Every year at this time, the tabloids are rife with tantalizing psychic predictions for the coming year. I expect our own Natlorian seers can do just as well, so have a go and cast your vote for these common predictions...

Legion World predictions:

- At least two members of Legion World will fall in love with each other.

- At least two members of Legion World (not necessarily the same as those above) will have sex with each other. (Legion Worlders who are already married to and/or dating each other do not count.)

- Someone really famous will join Legion World and post regularly.

- A long-time Legion World poster, who has hitherto remained anonymous, will reveal himself/herself to be someone famous.

- Two members who are not on good terms will patch up their differences and become friends.

- Two members who are friends will have a falling out.

- Two members will discover that they actually know each other in real life.

- A regular poster, long believed to be a man, will reveal herself to be a woman in real life.

- A regular poster, long believed to be a woman, will reveal himself to be a man in real life.

- A regular poster, long believed to be gay, will reveal himself/herself to actually be straight.

Actually, of the items mentioned above, I predict that none will come to pass... laugh

Tecumsa's curse? Is that Tecumsa Shermin? What curse is this Duke? Did he predict to his long time friend, Grant, that a President will die in office every few years?

Chief Tecumsa (a Huron?) cursed all presidents elected in 0-years (every 20 years) would diue in office. Reagan was the 1st to avoid the curse, since its inception. (WH Harrision was the 1st, catching pneumonia at his inaugeration in 1841).

We had a 4.4 on December 24 while I was in Costa Rica, but I was in a car and didn't even notice it.

I predict STU will be more correct than his last line suggests...

I also predict that something really shocking will happen to someone, somwhere at some point this year. Trust me, that prediction will come true and prove my psychic abilities. Just call me Dream Boy why don't you?

Tecumseh’s Curse

After the historical battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, legend has it that the Shawnee Indian Chief, Tecumseh, sent General William Henry Harrison, via released prisoners, a message… a prophecy that history justifiably labeled, 'Tecumseh's Curse':

"'Harrison will not win this year to be the Great Chief. But he may win next year. If he does...He will not finish his term. He will die in his office.' 'No president has ever died in office,' declared a visitor. 'But Harrison will die I tell you. And when he dies you will remember my brother Tecumseh's death. You think that I have lost my powers. I who caused the sun to darken and Red Men to give up firewater. But I tell you Harrison will die. And after him, every Great Chief chosen every 20 years thereafter will die. And when each one dies, let everyone remember the death of our people.'"

In 1840, the sinister presidential death cycle foretold by Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh, began and every sitting President elected in a year ending in zero died in office, except for President Ronald Reagan who luckily survived, but still endured a serious assassination attempt.

Some astrologers say that Reagan only survived because a 20-year Jupiter/Saturn alignment occured that year in an air sign, whereas all other occurances in the "death cycle" have happened in earth signs. Others say that had Reagan's assassination attempt taken place ten years earlier, or ten miles further from a hospital, he surely would have died.

History of The Curse :

Elected in 1840, William Henry Harrison
Died April 6, 1841 of pneumonia.

Elected in 1860, Abraham Lincoln
Assassinated April 14, 1865

Elected in 1880, James Abram Garfield
Assassinated July 2, 1881

Elected in 1900, William McKinley
Assassinated September, 6 1901

Elected in 1920, Warren Gamaliel Harding
Died August 2, 1923 from food poisoning

Elected in 1940, Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Died April 12, 1945, stroke,

Elected in 1960, John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Assassinated November 22, 1963

Elected in 1980, Ronald Wilson Reagan
Assassination attempt on March 30, 1981

Elected in 2000, George W. Bush

Duke, that is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for sharing that. As a history buff, I'm surprised I didn't know, but US history isn't my strongest point! Wow!

Did you know about the whole Lincoln/Kennedy link?

I don't remember all the details, but supposedly Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy, while Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln. Then there's also the bit about the assassins (John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald) each having three names, etc.

There are a lot more coincidences (if they are all in fact true)... does anyone have the whole list...?

Here is the concensus from the 26 Naltorian Seers who chose to peer into 2004. I'll re-open this thread in December to take a look at how we did.

