Hey everybody,

As some of you already know, I've been working on my doctorate these past few years, and I am in the midst of data collection for my dissertation. I'm hoping that some of you might be able to help me out. A description of my study follows:

“As a participant, you will be asked to complete eight paper-and-pencil questionnaires. You will also be asked to answer some questions about your personal background. The results of the study will add to our knowledge about body image and provide information that can assist with the treatment of related mental health disorders.

All of your answers will be held in confidence. None of your personal responses will be released to anyone and you may withdraw from the project at any time. It will take about 30 minutes to complete the questionnaires. As a result of your participation, you will be entered into a lottery to win one of two $100 gift certificates to Simon shopping malls. Ten participants will also be randomly chosen to win a $5 gift card to Starbucks.”

Participants must be male between the ages of 18 – 29. If any members of the LMBP are interested in participating, please contact me with your mailing address, and I will mail you a packet with return postage prepaid.

Thanks
SL

Well since I'm outside the age range, I hope I can feel free to ask a question.

The survey and results would be fun, but doesn't a survey like this require an "unbiased" sampling and can that be accomplished by targeting a group with common trait such as "comic fan"?

Is the study directly targeting male comic readers or males in general?

Sounds interesting. Good luck!

Sharky, just emailed you!

As I said in the email: as someone who is both your online bud and who hopes to one day write my own dissertation, I find this very interesting.

I hope I can help!

can't really say too much more about the study than I already posted ... but suffice it to say my sponsor and I considered your concerns before I posted looking for "recruits" ... thanks for your support ...

Hey Sharky,

Glad to see another Hofstra Legion fan here. I've been teaching English at Hofstra for the past 10 years. Alas, I'm 34 years old, so I can't help you out with your research. Best of fortune though!

Keith

I detect AGE DISCRIMINATION!

Certainly we pot-bellied males over 30 have a thing or two to say about body image and mental health!

But seriously, best of luck, Sharky.
