Watching the news yesterday I saw a piece on how one of the 12 Apostles fell into the Indian Ocean yesterday. A natural limestone landmark that is a tourist attraction Down Under, apparently gave way to coastal erosion. So imagine my surprise when I find this posted on Dark Horizons : According to a publicity spokesman for Fox Studios, Joe Everett: "They might not look exactly like the rocks in the movie." Mr. Everett said he could only say the 12 Apostles were this week being filmed for the "Superman Returns" movie. "I can't tell you how they will be used. All the plot line stuff we're not allowed to speak of." About 20 "visual effects unit" crew spent Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday shooting the 12 Apostles from a helicopter. How much do you figure WB paid the Australian government to be able to destroy a national landmark?

This past year, the Old Man in the Mountain, a rock formation in New Hampshire, also collapsed. There was talk about restoring it, but it was decided that nature made it, nature took it away, and we should accept it.

HAHAHAHAHA! We got the news that one of the Apostles had collapsed, and I read the following day that they were being used as part of the Superman film... and I admit I had the silly thought that there had been a dark conspiracy that the WB had been behind it somehow... If we see a crumbling rock tower in the film, I'll fire up my conspiracy theory again.
What annoyed me was people calling for it to be restored. There's kids living in the streets and people want to spend money on rocks? Fortunately the Victorian Tourism Minister came out to say that was never going to happen, and that basically nature both giveth and taketh away. Sensible man.