Californians can rest easy. Only 12% of the repsondants foresaw a quake of 8.5 or greater hitting a poplated area. The majority, 88%, believed we'll have to wait until another year to see "the big one."

The progostinators maintained their positive tone, with 73% thinking it unlikely that there will be a major terrorist strike on US soil this year. 27% were busy building bomb shelters.

The odds are seen as being almost 50/50 that a catagory 4, or higher, hurricane will make landfall on the US in the coming season. 58% said batten down the hatches, while 42% will not obay the mandatory evacuation orders.

He's dropping in the polls, but still the darling of the LW seers, with 77% picking Howard Dean as the Democratic Presidential nominee. 23% chose none of the above.

Considering the semi-regular census polls show that 3/4+ of this board to be of left/liberal/Democratic pursuasion, we should not be overly surprised, I think, that 58% did not forsee Bush being reelected. Still, the race is close with 42% towing the GOP line.

And, lucky Mr. Bush, should live long enough to see re-election, at least according to 65% of you. Still, the Secret Service will be looking into the 1/3+, or 35%, of you predicting the President's death in the coming year.

The Oracles are running roughly 2 to 1, or 62% to 38%, that the number of troops in Iraq will be higher by years end than now. Now I just need to find a figure for the current troop count so that, when the time comes, we can compare.

There appears to be a tranistive relationship between the number of troops in Iraq and the US markets. Hey, maybe THAT'S why we went to war?! 62% say the markets will be higher at years end, 38& say lower. Currently, the DOW is at 10,553.66, and the NASDAQ is at 2111.49. Start investing now you RJ Brande wannabees!

Pity the Pope. He'll get called to the boss's office by year's end. So say 73% of you infidels. A mere 27% remain faithful.

Osama ought to join the Legion Espionage Squad, according to the 69% that believe we will remain at large for the remainder of this year. 31% think his days of evading the long arm of Science Police are numbered. Personally, I am not so sure he's not dead already.

73% of you had the good sence to realize the Catwoman movie will be a disaster. 27% of you have no taste whatsoever and deserve whatever you get.

Surprisingly, and despite the rumors, there are doubts among Legion fans as to who the next regular writer will be. Only 58% believe the rumors of Mark Waid are true. 42% are reading the tea leaves and seeing some other name.

Sadly, the Legion does not appear destined to enjoy a second series in 2004. A staggering 92% think it unlikely, 8% still hold out hope.

The odds of a limited series featuring the Legion being released this year are much greater however. 62% see it happening. 38% think we are probably lucky to have one title at all.

Despite the efforts of Roy Disney, 65% think Michael Eisner will remain at the head of the Magical Kingdom throughout the year. 35% are looking for him to join his animators in the unemployment line.

Paul Levitz is god, according to 92% of you. A statistically insignificant 8% foresaw any realignmentof the stars, or the managerial chairs at TimeWarner, that would put Paul out of work. So, despite the rumors, Paul is not dead!

Michael Jackson might as well be thought. As close as the vote was for a guilty verdict, 54% for and 46% against, we can assume his career to be over regardless.

Only 596 members to go. No bigs say 65% of you. Legion World will easily cross into 2005 with over 1000 members. 35% of you have apparently never heard of alternate ID's.

Jumping back into politics for a moment, 73% expect the Democratic VP nominee to be one of those currently campaigning for the top spot. 27% expect some other name to be launched into the obscurity of the Anywhere Machine.

12% of you phoned home, expecting some evidence of extra-terrestrial life to be found in the coming year. Remember, this can be fossilized microbes found the the Martain rovers, it does not need to be little grey men hovering over the capitol. A staggaring, whopping, mind-numbing 88% of you called collect.

I am grateful to the 62% of you who read financial success in my future. Considering I only made a trifle over $19k in 2003, and that the current debt for me and my wife, including our house, is over $106k, I could almost fall out of my chair and do better next year. On the other hand, I am not speaking to the 38% of you who expect things will actually get worse. Oh, GOD, I hope you are wrong.

Quite a few of you, 62%, have no faith wahtsoever in my willpower. That's probably a good bet, considering that I am known to be the stereotypical anti-social, overweight, self-obsessed comic book nerd. 38% think it at least concivable that I just might actually drop some of the tonnage this year. Well, I currently dress out at 285 lbs., so I'll keep you posted.

