at first was... well, some of the actors are better than others. But I hung in there and was glad I did. Lots of cool apocalypsey disaster scenes, but the zombie makeup was hit and miss. Some of it was even giggle-inducing. I liked that it took several concepts from several zombie movies and used them here. There is also a very nice shoutout TWD fans will spot easily. I give it a B- because we have to cut SyFy movies a bit of slack.

I love those bad SyFy movies for some reason. They fall into the so bad they're fun category more often than not.
Plus, it's always fun to pick out the same locations they use for everything they do.

DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND
Wow, this one will be kinda hard to describe, quality-wise.
It is NOT low-budget by any means... there are some amazing FX and big-budget shots going on here... but at the same time it kinda "feels" low-budgety. I would describe it as-- a zombie movie fan takes film classes, and somehow manages to drum up about 2-4 million to make a movie, but doesn't have quite the experience to fully realize the potential despite hiring some good folks to work on it?? That's the best way I can think of to describe the feel of this flick.
It's British, the outbreak is caused by trial runs of a performance-enhancing drug conducted on 30,000 people... this in effect turns them into NINJA ZOMBIES-- I mean, some of them seem to almost have Spider-man level agility!
When it's all said and done, I'd say it's worth a watch to judge its merits for yourself.

I know we talked about this one on FB, but...I loved the Saturday afternoon feel of this movie.

I asked this of someone else on the first page of this thread, so I figure I might as well ask Lash:
Have you seen "Zombi", the recut of the original "Dawn of the Dead" for the European market? It moves like a bullet train and has a kick-ass score by Goblin. Not to be confused with Lucio Fulci's unrelated but equally brilliant "Zombi 2", or "Zombie" to us Americans.

I have not seen that. I usually try to catch what I can on Netflix and On Demand (and of course whatever new theatrical offerings are released) but that is not one I have come accross.

Watched it, listened to most of it. Missed some of the stuff at the beginning due to the sound being so freakin low for this one. I liked it overall. Pretty straightforward, 28 Days later feel to it...with the source and all that. There were some decent effects. Some good running by the Free Runners as the infected. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6xEkjeV60Q Fun movie, wouldn't rush to watch again, but would not turn it off again either. I'll give it three and a half out of five axes.

Yeah the sound was TERRIBLE on this one, but I always watch with captions (and ONLY watch the ones that offer captions).

THE EVIL DEAD remake is coming, and here's the first official picture from it! (click link below) Without a doubt, this was one of the most horrifying films of the early 80s and I actually prefer its sheer unbridled horror to the campier elements in the sequels. I think the scariest thing to me was the "possession zombie" aspect. There's virus zombies, rage "zombies" and voodoo zombies, but demon zombies just take things to a whole other level: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/10/13/the-evil-dead-remake-trailer-comic-con/

The Evil Dead (and Army of Darkness) are all favorites of mine. Not sure how I feel about a remake...but I will give it a chance.
