What DVDs are you watching?

Sunday I had a Terminator marathon. I picked up the DVDs for Terminator and T2: Judgement Day while on vacation. I hadn't seen either for several years, and had forgotten how much I enjoyed them. T2 is definitely superior as far as special effects and makeup goes, but I think that even T1 was impressive for the year it was made. Although there were times when it was so obvious that you were looking at a rubber Terminator head...

matlock's choice: The Great Escape, an alltime favorite movie of mine which I haven't found the 3 hours to watch yet.

mrs. matlock's choice: Dawson's Creek, 1st season. She's in teen drama withdrawal. Where are the Party of Five's and 90210's of yore?

Of course, neither of us get much of a chance due to:

Princess Maddy's choice: anything with Elmo or the Teletubbies, right now!

(She was sick all weekend which made it tough to tell her that if Daddy had to watch Elmo visit the firehouse one more time he was going to have a nervous breakdown.)

I've been eying a pretty cheap DVD of the Fleisher shorts, on yours have they been restored in any way? I had a few on a tape, but they looked like about 5th generation dupes. Are they in the public domain?

They're in decent shape. Unfortunately they're not restored.

They do look like dupes, but they are not that bad in quality for how old the cartoons actually are.

I got the pack of 2 DVD's for 6 bucks...definately worth the price.

I was so bummed when I picked up the Challenge of the Super-Friends DVD. I thought that it was going to have the entire season on it, but it turned out to only be four episodes frown

But they're so groovy...and there's another one coming out this month. Only 4 or 5 episodes again...but it's camptastic!

"Moulin Rouge," its two-CD set with the most astounding, amazing special features I've ever seen -- such as the un-cut-away main musical numbers.

Soon to be followed by "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," chosen in the store partly because that DVD's special-features list had me laughing hysterically.

They're our entire owned collection so far. (If you don't count a freebie about the 2003 Oldsmobiles from last year's L.A. Auto Show.) My brother just bought a DVD player six weeks ago.

We've rented about a dozen so far, most recently "North by Northwest," and most of them from the local library. And they survive rough library-patron handling better than most VHS tapes do, to my pleasant surprise.

I've got one of these (don't recall which) and actually wound up with a duplicate of the same one. But I think that even though it is not restored it is far better than the video copy.

Right now in our player in the bedroom is The Big Lebowski. One of the best movies, ever.

Prior to that we watched Jackass: The Movie. Worth it for the laughs.

On my PC recently I've watched the first Justice League movie. Not too bad. I just wish they'd release the entire series on DVD since we don't get the Cartoon Network where we are. And I've watched the Resident Evil movie and started watching Mr. Bean: The Whole Bean.

I was deeply in love with Ann and Nacy when I was a teenager. And the concert I saw them in (must have been at least 14 years ago) was one of the best I'd ever seen.

I have just about every album, cassette and cd but I'm itching to buy the new greatest hits compilation, The Essential Heart.

Just finished watching The Goodies DVD. It only has eight episodes and I love the Goodies so much that instead of watching everything in one or two goes like I normally do with DVDs I've made it last about a month.

I've still got a few to watch including 24 Hour Party People, Big Wednesday and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Right now I want Spooks (series 1), Twin Peaks (series 2) and Cruise of the Gods.

Can't wait until the Alive in seattle DvD arrives in UK - on the 28th I think - as they're not touring Europe in the foreseeable future (hang on, I'll go check with Nura....) it's the nearest think I'll get to the new incarnation they've got.

I got this from the library last week. I probably haven't seen that movie in 10 years or so. I'd have sworn I still had the whole script burned in my brain, but I was amazed at all the funny bits that had seeped out. It was like my own personal geek homecoming. I hope you liked it since you laid out the $ for it. I also got "Attack of the Clones" which on balance I really did like, although in somewhat of a lowered-expectations kind of way.

Oddly enough, the first time I watched this was in the history portion of my sophomore Humanities class. The teacher claimed that even though the movie was a comedy, it was actually fairly accurate in some of the feudal representations. Personally I suspect that he was just a Python fan wink

I recently acquired the King of the Hill season 1 DVD set, the Family Guy seasons 1 and 2 DVD set, and the Strangers With Candy season 1 DVD set... I was wavering as to the last two until Lash convinced me, and I'm so glad he did -- they're hi-lar-ious! laugh

What I'm really excited about at the moment is the fact that the Indiana Jones trilogy is finally coming to DVD in November...! smile

I just got "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" from the library last night. I've been really wanting to see it, and it was worth the wait. I have a lot of respect for all those studio players from the 60's, the Funk Brothers and L.A.'s Wrecking Crew chief among them. It's definitely a bittersweet film, considering how little known these men have been despite the fact that their music is part of the fabric of American culture. The fact that so many of them have passed on, many before the film was ever dreamed of, just adds to the sadness. Of course the best thing is just seeing them play. They were still at the top of their game, and personally I could have just about left off the vocals entirely to hear them alone.

My only small quibbles: there's a glossing over the fact that even though these men have been overlooked for what they contributed, for some of them the Motown sessions were a just a gig. A fun gig, but a gig nonetheless. It was only with time that some of them realized what they'd been a part of. I also think a brief reference could've been made to the fact that even during the later 60's, Motown was recording in L.A. with L.A. musicians. There's an impression given by the film that all Motown tracks prior to the permanent move to L.A. were recorded in Hitsville.

Still, it's a great tribute to some little known musical heroes.

I just bought Daredevil for $14.88, so I'm gonna check out the special features.

Collin Farrell... mmmmmmmmm

Scottish accent and extremely fun to look at.

Last DVD in there was "Beautiful Thing", which I am SOOOO glad they finally put on DVD. I LOVE that movie.

We just bought Daredevil. And it has an Evanescence video included. Now I'll be able to see Amy Lee whenever I want.