A blessed 81% see happiness in my future. I am actually quite excited about my new job as a stringer from the local paper, and have great hopes for the future. Even if it only remains a part-time job, I still have big hopes for 2004. 19% of you are just plain mean!

Although optimisim seemed to prevail in most of the predictions, there appeared no corrolationon the cummulitive effect. 81% expect the world will not be more peaceful by year's end. Only 19% of you saw a Legion-like brighter future. Considering this is the exact opposite of the prediction for my personal happiness, I wonder if the world might be better off if I remained miserable?

And 23% of you offered your own predictions, which was more than I expected. 77% saw no future I guess....

See you in roughly 350 days for the final results!

Ah, happy 2005 to all. Let's bump up this thread and see how we all did!

1. An earthquake of 8.5+ will hit California in 2004. YES 12% NO 88%

CORRECT: There was no "big one" in Cali

2. There will be a major terrorist strike on US soil. YES 27% NO 73%

CORRECT: Thankfully, no attacks, just lots and lots of tape recorded messages.

3. A catagory 4 hurricane will make US landfall. YES 58% NO 42%

CORRECT: Not just 1, but 3, plus another strong cat3, all hitting Florida.

4. Howard Dean will be the Dems nomanee. YES 77% NO 23%

WRONG: Yeeeee-haaaaa Howie burned out early.

5. Bush will be re-elected. YES 42% NO 58%

WRONG: It was a second term for W.

6. Bush will die in office. YES 35% NO 65%

CORRECT: Still alive and mangling the King's English.

7. The number of US troops in Iraq will be higher by years end. YES 62% NO 38%

CORRECT: I'm not able to find an exact number, but we know it is clearly more as we ramp up for the Iraqi elections.

8. US markets will close the year up. YES 62% NO 38%

CORRECT: Again, dontt have exact numbers, but I did see a report that said DOW was up 3% for the year.

9. The Pope will die YES 73% NO 27%

WRONG: Like Mr. Burns, JPII just can not die.

10. bin Laden will be killed or captured. YES 31% NO 69%

CORRECT: Assuming he really is still alive, we ain't proven it.

11. The Catwoman movie will suck YES 73% NO 27%

CORRECT: Clearly

12. Wiad will be the regular Legion scribe YES 58% NO 42%

CORRECT: And a very good thing it is, too!

13. The Legion will get a second regular series. YES 8% NO 92%

CORRECT: Just as well. But now, now would be a god time to get that second series.

14. A Legion limited series will be released. YES 62% NO 38%

CORRECT: I'll count the Titans/Legion special and give this one.

15. Michael Eisner will be out at Disney YES 35% NO 65%

WRONG: He's still there, but his resignation has been accepted, so I count him out.

16. Levitz will still be head of DC. YES 92% NO 8%

CORRECT: See Pope.

17. Michael Jackson will be found guilty. YES 54% NO 46%

WRONG: I only count it wrong because the trial has not been held yet, and a good prognosticator would have known that.

18. Legion World will have over 1,000 members YES 65% NO 35%

WRONG: We're currently at, IIRC, 768

19. The Democratic VP will come from among those running from the front spot. YES 73% NO 27%

CORRECT: Edwards got the nod.

20. Evidence of extra-terrestrial life will be discovered. YES 12% NO 88%

CORRECT: But we've found more evidence of water on Mars

21. Portfolio Boy will be better off financially. YES 62% NO 38%

CORRECT: It's a tough call. I am actually making less than I used too, but the wife and I have paid off more of out debt, so I'll toss this provisionally in the yes column.

22. Portfolio Boy will be thinner. YES 38% NO 62%

WRONG: 1/1/04 I was 285 lbs, today I am 276. Not much thinner I grant you, but we take whatever we can get.

23. Portfolio Boy will be happier. YES 81% NO 19%

CORRECT: Considering that I am now working full-time as a reporter and cartoonist at the newspaper, a dream come true, I'd say most definitly happier.

24. The world will be more at peace. YES 19% NO 81%

CORRECT: It's a subjective call, I grant you, but I'm certainly not feeling more secure.
