Overview
Solid album all around, even the "bad" tracks are good. Music and vocal are excellent through out and the lyrics are well written.
The Tracks
Dark Lady - Good beat, classic hard rock sound, very typical of "heavy" music of the day. Fun little song but nothing exceptional compared to other tracks on this album
In Trance - Excellent track, my favorite Scorpions song now, classic power ballet structure with slow verses and faster heavier chorus. Very catchy, just listening to it puts me in a good mood. Excellent vocals by the lead and backups. Nice solo towards the end thats not overdone.
Life's like a River - A faster power ballet, relatively mundane track, only thing that really stood out was the voice. Even though this was a great era for scorpions songwriting, even the lyrics on this one seem a little bland.
Top of the Bill - excellent song, great beat and rhythm fun to listen too.
Living and Dying - another power ballet, tempo is a little faster, but the vocals seem to drag a bit
Robot Man - Great up tempo song, classic hard rock sound
Evening Wind - Another power ballet, very slow tempo for most of the song, seems like a very sad song to me. Also the longest song on the album at 5:06
Sun in My Hand - Mis speed song, sounds blues inspired to me. Vocalist does some strange things with his voice in this one. Interesting listen.
Longing for Fire - Faster song, lots of harmony in the vocals. Something else else about this song reminds me of Nazereth. Shortest song on the album, clocking in at 2:45. Great guitar solo in the middle of the track.
Night Lights - Another power ballet song, basic beat, nice lead guitar work throughout the song. This track is an instrumental.
Rating
A solid 8 out ten.
